Anybody ever have to attend summer school ? I always called it bummer school because that's what it felt like wasting good summer days in a classroom. I remember my first day when I walked in and saw everyone,I thought, " These aren't students, they're inmates ". I knew every one of them and they were all thieves, some were the biggest thieves in school. This one guy and his brother got busted once and the cops found about 200 CB radios in their basement. This other guy was always trying to sell me a stolen dirt bike. The teacher was a young guy, probably his first teaching job. I noticed, and I am sure every other kid did, right before the teacher sat down at his desk,he took out his wallet and put it in the top drawer,(probably hurt his butt sitting on it. I thought, " He too is going to learn something in this class " . It didn't take long, the next day when we came back in from our 15 minute break he was screaming about his missing wallet. After we all denied taking it, he called the cops and we all got frisked and patted down. They found a knife and some drug paraphernalia but no wallet. I knew they would'nt, That wallet left with us on that 15 minute break but didn't come back, probably ditched in the bushes out front. That teacher was irritable all summer and I didn't blame him. I ended up getting my GED instead.

LOL on the inmate comment. Ha ha ha! No, i was never in Summer school amazingly. i was pretty much a 2.0 student, and got miserable grades. i think many teachers felt sorry for me, so they gave me C's when i really probably deserved D's. Math was the worse subject for me. i literally would just write in random numbers, cause i had no idea what i was doing, and the teachers never took the time to explain it to me. One time i got a 5% on a math test. lol Wish i were joking, but i'm not. i probably should have been in Summer school, but i don't think the teachers liked me much, and didn't want to deal with me for an extra three months.
One funny thing i use to think about doing was walking past the school during the Summer while all the Summer school kids were out on break smoking or whatever. i wanted to walk by, and look like i was having as much fun as possible, since five minutes later, they had to go in and study for the next few hours, while i got to ride my bike in the beautiful 90 degree weather. Ha ha ha ha. Sounds cruel i know, but most of them were the popular kids who hated me, because i was a rebel, and a great athlete. They wanted me on their side, but i purposely befriended the outcasts and nerds instead by protest, because most of the jocks and popular kids were punks!! so i'm sure you can understand my desire to rub it in.

I had to attend classes during the summer, but it was never "summer school" for being left back or failing a class.
In my state, NY, we have the Regents Exams which all high school students have to pass in order to graduate.
Math and Science were never my strongest subjects and I failed the Algebra and Biology Regents exams in my freshman year. The tests were being offered again during the summer with optional review courses up to the time of the test.
I had to take the 2 month review courses under my parents' orders. It worked because I passed both of them after that.

The only class I ever flunked was latin. They said it was mandatory that I take a foreign language so I could get a credit for english. Everyone conned me into latin, saying it was easy. The teacher was an old biddy (antiquus femina) she was blind as a bat and wore shoes with loud sounding heels when she walked. That made it easy for me to cheat my butt off in that class,I had crib notes everywhere, my problem was not knowing words completely changed when using them in a sentence. It didn't really bother me that I flunked latin,I knew nothing about the language, what bothered me was that I cheated and still flunked. I thought I was a better cheater than that. I was told it was mandatory that I take a foreign language, but people are coming to this country and getting jobs, drivers licenses and benefits and not even bothering to learn english. WTF !
