I don't mean for this to be disrespectful to anybody in the cast, but if a castmember had to be killed off (Besides Yemana) who would you pick and why?
Retro4Life 10-19-2011, 10:53 PM At the risk of angering Monika, I would have picked Chano. Not because I didn't like him, but since he was going off anyway, I think it would have been interesting to make his departure mean something, rather than just have him disappear at the beginning of the third season. This is all predicated on the notion that Sierra would have been leaving anyway, btw.
catlover79 10-20-2011, 12:46 AM Them's fightin' words, Retro!! :smash: Just kidding. I see what you mean, but if I had to pick, it would be Wojo - mainly because I found him extremely annoying and hypocriticial, especially in the early years. He would personally insult hookers and berate them for not living up to his lofty "moral" standards. Yet this same guy was constantly sleeping around, and one of his bedmates was his colleague Janice Wentworth.
Marvo301 10-20-2011, 01:19 AM There is only one character on the show that I never really liked and that's Lt. Scanlon. So he's the one I'd probably kill off.

I never knew you felt that way about Wojo Monika? LOL

I hate the early Wojo, for the same reasons you listed. He was a hypocritical, misogynist jerk. I warmed to him as time went on and as he changed, though.
As far as Scanlon goes, Marv, I don't think his death would have had much emotional impact, since nobody on the show (or in the audience!) would have missed him! :)

You're right! Nobody would miss Scanlon! I just figured he and Luger serve a lot of the same purpose on the show so he would be a good choice to get rid of. That and I never liked the guy!!
Lt. Scanlon would be my first choice too. Second choice would be a toss up between Inspector Luger & Levitt.
jehobden 10-20-2011, 07:00 PM I assume by "cast member" you mean character and not actor. My least favorite character was the creepy lawyer, played by Alex Henteloff, who sued Harris for using him as a character in his novel and won.
I love how Barney Miller addressed Jack Soo's death. They as actors remembered Jack and what he had done on the show. There wasn't an episode where Nick Yemana was killed off and the characters had to remember Nick with sadness.

That's EXACTLY what I meant. I haven't seen nearly enough of the later years to change my mind about Wojo (YET - since they all come out on DVD next week, yay!!!). But the way he treated the hookers, gay people, etc. was inexcusable. Barney would treat them like human beings and the other guys didn't really seem to mind/care that much either way. Like I said, Wojo had no compunction about jumping into bed with women and justifying it by saying at least he wasn't paying for it.
Personally, if I'd been Barney I would've given Wojo much more than a verbal warning for the way he talked down to the hookers ("The Courtesans", from Season 1). I mean, he called Linda (Nancy Dussault) a tramp in front of everyone, including Barney. He got off the hook way too easily, but at least Linda had the last laugh when all was said and done. :D
Getting back to Chano - I am glad that he wasn't killed off because poor Gregory Sierra was killed off in way too many episodics and movies to count!!   I wish he'd come back at least once to give Chano a proper farewell, but oh well.
SueWalsh 11-02-2011, 11:39 PM Maybe Dorsey. He annoyed the hell out of me. Monika, Wojo really grew over the years and became a very sweet and sensitive guy. As far as the first season they were all sterotypes- Harris was the stereotypical jive talking 70's black man, Wojo was the stereotypical dumb jock, Fish the grumpy old man, etc.
In fact Wojo and Harris in the final season were almost entirely different characters than they were in the first. Even Harris said Wojo was "so much improved!" LOL
catlover79 11-03-2011, 05:03 PM I haven't seen the "Dorsey" episode yet, but I did see "Child Stealers" - in that one, Wojo really makes an effort to be nice to Marty and Mr. Driscoll. He even bonds a bit with Mr. Driscoll while talking about the latter's son.
