View Full Version : Songs from the mid 1960's British Invasion you DIDN'T like?
rezny717 10-23-2011, 01:31 PM Back in the mid 1960's British Invasion,a time when British acts took over music charts,,shoving most American artists aside (Most, not all, British Invasion songs were pretty good),but were there some songs by British Invasion acts you DIDN'T care for?

Every Time I think of this song, all I can think of is how I performed it in my own church in the choir, something a-la what Cartman did when he changed songs from "Baby" to "Jesus".
Now for something obscure, listen to this....

I don't mind it, but my mom absolutely hates Winchester Cathedral.

Now here's a lame Joe Islam (Cat Stevens) Song, when he made his debut. (I like this song too, but it's weak compared to his works in the 70's).

UMFaninMD 10-25-2011, 07:05 PM I'm Henry the VIII I am - Herman's Hermits

Lola - The Kinks (It's not because of what the song is about, it's just not pleasant sounding to me, music and melody wise.)

rezny717 10-26-2011, 06:31 PM As for me:I think Herman's Hermits remade version of "Silhouettes" CANNOT hold a candle to the much, much better 1957 original version of "Silhouettes"by the Rays. And as far as Herman's Herrmits' version of "Wonderful World",it's okay, but it isn't as great as the late Sam Cooke's original 1960 version of "Wonderful World",which is,to me,a classic.I also do not like the Dave Clark Five's remade veresion of Chris Kenner's lively 1962 song "I Like It Like That",or their remake of the late Marv Johnson's 1959 hit
You Got What It Takes",or their remake of the Contours' 1962 classic "Do You Love Me?"

UMFaninMD 10-27-2011, 06:39 PM I love Nights in White Satin. I didn't care for their other faster songs, like Ride My Seesaw and Rock & Roll Band. I did like their "comeback" song from 1986, In Your Wildest Dreams.
Penny Lane 10-29-2011, 11:26 AM Off hand I can't think of a British song that I hated back then.I was there (age14) when it all started. I can't describe the excitement and the feeling that the new music brought. Before that there was nothing IMO that was even close to be exciting! It was mostly girl groups and Bobby Vinton.Yuck!!!!!!!!!!puke:

I like the British invasion a whole bunch, but there was a lot of great music in the early sixties
The Beach Boys
Gary US Bond
Roy Orbison
Del Shannon
James Brown
Jackie Wilson
and Penny I believe you are from the Detroit area, right in your city in the early 1960's there was something called Motown that was making some kick ass records.
MickeyMac 10-29-2011, 06:39 PM Also Bob Dylan and the great Sam Cooke was on the scene pre Beatles.

Actually I live 50 miles north of Detroit(Flint area). And I didn't mean there wasn't any good music before The Beatles. But from a a 14 year old girl's point of view there was nothing to be excited about then! I was looking for "cute" and there was nothing cute until the Fab 4!:faint: :wave:

More than likely...they were either overplayed or those people like Justin Beiber. (I got blocked by a YouTube user for making a Justin Beiber comment cause 1 person disliked a song...what nerve)!
70s show watcher 10-31-2011, 12:59 AM I hate that damn song too!!!i dont like it ether
