View Full Version : Internet TV viewing
TimOhara123 10-24-2011, 08:58 AM Anyone watch shows only via the internet?
I have been watching several the last few months including the Hitchhiker, and Dallas amongst other along with Dennis the Menace.
Also I discovered a site that has alot of older show, and i have been watching others like the Great Gildersleave and Pete and Glayds on Youtube.
Yeah, I've watched some episodes of Murphy Brown on Youtube which isn't currently on tv in my area. And I sometimes watch The Addams Family on hulu. It's nice to have other options for viewing tv shows.
steevo 10-24-2011, 05:04 PM Yes, I watch a lot of current shows on either Hulu or a few other sites with episodes of shows that are not on Hulu.
TimOhara123 10-26-2011, 09:23 AM I bought a 2nd roku now and have access to 100's if not 1000's of series and movies along with access to Amazon on demand, Hulu, and Netflix. Basically you just need a roku a computer and a wireless router to enjoy tons of stuff on internet tv.
I'm going to put the Sat on hiatus for 6 months and will hopefully make that perminent next spring
UMFaninMD 10-26-2011, 07:39 PM The majority of my TV viewing is online. I like shows that are not readily accessible, especially the old horror anthology series like Thriller, Hammer House of Horror, Darkroom, etc. and many are available at YouTube to watch.

I only watch the OFFICE on the internet because the episode is longer on hulu.com

I think youtube is just good for Memorable TV Moments where you can see lots and lots of clips.
LUNCH 11-05-2011, 04:17 PM I don't watch tv on or via the internet because I do not like viewing programs on a computer.Maybe I'm old fashioned but I just still want to turn on the television and have something good to watch. That Roku thing though sounds a little interesting if you can view good programs on the tv set.
TimOhara123 11-06-2011, 04:03 PM Lunch you don't need to view it just on the computer, you can get a streaming device and watch it thru your TV nowadays

ANd how does someone set that up if they have a HD Flat screen?
tiredmike59 11-06-2011, 04:42 PM What's a ROKU? How do they hook up and how much do they cost ?
TimOhara123 11-07-2011, 01:21 AM Roku is a streaming device that streams netflix, Hulu, Amazon video and many others.
Price depends on which one you get, they have standard definition rokus for as low as 50 bucks and HD ones for around 100 bucks.
Also there are private channels that you can load that give you access to 1000's of shows and movies.

I agree. I have discovered all the old soaps on youtube, including ones from the 50's and 60's. I've also seen a lot of the old game shows like Concentration, Match Game, 25,000 Pyramid game, and Jeopardy. I wish they would put this stuff on a best of DVD release.
Coffeecup 11-09-2011, 10:09 AM If I decide on this, I will never get out of my chair. Many shows you mentioned I would like to see.
comedyfreak 11-10-2011, 06:57 AM The day I discovered those shows I stayed up all day to the evening viewing them after working the graveyard shift. No sleep that day, lol.
LUNCH 11-15-2011, 04:07 PM Lunch you don't need to view it just on the computer, you can get a streaming device and watch it thru your TV nowadays
Since you can watch all these good programs on a television set,and I'm guessing un-edited and commercial free in alot of cases I'm surprised these streaming devices are not more popular.Or maybe they are.Anyhow they do sound like an attractive option.
waichingliu81 11-15-2011, 09:47 PM i watch all my favourite sitcoms, cartoons on you tube when the episodes are posted. especially as i don't watch TV nowadays.
avaJasper 11-21-2011, 05:10 AM That's So Raven is an American cable television teen sitcom/fantasy series.I've watched some episodes of "that's so Raven" on Youtube.now i can see it on Disney channel. it's so fantastic!
ekkostar 11-22-2011, 12:49 AM I've watched obscurities that various users have uploaded to YouTube. I occasionally use Hulu or I watch live TV streams over at Livestream and Justin.tv.
Schmoopie 11-22-2011, 07:21 AM I find it easier to watch stuff on television instead just because I can sit more comfortably than on a computer chair, but I have watched shows via the Internet before.
lizziandme 12-03-2011, 02:13 AM I personally dislike watching tv on my computer, I don't find it very comfortable and don't find the small size inviting. But I love streaming tv shows on my tv - and roku is a great way to do it - you just need to connect your roku to your tv and connect to the internet. If you have Netflix you can connect your account to roku and watch movies/tv shows thru their streaming section. Another way is to connect via xbox 360 or other gaming consoles. The basic Roku costs about $60 and they ship immediately. I got mine in a couple days after ordering it. Now I find myself watching more tv via roku than cable. The only drawback is that you might never leave your house, lol!
CommonTater 12-03-2011, 10:03 AM Watching TV on the net would be a dream come true for me but we live out in the sticks. We are not able to get anything that isn 't VERY limited and if we run over...      We had HughesNet for years, can tell you horror stores about that! Now I use my cell phone to connect.
The downside of country life, no DSL, no cable and not able to pick up channels with an antenna.:(
born2late 06-01-2013, 01:52 AM There's a site called TubTub.com that's loaded with old movies & tv shows to choose from. They're like individual tv stations. Plays well in windows media player.
Gertie1999 06-01-2013, 08:31 AM I mainly watch my shows on Netflix and or YouTube. Sometimes I will watch YB shows or movies on DVD though.

Oh now I know why I can't watch it on my computer! I have a Chromebook and found the site earlier and tried to watch it but couldn't. It says it can work on Android though so I might try that.
I watch nearly everything online because of a couple of reasons:
Today's shows in general are not very good and a lot of my favourite old series like "Leave It To Beaver", "Andy Griffith", "The Brady Bunch", "The Monkees", etc. I can't find anywhere on TV so I get frustrated as hell.
Instead I watch stuff on YouTube and other FREE sites where I can see full episodes of whatever classic series I want. If you are really serious about watching great old classics on the net, I've written about this in the past and you can check out my posts here:

Yong Fang 06-01-2013, 10:24 PM I live in China so by watching shows online is the way I watch TV here. I used to buy DVD's back in the 00's, but they are not as popular anymore because everything is online. There is not much respect for copyright here. I also watch shows a day ahead of time. Mike and Molly is on Tuesdays, Modern Family was Thursday and The Office was Fridays.
There are obstacles in my way.
1.) I do not understand this, but no media outlet will allow streaming outside the United States. No Hulu, no viewings from the network website. Nope. "Cannot Be Streamed Outside the United States", which of course makes me very:mad:
2.) You Tube is blocked inside China. There are proxies, VPN's and whatnot, but it has not been that important to me to get those services, which are not that relaiable and a pain. (No Facebook in China, which I applaud our glorious and wise Beijing leaders for saving the people from mental mush.)
Because of this crap:mad:  I cannot access any of these vintage shows recently offered for free, because they are YouTube or Hulu:( .

So, I use a (non-Chinese) website with the suffix .eu on the website which denotes it comes from Europe. I have to choose a player to watch the content, Sockshare, Novamov, Videoweed or a hundred different players and watch the show. No commercials.
One bad thing is that one has to "wade" through several layers of popups, and prompts that make the novice user press which opens more pop ups and windows. It is a pain in the year end, but they are doing a valuable service to me. There are also various Chinese websites with content, but seeingly limited to The Big Bang Theory and Friends.)
OH Nuts! 06-01-2013, 10:40 PM This is an interesting thread and sorry I didn't see it sooner. I'd say I watch about 20% of TV shows on the Internet (via You Tube), 50% on store bought DVD sets, and 30% from TV - practically all from Antenna TV Channel.
