View Full Version : I suck with titles, but here's a story...
dovesong 01-14-2002, 01:08 PM :wave: Hello again, Chickies. You guys were so great to read my last story under Okay here goes...., and said such great things, that I'd thought I'd try again. Let me know what you think of this start....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(This follows the episode Spin Dry, and Jinny's return from Rehab. It is the Monday following her first week, after JInny an dMagda cracked the case of Precious Doe and busted the Honduran drug lords (whatever) for her parents' and her murder. Jinny walks into the Division glumly and sits down.)
Magda: Boy, you are in a bad mood.
Jinny: (looks up, displeased) Thank you for noticing.
Magda: (throws hands up) Okay, I get the point.
Nate: (walks in, paper under his arm. Throws paper on desk) Good morning all.
(CD, Magda, and Jinny just look at him, saying nothing.)
CD: Nate. this is Inspector Exstead, Magda's partner. This is Nate, my new partner.
Nate: (shaking hands) Hi. Nice to meet you.
Jinny: Pleasure. And it's Jinny.
Nate: So you're Magda's new partner, huh? Here I just thought Magda worked alone cause she could handle herself better than the rest of us.
Magda: (giving Nate a hard stare, but smiling) Jinny's not my new parnter. She's my partner. She's been (pause) on a vacation, of sorts.
Jinny: Yeah, (laughs sarcastically, turns away, hand to face) I would call where I've been the vacation spot of the decade.
(Nate looks to CD curiously. CD shakes her head and m ouths the word, 'later.' Captain Kaitlyn McCafferty walks out of her office, case files in her hand.)
Kate: Okay, here we go. Jinny, Magda, there's a body on a boat down at the dock. Medical Examiner is there waiting for you.
Jinny: (taking the file) Any leads?
Kate: (shakes her head) Owner's were getting read to shove off for a day of fun in the sun. That's all I got. Check it out, let me know. (Jinny and Magda walk out) CD, Nate, 321 Nutter Street. Looks to be a suicide; note and everything. Parent refuse to believe it. Wants it investigated. Says that she and her boyfriend had a pretty good fight in front of the high school the other day; they think maybe he killed her. Won't hurt to question him, maybe scare him a little. (CD and Nate both reach for the file. Nate turns loose, smiling at CD. Kate just looks at them, and turns back to her office.)
(Jinny and Magda are in the car on their way to the crime scene. Both have been quiet.)
Magda: Any luck finding a new sponsor?
Jinny: Um, yeah. I called Dusty back. he's agreed to carry me. Still thinks I'm a loser though, but...
Magda: (interrupts) And you're gonna let him talk to you like that? What gives him the right to...
Jinny: I don't know, Mag. Maybe, maybe he sees something in me that I can't see. He's probably right, Magda. I think about it constantly. I mean, how many bars have we passed driving down here? Do you know how many? Do you?
Magda: No, but, Jin...
Jinny: Seven. (pauses, points out the window) Eight. I can't go anywhere or do anything without passing it up. I can't even go into a convenience store and buya soda or water, withough passing up the alcohol. It's everywhere, Mag. It's proving to be stronger than I am. I just don't know if I can fight this for the rest of my life. So, yes. He has every right to call me a loser.
Magda: Well, then, you're just going to have to prove him wrong.
Jinny: That's easy for you to say. (Jinny parks the car and opens her door) Come on. Let's get this over with.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, that's it for now, gotta get the young'un off to school and get ready to face the real world and work.
sue z q 01-14-2002, 03:18 PM Oooooooo, great start! You write so well, can't wait for more! :)

Esperanza 01-14-2002, 05:46 PM This is so great so far!!! You're an awesome writer and I can't wait to read more!!!
dovesong 01-15-2002, 02:30 AM Well, here's the second part of my story. This one will probably go a lot slower, because I have less written on it than I did the first story. I'm still not completely certain where this fic is going. I have an interesting proposition to post for you later; keep looking for it in an upcoming post. Hope you enjoy.............
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Jinny and Magda walk to the dock and show their badges to the officers standing outside the yellow tape. They log Jinny & Magda’s names into their record books and allow them to pass. Jinny walks up to the boat, and finds the Medical Examiner bent over the body in question. )
Jinny: What’s up doc?
ME: Hey, Jinny. It’s good to see you again. I was on vacation last week. I heard I’d missed you. How’s it going? I missed you.
Jinny: Thanks, Stephen. It’s going all right. What have you got for us?
Stephen: Well. Female, Jane Doe; 18-22 years of age; clothes disheveled, I’d say she was raped, we’ll test for semen at the office. There are several bruises along the upper body, probably from a struggle with the assailant. Her throat was cut and there are several stab wounds to the trunk of the body, which I‘m sure we‘ll find hit several vital organs. Prompt medical attention could probably have saved her life. I’d say she bled to death. Time of death, approximately 10 hours ago, which would put time of death at about midnight, incidents leading up to this, a couple hours prior; between seven and nine. No personal affects; no ID. Owners of the boat are inside, along with the Super.
Magda: (noticing that Jinny is again struggling with the sight of death) Great, thanks. Let us know the results of the tests.
(Jinny and Magda walk away, toward the office Stephen had indicated. They knock and walk in.)
Magda: Hi. I’m Inspector Ramirez, this is Inspector Exstead (show badges), who owns that boat? (A man stands up, the woman beside him is in tears)
Man: My wife and I own that boat. My name is James Warner. This is my wife Alexis.
Magda: Do you know that girl out there?
JW: No. I’ve never seen her before.
Magda: How long has your boat been docked here, Mr. Warner?
JW: We’ve docked our boat here now for three years.
Magda: You the only ones that use your boat? Do you loan it to others?
JW: We have a few friends that use it occasionally. They always call and ask first, because we use it quite often. Nobody has asked for it for I’d say a month or so.
Magda: When was the last time you used it?
JW: Last weekend. My daughter wanted to have her birthday party under the bridge.
Magda: How old was you’re daughter? Could this be one of her friends?
AW: No, (shaking her head) Jennifer is only 13.
Jinny: Your friends, we’ll need their names. We’ll need to question them, as well. Do they have keys to the boat? Or do they have to pick up a key from you first?
JW: We have one friend who has his own key. He likes to entertain his lady friends with moonlight boat rides. But he always calls us first. He wouldn’t do anything like this, I’m sure of it.
Jinny: Yeah, well, we’ll need his name. We’ll also need to know your whereabouts for last night.
JW: What? You can’t be serious. There’s a dead body on my boat, I did it, and then I’d bring my wife down here so she could see it? (wife cries harder) This is absurd! I want your name again.
Jinny: It’s Exstead. E-X-S-T-E-A-D and nobody’s making accusations. I’ve been in this business for nine years, it wouldn’t be the sickest thing I’ve seen. All grounds have to be covered. You would appreciate that if that were your wife, or sister, or daughter laying out there.
JW: (sighs, calming down) You’re right. I’m sorry. My wife and I had reservation at the (any local, fancy restaurant).
Magda: What time were your reservations? And what time did you leave?
JW: Our reservations were for eight. I had meetings yesterday at the office until then. We met and ate. We probably left at about nine thirty or ten. Went to the bar on the corner of Eastbrook and Wellington, we met some friends there, and had a few drinks.
Jinny: I’m assuming your office can vouch for the meetings? What time did you leave the bar?
JW: Yes, they can. I work at Campbell and Associates, it’s an accounting firm. We were at the bar until probably one this morning. Went home, went to bed. Got up and came here.
(Jinny nods. She reviews the notes that she had taken in her black book. She hands Mr. Warner a pen and a piece of paper she picked up off of the desk in the office.)
Jinny: I need those names now.
JW: (nods, accepting the paper. Writes down some names and numbers, hands the paper back)
Jinny: Thank you. You’re free to go now. You’ll need to come to the station within the next 48 hours to make a formal statement. I apologize for any inconveniences. Here’s my card if you think of anything else. We’ll be in touch. (Jinny turns to look at the last gentleman in the room) You the Super?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Merry Christmas to all and goodnight too.

dovesong 01-16-2002, 09:32 AM Well, there is really life out there, what'da'ya'know. Well, here's a little more of my story.....You guys are so great and say such great things, a person could get a big head......
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(CD and Nate arrive at the scene of the crime they are investigating. They knock on the door of a small house and are let in by a police officer. The officer leads them into the living room where a man and woman sit on the couch crying. They show their badges and make introductions, then excuse themselves to view the crime scene. The body had been removed, so CD and Nate explored the victim’s room. They both put on gloves. CD picked up the note that had been written on a piece of paper. She handed it to Nate to inspect. He looks at it and places it in a bag that is being held open by the officer who led them to the room.)
CD: So, what do you think?
Nate: (looks at the paper) I’m not an expert on handwriting.
(CD picks up a diary off of the small desk in the room, it’s locked. CD looks around and finds a small jewelry box on the night stand by the bed. She opens the jewelry box and lifts the bottom out of it. She hold up the key and winks at Nate, who is standing in awe.)
Nate: (smiling) I’m impressed.
CD: (returns his smile) So you should be.
(CD opens the diary and leafs through a couple of pages. She shakes her head. Holds the book open to a page for Nate to look at. He looks at it, but looks at CD questioningly.)
CD: The suicide not was written hurriedly, but then, I think this was too, and it is much different. It’s a possibility that they could have been written by different people.
(CD and Nate continue to look around the room. CD picks up a picture of a girl and a boy sitting on a porch swing, arm in arm, smiling. She again hands it to the officer to place in another bag, and continues around the room. Nate calls for CD to join him by the bed. When she is there, he picks up a glass that was there. He tilts the glass so that CD can see into it. Settled in the bottom of the glass is a white substance.)
Nate: Guesses?
CD: (shrugs) Could be anything.
Nate: Could be. Now tell me you honestly believe that. (CD just smiles at him)
(CD motions for the officer to take this item, too. They walk around the room and collect a few other things of interest and return to the living room to question the parents.)
CD: Mr. and Mrs. ...(pauses, she never learned their names)
Man: Hopkins. I’m Samuel, this is my wife, Sarah.
CD: And you’re the parents of, ...what was her name again?
Sam: Ashleigh. (pausing, looking distant) Ashleigh Machele. (tears begin to stream down his face)
CD: (takes a deep breath) And you’re certain, sir, that your daughter wouldn’t kill herself. Can you explain why you feel this way?
Sam: No. Ashleigh would never kill herself. She had a good life. She was popular at school, she was head cheerleader. She made straight A’s and was a member of the honor society. She had a scholarship to Harvard Medical School. She went to church regularly and helped out at the homeless shelter when she could. She had a heart of gold. Every time she came back from the shelter, she’d sit in her room and cry. No. Some one else did this to her. Probably that no count boyfriend of hers. He was always hanging around. Wanting to know where she was and when she was coming home. She couldn’t go anywhere, even with us without him knowing about it. I went to pick her up one day last week from school and she was outside waiting for me. I pulled up and there they were, standing in the middle of the parking lot, screaming at each other. She turned to leave and he grabbed her arm. I got out of the car and told him that he wouldn‘t treat my daughter like that, and he just cussed me and walked of. He did this to her. I know it.
CD: What’s this boyfriend’s name?
Sam: Jeffrey. Jeffrey Kingsley. Star football player. Grade A number one jerk, if you ask me.
Nate: Did Ashleigh tell you what they were fighting about?
Sam: She said that they were fighting about the Spring dance. She was asked to work at the shelter that Saturday and he was mad because she wouldn’t cancel and go to the dance with him. She mentors for several smaller children at the shelter. She takes them to the park, or helps them with their homework or takes them for ice cream, or just listens to them talk about their problems. She loved those little girls, and they loved her. God, they’re going to be so heart-broken when they find out. (Mrs. Hopkins had been sitting quietly, almost in a daze until this point. She broke down, sobbing uncontrollably now)
CD: I’m truly sorry for your loss. I just have a couple of quick questions for you, and we’ll leave. This diary was in your daughter’s room, I can assume it belongs to her, not one of her friends, right?
Sarah: Yes, (nodding, through her sobs) I bought it for her last Christmas.
CD: May we take it? We’d like to ask a psychologist to go through it and we’d also like to use it to compare Ashleigh’s handwriting with the suicide note’s. We’ll return it. Also, is this Jeffrey in the picture with Ashleigh?
Sam: Yes, you can take anything you want, and yes, that is Jeffrey.
CD: Great. we’ll go now. Thank you for your time. If you can think of anything else that you think might be helpful, call us. (getting up to leave) We’ll be in touch.
(Jinny closes the door behind the Warner’s as they leave and then turns back to the dock supervisor. He’s sitting at his desk. Jinny sits on his desk and stares at him for a few minutes.)
Super: Yes, I’m the owner of this dock. My name is Frank Sitz.
Magda: How long you owned this place?
Sitz: Two years. I inherited it from my dad when he died.
Magda: Is there someone here all the time? I mean, a security guard or something? Or do people just come and go as they please, or what?
Sitz: I do staff a couple of security guards, for nights and weekends and for days that I take off.
Magda: Mr. Sitz, how do you run this business? Do you keep a record of who comes in a takes a boat out?
Sitz: Yes. We ask that they sign a sheet each time they come in and take their boats out of dock. This way, there’s a record of it. We get to know people, like the Warner’s, who come in frequently and we don’t always make them sign for their own property. They do have to provide us with a list of persons who can take their property out of dock and we follow that closely. We’re responsible for those boats out there. If one is stolen, then it’s my butt on the line.
Jinny: So there should be a record of someone being on that boat last night?
Sitz: (gets up and gets a book from behind him) There should be a record of someone being on that boat. Unless it was Mr. Warner, of course. Like I said, we get to know the owners and they don’t always fool with the paperwork.
Jinny: What about his friend? (Jinny looks at the paper Warner provided her) This Brian Webb? He always sign that book? Or was he on friendly terms with you as well?
Sitz: If they don’t personally own the boat, it doesn’t matter how well we know them, they HAVE to sign the books. (opens the book to the last used page) There are no signatures for this boat, since last weekend and that was Mr. Warner’s signature. and Mr. Webb’s last signature was (turns back a few pages, shows Jinny the book) three weeks ago, on a Friday night.
Jinny: Thank you. You’ll have to come to the station within the next 48 hours to make an official statement, as well. We’ll be in touch.
(Jinny and Magda return to the car and Jinny sits there for sometime staring back down toward the dock at the flurry of activity there. The body was now being removed from the boat. Magda watched Jinny for quite a while before finally speaking; scaring Jinny.)
Jinny: What Mag? Jeeze.
Magda: I asked if you were all right. You look kinda pale. You want me to drive?
Jinny: No. I’ll be fine...I’m fine. (changes the subject) We should stop by that restaurant and check the Warners’ alibi with Maitre De, on the way back to the station. (pulls out onto the road)
Magda: You know, Jin, give me a chance. I know you’re mad at me, but please...
Jinny: Mag, look, I...
Magda: No, Jinny, you look. We used to be able to talk to each other. I want to be there for you. With Gabriel and everything, I need someone right now, too.
Jinny: Fine. Let’s talk about you, Magda. Let’s talk about how screwed up your life is for a change, okay? Just get off mine for a while.
Magda: (angry) Okay, fine Jinny. Just forget it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's all for now, let me know what you think.
Babes_Cat 01-16-2002, 03:46 PM I think..... I think.... I think...
I THINK I LOVE IT!
MORE PLEASE!
FOL_lover 01-16-2002, 04:56 PM i like it, i love it, i want some more of it....oh lord. sry that song has been stuck in my heaad all day 4 no apparent reason but anyway...please post more soon!!
dovesong 01-16-2002, 05:16 PM Thanks for that. I'm gonna go to work singing that song, and then they're all gonna kill me...........
I told Caitlin that I'd post more before I went to work, so thanks Caitlin for you advice and here's more just for you..........(okay, everyone else can read it tooo, I don't want to hear you whining all night, cause WHINERS GO TO BED IN MY HOUSE!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Jinny and Magda rode in silence back to the restaurant. Both were lost their own thoughts. Both were feeling guilty and felt they should apologize. Both were also too stubborn to be the first to do it. Jinny stops the car across the street from the restaurant. She and Magda get out and walk inside. It’s lunchtime and they are very busy. Jinny and Magda walk up to the Maitre de.)
Jinny: Excuse me.
Maitre: Do you have reservations?
Jinny: We’re looking for the Manager.
Maitre: I’m sorry, we’re terribly busy right now, if you don’t have...(sees Jinny’s badge) I’ll see if I can locate him for you.
Jinny: Thanks. You’re a peach. (Maitre de walks off, is gone several minutes, returns with another man)
Man: I’m Paul Smith, the general manager, can I help you with something?
Jinny: (shows badge again) I’m Inspector Exstead, this is Inspector Ramirez. We need to confirm the whereabouts of a Mr. & Mrs. James Warner for last night. Can you confirm the fact that they had reservations here last night?
PS: (looks at his books for the previous night) Yes. They were here. (shows Jinny and Magda the book)
Jinny: Party of five? He never mentioned anyone else. Who were the others, do you know?
PS: Yes, they’re here frequently. He mentioned something about meeting his son’s fiance. The fifth was probably his daughter.
Magda: Son? He never mentioned a son, either.
Jinny: I’ll bet the son has keys.
PS: Are they a suspect in something?
Jinny: Suspect? No, not at all.
PS: Will there be anything else? I’m really sorry, but I’m in the middle of an inventory order that needs to go out in two hours.
Magda: That’s all, thank you.
(The two are turning to leave when Jinny spots a familiar face at a table across the room. Magda is forced to stop before she runs over Jinny. She starts to question Jinny, but instead follows Jinny gaze. Sitting across the room is Theodore Blumenthal, Jinny’s ex-boyfriend. He is apparently in the middle of a business meeting. He never notices Jinny and Jinny turns to leave.)
Magda: (outside) Have you talked to him since you came back?
Jinny: No. Haven’t even seen him.
Magda: Maybe you should.
Jinny: Yeah, well, Maybe (pauses to get in the car, when both are settled in car) you should give Gabriel an answer.
Magda: I gave him an answer. I’m just not sure I’m ready yet.
Jinny: (laughs out loud) That’s not an answer. That’s a short rope. The guy could be out doing it with another girl, living the high life, being happy, but no. He’s waiting on an answer from you. I think you enjoy the fact that he’s strung on your every move; every word. If you’re not going to marry him, just tell him, so that he can at least find someone else and be happy. I think you’re afraid he’ll find someone else and be happy, and Ben will have another mother out there competing for his love. That’s why you’re not giving him an answer.
Magda: (not laughing) That’s not funny, Jinny.
Jinny: That’s not meant to be funny, Mag. At least there’s a finality between Theodore and me. There’s closure. He knows it’s over.
Magda: He knows it over, but did you stop and think, when you broke up with him, that maybe he didn’t want it be over? Did you stop and think that you didn’t want to break up with him?
Jinny: I didn’t?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, gotta get ready for the real world again, folks.

dovesong 01-17-2002, 09:29 AM Well, I had a wonderful day or night or whatever at work, so I thought I'd be kind to you all post more before retire for the night or day or whatever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(They get out of the car back at the station. They finish their conversation on their way into the office.)
Magda: No. Had you really wanted it, you wouldn’t have been in that restaurant looking at him like you’d lost you best friend. You’re just too stubborn to admit it to yourself.
Jinny: Oh, I’m stubborn. (Captain McCafferty overhears this final part of the conversation)
Kate: Never thought I’d hear you admit that, Jinny. What have you got so far?
Jinny: Body hasn’t been identified yet. Probably raped, beaten, stabbed several times; bled to death. Owner’s of the boat found her this morning, not anyone they knew. Boat hasn’t been taken out of dock since last weekend. Mr. Warner’s alibi checks out for the first part of the night, were at a restaurant, then went to the bar. Haven’t checked that out yet.
Kate: Let Magda do the questioning at the bar. Why don’t you hang back at the office. Anything else?
Jinny: (quietly) Gladly. (louder) They have a friend who had his own keys to the boat. Warner says that he hasn’t ask for the boat for a month or so, dock owner verified that it’s been three weeks. Warner failed to mention that he has a son who is older, getting married. I’ll bet that he has keys to the boat. That was just too conveniently left out.
Kate: But he hasn’t signed for the boat either?
Jinny: Dock owner says they don’t always make boat owner’s do the paperwork, especially if they’re known and the Warner’s have been their customers for three years. Haven’t questioned the security guard on duty last night, yet. haven’t questioned Mr. Webb either. I want to speak to Mr. Warner again about his son.
Kate: (nods) Good work. (walks back into her office)
(Jinny and Magda are sitting at their desks discussing where to go for lunch, when CD and Nate return, discussing their case.)
Magda: Hey guys. What’cha working on? (Kate notices their return and exits her office to hear their findings)
CD: Suicide. Parents think she was murdered. She’s their little princess, only child, honor role student, cheerleader, never do anything wrong, little girl. She even volunteered at the homeless shelter down town, mentoring little kids. (CD rolls her eyes)
Nate: Boy, you guys are hard on people. Why can’t you believe that she may have been a good girl. Contrary to popular belief, there are still a few good girls left.
Jinny: Please. This is the 21 Century we’re talking about. There haven’t been any good girls since...
Magda: (interrupts) Since Jinny became a teenager.
Jinny: (big smile) Thank you. I did have an impact on that good girl image in my day.
CD: (big smile, laughing) In your day? Is that day over yet?
Jinny: (still smiling) Not if I can help it.
Kate: (speaking for the first time; they all calm down, Jinny turns away) Have you talked to the boyfriend, yet?
CD: No, we’re waiting for forensics to call us with a report. We found a glass in her room with a white powdery substance in it. We’re waiting for them to identify the substance, and we also waiting for a handwriting expert to determine if the writing on the suicide note matches the writing in a diary we found in her room. We figured we’d break for lunch.
Magda: Where are you going for lunch? We were thinking of pizza. Care to join us?
CD: Sure
Nate: (shrugs) Pizza’s good.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I'll catch you all later. Have a wonderful day, or what ever is left of the day when you read this...............:o
Babes_Cat 01-17-2002, 03:40 PM LOVE IT! MORE PLEASE!

Ditto!!!!! o ya sorry bout the song thing....hehe...
dovesong 01-18-2002, 02:41 PM Okay, I have more for ya. A little thing though, instead of naming the drug, I used *********, because that isn't knowledge that I would share with anyone. Not that you couldn't find out that info if you wanted it bad enough, but I'm not going be the one to share that.
Thanks for understanding.................
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(The conversation was light over lunch. Jinny was pretty quiet, lost in her own thoughts. Half way through the meal the phone on CD’s desk rang.)
CD: De Lorenzo. (pause) Okay. And the handwriting? (pause) Okay, great. Thanks, bye.
Nate: Well?
CD: The white powder was **********. There is another set of prints on the glass other than Ashleigh’s. They’re going to print the parents, thinking they’re just the mother’s from washing it, and we need to print the boyfriend’s when we talk to him.
Nate: And the handwriting?
CD: Doesn’t match. Body tests positive for ********** in lethal quantities. If she didn’t put it there, then who did? The parents? Unlikely.
Nate: Boyfriend?
CD: How’d he get in without the parents knowing?
Nate: Another friend?
CD: Same question, how’d they get in without Mom and Dad knowing?
Jinny: (interrupting their conversation) Who said she didn’t put it there? What were her other alternatives? Put a bullet through her head, or slit her wrists? Neither options sounds appealing to me.
Nate: Well, that’s a pleasant outlook.
Jinny: Yeah, well. (Jinny stopped briefly and took deep breath) There’s gotta something wrong with you to want to kill yourself to start with, but to make you final moments painful. Please. A handful of sleeping pills, works just as well.
Nate: You sound like you’ve....
(CD stands and wipes her mouth, and interrupts Nate before he can finish.)
CD: Nate. Let’s go talk to the boyfriend. (she raises her eyebrow and nods toward the door)
Nate: Okay, lets go. (Nate turns and looks at Jinny and Magda) Ladies.
(CD and Nate walk out of the office and down the hallway. Once they are outside, Nate turns back to look at the building and then turns back around.)
Nate: Boy she’s a bowl of cherries, isn’t she. Three months vacation and comes back like that? Wow.
CD: (pauses, unsure of what to tell him) You know why Jinny was off, right?
Nate: I’ve heard rumors.
CD: She was suspended for showing up at a crime scene intoxicated.
Nate: Rumors are true then?
CD: Yeah. The thing with the suicide, though, it goes deeper than that comment.
Nate: What? She try to kill herself?
CD: No. (pause, deep sigh) Nate, she, um... Her mom, killed herself when Jinny was a kid. Shot herself in the head. Jinny found her. Don’t say anything, okay?
Nate: Ouch. (winces) My lips are sealed.
(Back inside the stations Magda and Jinny are talking.)
Magda: Boy, Jin. That was, um....harsh.
Jinny: Yeah, well, reality is harsh, Mag. Just because the parents think her life was all peaches and cream, doesn’t mean the kid was all happy. She probably felt pressured. You go to church, they expect you to act a certain way, look a certain way, and think a certain way. She was honor roll student who was struggling to find time for her studies in between a demanding boyfriend, rigorous cheerleading practice, the kids at the homeless shelter, and church. And do you think her parents expected anything less than the best? Please. She probably just decided she had too much on her plate and she was full. Where do you find all the time? Where do you find all the energy?
Kate: (startling Jinny, who back was to her) Where do you find all the time and energy to take care of a house, three demanding kids and an alcoholic husband, and still find time for yourself?
Jinny: (looks confused) Excuse me, Captain?
Kate: You blame yourself for your mother’s death, yet you sit here and defend this total and complete stranger for possibly doing the exact same thing? There’s a harsh reality to that, too.
Jinny: Yeah, well, thanks, but I didn’t ask for your input into my personal life.
Kate: Yeah, well, you didn’t need to. Are you guys going back out this afternoon?
Magda: Yes. We’re going to find this friend, and hopefully we’ll be able to question the security guard and maybe the son.
Kate: Good. Keep me informed.
(CD and Nate were sitting outside the high school when it let out that afternoon when Jeffrey Kingsley left the school grounds. They followed him to a small pizza place not far from the school. They waited a few minutes and then followed him inside.)
CD: (walking up to his table) Jeffrey Kingsley?
JK: Yes? Who are you?
CD: Inspector De Lorenzo (shows badge) This Inspector Russo, SFPD. We’d like to ask you some questions. Let’s take a walk.
JK: Hey, (putting his arms around the boy on either side of him) These are my best buds, anything you have to say, is okay with them.
Nate: Good. Because you are a suspect in the murder of Ashleigh Hopkins, and we need....
(Jeffrey jumps up and takes off running for the door. Before he can get to the door, Nate has him against the wall and in handcuffs. One of the boys at the table starts to get up, but CD puts a hand on his shoulder and pushes him back down.)
Nate: All we wanted was to ask you a few questions. You just bought yourself a trip down town for questioning.
JK: I didn’t do anything, I swear!
Nate: That’s what we’re going to find out.
JK: I want to see my parents. You can’t question me without a lawyer present.
Nate: We can arrange that, once we get to the station. (pushes him towards the door)
(Jinny and Magda arrive at a residence a few blocks from the station. It has a small yard and sounds can be heard coming from behind the house. Jinny opens the gate and walks around back. In a small garage, a man can be seen working on an old mustang. Jinny walks around the car, obviously admiring it and still unnoticed by the man. She finally speaks causing him to bump his head on the hood of the car.)
Jinny: Brian Webb.
Brian: Yes, can I help you?
Jinny: (she and Magda show their badges) Inspector Exstead, and Inspector Ramirez, SFPD. We’d like to ask you a few questions if we could.
Brian: Sure. Shoot. (pauses) On second thought, ask away.
Jinny: Thanks. I understand you occasionally borrow a boat from a Mr. James Warner. Can you recall the last time you were on that boat?
Brian: Sure, it was three weeks ago. A friend and I took it out one night.
Jinny: Just a friend? What did you do? Drink a few beers? Fish?
Brian: Actually, it was a lady friend. And I took her out for a little trip on the water. Out under the stars, all’s quiet...
Magda: Umhmmm. and what do you do on these little boat trips?
Brian: (smiling at Jinny) Oh, you know. Wine them. Dine them. If you’re lucky enough, maybe, make our own fireworks.
Jinny: (returns smile) Wow. Nice car, nice boat, smooth talker. I’ll bet you’re pretty lucky with the ladies.
Brian: I don’t get turned down often.
Jinny: (smile still in place) So, what happens when you’re not so lucky?
Brian: Excuse me? I’m not sure I understand where you’re going with this line of questioning.
Jinny: Where were you last night between the hours of, oh, say 8 pm and midnight?
Brian: I was out with a friend.
Magda: A lady friend?
Brian: Yes.
Jinny: Care to give us a name and address? (giving him a slip of paper)
Brian: Sure thing. (writes down a name and address and returns the paper)
Magda: (looks at the name) And you were with her the entire night?
Brian: Yes, and until about four this morning. (smiles at Jinny) Like I said, it’s not often I’m an unlucky person.
Magda: (rolls her eyes) Yeah, I’ll bet.
Brian: (to Jinny) have you ever been on the river at night? The motion of the boat on the water, the cool night air, a full moon’s reflection on the water, (pauses, takes a deep breath) the smell of the night. It just does something to you.
Jinny: (quiet, thinking)
Magda: Yea, I’ll bet it does.
Jinny: (snaps out of her reverie) And the two of you were where, together, last night?
Brian: Here.
Magda: And you were no where near the Warner’s boat at anytime last night?
Brian: No. Is there something wrong?
Magda: Well, not unless you consider getting ready to shove off, and finding a dead body laying on the deck, wrong. I don’t suppose you’d know anything about that, would you?
Brian: (eyes wide) No, nothing. I’m sorry to hear that.
Magda: I don’t suppose your neighbors could vouch for your whereabouts could they?
Brian: They may, yes.
Magda: Good, we’ll be checking. In the meantime, you’ll need to come down to the station and make a formal statement.
Brian: Okay. (still staring at Jinny) I’ll be there.
Magda: Thank you. (looking at Jinny, as they’re walking off) I’ll bet you will.
(They walk back through the gate at the front and knock on a few doors in the neighborhood. Two of the neighbors confirmed being home and seeing Brian Webb at home last night. The others said they were out, or didn’t pay attention. As they are getting back in the car, Jinny stops and looks back toward Mr. Webb’s house.)
Jinny: That’s a really nice car, he’s got.
Magda: (laughs) Get in the car.
Jinny: (smiling) What?
Magda: (mock frustration) Get in the car.
Jinny: (getting in the car) He’s cute. You gotta give him that. I could buy into the charm school act. And, um...
Magda: And, um...You could end up dead. Hello! He’s a murder suspect, Jin. Or do you remember that part?
Jinny: Very funny, Mag.
(CD and Nate brought Jeffrey to the station and sat him in a room. they had passed the captain on their way in and returned to speak with her before questioning him.)
Kate: What happened? I though you were going to just ask him a few questions.
Nate: Well, yeah. That was the plan. But when he bolted at the mention of Ashleigh’s name, we figured we had enough to bring him to question him.
Kate: Ran, huh?
Nate: Like a bat outta hell.
Kate: And he didn’t talk even after you caught him?
CD: Oh, yeah, he talked. “I didn’t do it, I want my Daddy, I want my lawyer.”
Kate: Think he did it?
CD: I think he ran for a reason. We’re going to call his parents and his lawyer. They’re fingerprinting him now, and then we’ll question him.
(There was a knock on the Captain’s door and Raina came in waving a sheet of paper.)
Raina: Lab results are in, fingerprints don’t match parents. There was someone else in that room. And also, I know Jinny and Magda aren’t back yet, but I’ll give you a sneak peak. Not that we didn’t already know, but there was semen on the body and cause of death was due to several stab wounds causing the victim to bleed to death. They’re working on identifying the body now. I all of our recently filed missing persons profiles, that may fit the description of the body. They’re going to check them out and give us a call back.
Kate: Thank you, Raina.
Raina: Anytime, anytime.
(CD and Nate left the captain’s office with Raina. Jinny and Magda walked in about the same time.)
Kate: What are you guys doing back?
Magda: Did the ME happen to ....
Raina: (holds up the paper waving it. She reviews what she had just told the captain)
Magda: Like we didn’t already know she was raped and murdered.
Jinny: We questioned the friend, Brian Webb. Says he was with a girl all night at home. We questioned the girl and some of the neighbors. His alibi checks.
Magda: Yeah, and if he’s clear after this is over, I think Jinny may have found romance.
Jinny: (smiling) I said he had a nice car. Lots of people have nice cars.
Magda: (sitting down, raises her eyebrow at Jinny) Yeah, but you weren’t just checking out the car, you were checking out what under his hood, too.
Jinny: (blushing, big smile) (picks up the first object she gets a hold of (a pen) and throws at Magda) I was not. (pauses, smiles bigger) Was I that obvious?
Magda: (eyes wide, nods)
CD: (smiling) Wow, Jinny. Was he good looking?
Jinny: Hey, just because you’re getting a divorce doesn’t mean I need your competition. I saw him first, he’s mine. Besides, he’s a murder suspect, Inspector De Lorenzo. (throws a glance Magda’s way to see her smile and shake her head)
Kate: (turns to go back in her office) Shouldn’t you guys be working on something?
(Everyone lost their smiles and turned back to their desks, looking busy until the captain shut the door to her office. They all laugh when she closes her door. They’re still joking back and forth when the phone rang on Jinny’s desk.)
Jinny: Exstead. (pause) You’re sure? You have an address? (pause) Great. We’ll get on it. (hangs up phone, turns to Magda) Victim’s name was Peyton Alexandria Simpson. 21. Single. Reported missing 2 days ago by family. Residing with family at 302 Maple Lane. We need to bring the parents in to positively ID the body. Damn.
Magda: I’ll check it with Cap. (comes back out of the office) Let’s go.
(Jinny nods and get up to leave. She starts for the door, but returns for her water. She picks it up and takes a drink, tips her bottle at CD and Nate then turns to leave.)
Jinny: I have a feeling I’ll be moving to the hard stuff before the day is over.
CD: (just stares at Jinny, astonished)
Jinny: Yeah, I’m saving that Pepsi for the lowest point of my day, and I think it’s coming.
CD: (laughs as Jinny leaves)
Raina: (hangs up the phone) Okay. Kingsley’s lawyer and parents are here and he is ready.
CD: Have they called with his fingerprints yet?
Raina: Not yet. I’ll hand them to you as soon as I get word.
CD: Okay. Thanks. You know where to find us. Nate, you want to stick your head in there and let Cap know we’re ready.
Nate: Sure.
(In the interrogation room, introductions are made around the table and shortly things were underway.)
Nate: Mr. Kingsley, you were friendly with Ashleigh Hopkins, were you not?
Jeff: Friendly, how?
Nate: The two of you were rumored to be a couple, is that a correct statement?
Jeff: (nods) Yes.
Nate: How long had you been together? As a couple?
Jeff: About a year.
Nate: The two of you fought often, correct?
Jeff: We argued, yes.
CD: Did you hit her?
Jeff: What?! No. I never hit her.
Nate: Tell me about the day in the school parking lot, when her dad came to pick her up.
Jeff: We were arguing.
Nate: And you grabbed her.
Jeff: I took her arm, yes.
Nate: You grabbed her had enough that you left marks on her arm, that’s been proven by the medical examiner.
CD: In this year that the two of you were together, how many of your arguments became physical?
Jeff: I never hit her! I loved her! I was going to ask her to marry me, when we graduated. I loved her! And I didn’t kill her!
Nate: Then who did? Where were you last night?
Jeff: At church.
Nate: Church?
Jeff: Yes, church. Ashleigh was mad at me for Friday. She wouldn’t answer the phone when I called, her parents told me to go away when I went to see her at home, so, I went to church to try to catch her and apologize. She wasn’t there, but I was. Ask anyone.
Nate: We will. Who killed her? Any ideas?
Jeff: No. I don’t know who would even want to kill her. She was great. She was my best friend, even though I wasn’t perfect. She helped me with my homework so I could stay on the football team. I don’t know.
(There was a knock on the door and CD opened it. Raina was there and handed her a paper. CD shut the door still reading the paper. She tried to hide the disappointment and she handed the paper to Nate. He looked it over and handed it back to CD. He turned back to Jeffrey.)
Nate: Do you have to take a drug test before you can play football?
Jeff: Yes. Why?
Nate: Did you pass it?
Jeff: I’m playing aren’t I?
Nate: Yes or no?
Jeff: (looks towards his parents, then his lawyer, then down at the table) No.
Nate: Why? What are you using?
Jeff: Steroids.
Nate: (sits back in his chair and sighs, that wasn’t what he wanted to hear)
Law: You’re fishing, Inspector. Is my client a suspect?
Nate: I want a drug test. Today, before you leave. Then we’ll give you an answer to that.
(Nate got up and he and CD left the room. Nate walked over to the wall on the other side of the hallway and punched it. The captain and CD just stared at him for a minute.)
Nate: He loves her, but he doesn’t even shed the first tear? Fingerprints don’t match those on the glass, but he knows something, and I’m going to find out what it is.
Kate: Calm down, Inspector. Call it quits for today. Get a fresh start in the morning. Drug test should be back by then.
(Jinny and Magda are parked outside the residence at 302 Maple Lane. Jinny keeps looking toward the house, but makes no move at getting out of the car.)
Magda: Jinny, we can’t sit here all day. We have to go in eventually.
Jinny: I know, Magda. Just give me a few minutes.
Magda: It’s not that different, Jinny.
Jinny: What? What do you mean?
Magda: You’re thinking about your mom and how hard it was to having to see her, and you’re thinking about this woman having to see her daughter in pretty much the same way. And you’re thinking how hard it’s going to be for her. And for you to be there with her.
Jinny: (deep breath) Wrong. (she opens the car door and turns to get out) But I was thinking about how I didn’t want to be here.
dovesong 01-19-2002, 02:27 PM Okay folks, here's a little more before I head out to work. It's snowing here and supposed to snow more, so if I make it to work, I may have to stay there for a couple days if no one else can get to work (they'll use any excuse not to come to work), so if I don't post tomorrow, don't send out the lynching party just yet.
(They walked up to the house and knocked on the door, a middle-aged woman answered the door with an infant in her arms.)
Woman: Hello.
Magda: Mrs. Simpson?
Mrs. S: Yes?
Magda: (she and Jinny show badges) My name is Inspector Ramirez, this is Inspector Exstead, we’re with the SFPD.
Mrs. S: What can I do for you? (the baby starts to fuss) Can you come in and sit down? I need to fix her a bottle.
Magda: Sure.
(Mrs. Simpson leads Jinny and Magda into a living room and they sit down. Magda offers to hold the baby while Mrs. Simpson fixes her bottle. Magda talks to the baby the entire time Mrs. Simpson is gone, and actually has the baby smiling. Magda turns the baby toward Jinny, for Jinny to see.)
Magda: (talking to the baby) Say, Hi to Jinny. Hi, Jinny.
Jinny: No, thanks, Mag. Don’t curse me. I don’t need no babies keeping me up at night.
Mrs. S. (returning from the kitchen) She’s eats so much. I can’t get anything done for feeding her, or changing her, but I guess it’s all worth it.
Jinny: (smiling) That’s a matter of opinion.
Magda: (shakes her head) Mrs. Simpson, I understand you filed a missing persons’ report for your daughter s few days ago. Can you describe her, or do you have a picture of her?
Mrs. S: Yes, that picture on the mantle is of her and the baby’s daddy.
Magda: (gets up and retrieves the pictures, then shows it to Jinny) Mrs. Simpson, I believe we’ve found you daughter. I’m afraid you’ll have to come with us, to make a positive identification.
Mrs. S: You mean....
Magda: She’s dead, yes. I’m terribly sorry.
(Mrs. Simpson places the baby in a carrier and puts her hand over her mouth, struggling to keep from crying. Jinny looks around the room and finds a box of tissues. She hands them to Magda, who, in turn, hands them to Mrs. Simpson. She accepts a few tissues and begins to sob, uncontrollably. After several minutes, she seems to calm down. She gets herself ready, while Magda prepares the baby for the trip. Jinny is looking around the room, at photos and things. They arrive at the coroner’s office and go inside.)
(There is little talk and soon the body is taken from a drawer. The coroner is careful not to show more than the face because of the severity of the wounds. Upon her first sight of the body, Mrs. Simpson’s knees buckle beneath her and she again begins to cry. Magda grabs the baby, and hands her to Jinny who has remained distant the entire time. At first Jinny isn’t sure what to do with the baby, but she knows she isn’t helping Magda in any other way, so she takes the baby and finds a chair outside, where the baby cannot hear her grandmother’s cries. Tears form in Jinny’s own eyes, thinking about another child going through life without a mother. ‘Well,’ Jinny thinks, ‘at least she wasn’t old enough to remember her mother, and all the good things about her.’)
(They take Mrs. Simpson home, where they ask a few more questions.)
Magda: Mrs. Simpson, were your daughter and the baby’s father still together?
Mrs. S: No. They separated not long after he found out she was pregnant. He hasn’t been around since.
Magda: Did he ever threaten her? Do you think he would do this to her?
Mrs. S: I don’t think so. They got along really well. He even sent her money every two weeks. It wasn’t much, but it was something. He said he wasn’t ready to take on the responsibilities of being a father. I don’t think he ever forgave his father for leaving his mother for another woman.
Jinny: Do you know where he is, now? We really need to question him.
Mrs. S: Yes. He always put his address on his letters. Here, (hands them an envelop) here is his last letter. It isn’t too far away, but he never came to see her.
Jinny: Justin Watkins? That’s his name? Has she dated anyone else since their separation?
Mrs. S: No. Nobody.
Jinny: Thanks. We’ll get back in touch with you.
(They leave the residence and get back in the car. Jinny seems shaken. Magda puts a hand on her arm)
Magda: Are you okay?
Jinny: Yes, I’m okay. Can we call it a day? I need to (she stops)
Magda: You need a drink? Is that what you’re thinking?
Jinny: Thinking it. But really, I just, (pause) I need some time.
Magda: Sure. Let’s go home. You want to stick around the house for a while? Ben has been asking when you’re coming to see him.
Jinny: Maybe tomorrow, Mag. I need to be alone.
Magda: (worried look on her face) Call your sponsor, Jinny. (face lightens up) Call Teddy.
Jinny: (smiles) Theodore.
Magda: Let’s go.
(Jinny drops Magda off and drives around for a while. She drives past a few of her old hang outs. She’s shaking and sweating by the time that she arrives home. She opens the door and her dad is sitting on the couch, drinking. Jinny tries to ignore it, and sits down.)
Dad: Jinny girl. How was work today? (drink)
Jinny: Good, dad. You know, I got up early this morning. I’m gonna go lay down, for a while, Okay.
Dad: Sure, Jinny girl. You do that. (drink)
Jinny: Thanks, dad.
(Jinny gets up and turns to leave, she gets to the door and turns around in time to see her dad take another drink. This is the image she carries with her into her room. Just like so many years ago, all Jinny can think about is the sound of the ice tinkling in his glass, and that desire to be able to forget is just so overwhelming. Jinny is struggling to find something else to occupy her mind. She picks up the phone and dials an number.)
Jinny: (listens) Hey, Theodore. It’s um, it’s Jinny. I saw you at a restaurant today, and was thinking about you. Magda said I should call you and the more I thought about it, the more I agreed with her. Just wondering what you were into these days. Sorry I missed you. Bye.
(Jinny lays the phone on her chest as a tear rolls down her cheek. She hangs up the phone and lays down. So she has drifted off into a fitful sleep. Jinny‘s dad comes in to check on her and to let her know dinner was ready, but he sees her asleep and decides not to wake her. She sleeps the rest of the night and wakes up the next morning with the alarm clock. Though she‘s slept the entire night, she still feels tired and worn out.)
(Jinny slowly drags herself out of bed and showers. She pulls the first thing she finds in her closet and puts it on. She grabbed her leather jacket and put it on, on her way out the door. She called out her goodbyes as the door closed. She drove to the station, ready for another day. She walked in, in much the same manner as the day before.)
Jinny: (when she sees everyone looking at her) Morning guys.
Magda: Rough night? Did you call your sponsor?
Jinny: No. I went home and went to bed.
Magda: Oh.
Jinny: (matter-of-factly) I called Theodore, though.
Magda: (smiling) Oh, yeah? Tell me more.
Jinny: I got his answering machine.
Magda: And?
Jinny: And nothing. He never called me back.
Magda: Oh.
CD: You guys getting anywhere on your case?
Jinny: Nah. Mother identified the body. Victim had a baby. Father hasn’t been around since she got pregnant. We’re gonna swing by and talk to him today, and the security guard.
Raina: (hanging up the phone) Hey, guys. New info on the boat owners. Mr. Warner’s son, whose name is Douglas by the way, has had several domestic violence warrants filed against him in the past. Here’s his current address.
Jinny: Hello.
Magda: I can see why dad didn’t mention him now.
Jinny: Yeah, well, let’s go have a word with Mr. Douglas Warner.
(Magda and Jinny get up to leave when Captain McCafferty walks out of her office.)
Kate: Where are you guys off to so early in the morning?
Magda: We’re off to question one Mr. Douglas Warner. Who, we just found out, has several domestic violence warrants against him from past girlfriends.
Kate: Oh, okay. (to CD and Nate) How about the two of you?
CD: Going to the high school to ask a few questions. Maybe to the homeless shelter. Maybe someone there liked her looks.
Kate: Okay. Keep me posted.
(Jinny and Magda are walking down the hall talking about nothing in particular. Jinny puts on her sunglasses before opening the door to walk outside. As she’s following Magda out the door, she brushes up against the person entering and causes him to lose his briefcase, which comes open.)
Jinny: Oh, gosh. I’m sorry. Here let me help you.
Man: No, really. That quite....(pauses, looks up) Jinny?
Jinny: (to embarrassed to have noticed who it was earlier) Theodore?
Teddy: I got your message last night. You didn’t leave a
number where I could call you back. I tried to call your apartment, but the message said your number was no longer in service.
Jinny: Um, yeah. I kinda moved in with my dad. Sorry about that.
Teddy: I heard about you going to rehab. I’m proud of you.
Jinny: Thanks. Um, (runs her hand through her hair) listen, I gotta go. Magda’s waiting for me. Can we get together sometime and talk?
Teddy: (sighs) Jinny, I...
Jinny: Just talk.
Teddy: (thinks for a minutes) Sure. I’m in a rush, too, so call me tonight. I should be home. If I’m not, leave me your number.
Jinny: (looks down, nods) Okay. Thanks. Bye.
Teddy: (nods) Bye.
(Jinny had already turned to leave, so she didn’t see Teddy turn around and run into another lady, spilling his briefcase, yet again.)
Magda: (returned to see what happened to Jinny) What happened to you?
Jinny: I ran into an old friend. Literally.
Magda: Who?
Jinny: (smiling) Theodore.
Magda: (smiling) And?
Jinny: He told me I could call him again tonight.
Magda: Wow. That was fast.
Jinny: Just to talk, Mag. I told you, (smile fades) it’s over between us.
Magda: He tell you that?
Jinny: Not in as many words. Let’s go talk to this security guard first. See what he’s got to say. Maybe he can place someone there that night.
(Jinny and Magda drove to the security guards house in silence. Magda could tell that whatever Jinny and Teddy had talked about was weighing on Jinny’s mind. She wanted to ask about it, but decided not to. She would give Jinny the time she needed to work it out. They got out of the car at the residence in question and knocked on the door. A woman came to the door and looked out the window. Jinny and Magda flashed their badges and the door opened slowly.)
Magda: We’re looking for a David Green that works at the Sitz Dock. He live here?
Lady: Yes, but he works the night shift, ya know, and he’s in bed.
Jinny: (slightly ticked) Well, get him up. (pushes on the door slightly to open it further, and walks in)
(The lady shows Jinny and Magda into a sitting room and leaves. A few minutes later, Jinny and Magda hear the complaining of the gentleman who was roused from a deep sleep. He appears in the sitting room, pants on, but shirt haphazardly tucked.)
Man: What do you want?
Magda: Are you David Green?
Man: Yes.
Magda: We’re Inspectors Ramirez and Exstead, with the SFPD. (flash badges) We were told you were on duty the night of the murder. Can you tell us anything about that night? See anybody come or go? Hear any screams? Anything?
DG: No. I didn’t hear anything. Didn’t see anything.
Jinny: You saw nothing, and heard nothing? There’s only one way into the dock, right? And that’s through you, right?
DG: Yeah, well, I’m the only one on duty, see? And nature occasionally calls. I have to relieve myself sometime, don’t I?
Jinny: You can’t lock the gate? Put up a sign, “Back in 5 minutes” or ten or something like that?
DG: I never thought about that. People so rarely come at night anyway.
Jinny: Brian Webb comes at night.
DG: Yeah, well, he has his own key. He doesn’t bother me.
Magda: Are you saying that he doesn’t do the paperwork? Was he there that night?
DG: I didn’t say he was there that night.
Jinny: But if nature called, and he came in, you wouldn’t have know. Right?
DG: That boat never left it’s dock.
Magda: It didn’t have to. What about Douglas Warner? Does he have a key to the boat?
DG: Of course. It’s his parents’ boat.
Magda: He come here often?
DG: Not with women. Besides he’s engaged. Pretty little thing too, met her at their daughter's birthday party.
Jinny: (looking confused) Last weekend? Parents just met the fiance this weekend, two nights ago to be exact.
DG: Well, he had some girl with him last weekend. And they were pretty friendly.
Magda: Thank you. You’ll need to come to the station to make a formal statement.
DG: Okay. Fine. Can I get some sleep now?
Jinny: Yeah. Thanks. (sarcastically) I hope we find the murderer, too.
(They get up and leave. Walking back to the car, Jinny and Magda are talking.)
Jinny: Jerk. How do you get stabbed, how many times again? And not make a noise? I think he turned his head; a little extra dough can cause temporary blindness, and hearing loss, among other symptoms.
Magda: Makes you wonder doesn’t it?
Jinny: Yeah, well, let’s go see Douglas Warner. See what he has to say.
Lets got get ready for work, AGAIN. Funny seems like I just came from there.....
Babes_Cat 01-20-2002, 04:52 PM YAY! Michelle more please!
dovesong 01-21-2002, 06:52 PM Goooooood eeeeevening, I'm off tomorrow, so I'm happy and I thought that I'd post more. It's a good thing I slept all day, because I have a feeling I'm gonna be up all night with a sick kiddo.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(CD and Nate drove up to the high school and parked. They walked inside and flashed their badges at the secretary, requesting to meet with the principal. They were seated and asked to wait, temporarily. A young student with green and purple hair and a nose ring exited the office and they were ushered in.)
Harris: I’m Warren Harris, principal here. What can I do for you?
Nate: Nate Russo, (shaking hands, point to CD) Inspector De Lorenzo. (shaking hands, all sit) We wanted to ask you a few questions about Ashleigh Hopkins.
Harris: That was a tragedy wasn’t it? Such a bright young lady. So talented. So cheery. You’d never think that she, of all people, would commit suicide. She had so much going for her. You know, she had a full scholarship to Harvard Medical School. Everyone liked her.
CD: She never exhibited any signs of depression? No......I’m not a doctor......no drop in grades, no tardiness, no reclusive behavior? Nothing?
Harris: No. Nothing I’ve been told about. Generally I’m informed about such things in my brighter students. We understand that the pressures of life can sometimes become to much, and we want to curb this behavior before it becomes destructive. Sometimes, even we miss the signs.
CD: (nods, thinking) We’d like to question some of her closest friends, if we can. See if they can help us out.
Harris: Of course, I’ll have some of them assembled here in about half an hour.
CD: Thank you. (not rising, determined to wait)
(Nate and CD questioned every member of the cheerleading squad, and several other friends that Ashleigh had apparently made for one reason or another. They all told the same story. Ashleigh was the model child. Never late for anything, always happy, always willing to help out with everybody’s problems. Never talking about her own, if she ever had any. No one knew why she would want to kill herself or why anyone else would want to kill her. As Nate and CD were walking back to their car at noon time, a girl approached.)
Girl: Excuse me.
CD: Yes? Can I help you?
Girl: Are you guys investigating the suicide of Ashleigh Hopkins?
CD: Or her murder, yes.
Girl: My name is Kiersten Richardson, and I know why she killed herself.
CD: Oh, you do? She killed herself? You’re certain of that?
Kiersten:Well, yeah. She killed herself, because she was sleeping with Jeffrey Kingsley, and was pregnant. Imagine tell that to your parents. Bye-bye, Harvard Medical School, Bye-bye big savings account that daddy had for her. She was just really pressured you know?
Nate: And you know this to be a fact?
Kiersten:Yes.
Nate: And how did you know this?
Kiersten:I just knew. I was a cheerleader. We were together a lot. I knew when she missed her period.
CD: Funny. The other girls never mentioned anything about that.
Kiersten:They didn’t pay as much attention as I did.
Nate: And you paid so much attention, why?
Kiersten:You just notice these things when you’re next in line for head cheerleader. You wait for the other girl to screw up, somehow. And that’s one of the biggest mistakes a cheerleader can make, is forgetting protection. We’ve had to replace three cheerleaders already this year, well Ashleigh made the third. They were all pregnant. Stupid mistakes.
CD: (nods) Thank you. We’ll be going now, but we’ll contact you again in the near future.
Kiersten:Okay. You know she really wasn't that perfect. She and Jeffrey were always fighting. She really wasn't that good for his image at all. Someone else could have been better for him, but he just wouldn't hear of it.
(Nate and CD get in the car and watch Kiersten walk back toward the high school. They watch her until she disappears inside and then drive away.)
Nate: Boy, she doesn’t look too sorry that Ashleigh’s gone, either. Think she was really pregnant?
CD: Don’t know. M.E. didn’t say anything about it. We can always call and ask.
Nate: Think he found out she was pregnant and killed her?
CD: Prints don’t match, Nate.
Nate: Then maybe he had someone else do it?
CD: (looks across at him, then back to the road) Grasping at straws aren’t you, Inspector?
Nate: He knows something. I don’t think he’s telling us everything.
(They arrived back at the station and placed a call to the Medical Examiner. He wasn’t available to take their call, so they left the message with him to check for the pregnancy theory.)
(Jinny and Magda, are across town from the station, pulling into the driveway of Douglas Warner, who is preparing to leave. Instead of parking in the street as they usually do, Jinny pulled into the driveway to block his exit. They get out of the car and approach as Douglas leans against his own car and crosses his arms.)
Jinny: Inspectors Exstead and Ramirez (showing badges), SFPD. You Douglas Warner?
Doug: I wondered how long it would take for you to track me down, officers.
Jinny: Inspectors. Your dad didn’t make it easy for us. Withholding evidence is a felony.
Doug: Dad was just trying to protect me. But I’m sure you know by now that I was with my dad that night, with my fiance.
Jinny: Part of the night. And we also know that you were with your fiance last weekend at your sister’s birthday party, and they were two different women. Care to explain that to us?
Doug: I never said that woman was my fiance, but yes, I did have another girl with me at the party. Sharon isn’t a water bunny. Misty, on the other hand, well, she’s likes the water.
Jinny: So, does Sharon know about Misty?
Doug: No. And I broke up with Misty that weekend, and I’d appreciate Sharon not finding out.
Magda: Where did you go, once you left the restaurant the other night?
Doug: I took Sharon home and came back here.
Jinny: Alone?
Doug: Alone.
Jinny: Neighbors vouch for that?
Doug: I don’t know. It was probably eleven when I got home.
Magda: Tell us about the domestic violence warrants you’ve been served in the past.
Doug: (smiles, nods) Yeah. I’ve had a couple served in the past, but I’ve done my anger management stuff, and I’ve learned my lessons. Things have been good between Sharon and me.
Magda: What about between you and Misty?
Doug: Why? She say something?
Jinny: What do you think?
Doug: (sighs) Look, we had an argument. There was some yelling back and forth, but I never touched her. That stupid security guard kept looking at her, and hitting on her and she was just lapping it up. I got mad and she left. (Magda and Jinny exchange looks) And I just played right into that didn’t I?
Jinny: (smiles, shrugs)
Doug: We argued, I never touched her.
Jinny: (shrugs again) Nobody said you did.
Magda: Did you know the victim? Peyton Simpson? (shows him a photo) You were only a couple years older than her.
Doug: No, I didn’t know her.
Magda: We’ll be in touch. (they turn around and walk off. Get in their car and drive off)
(Jinny and Magda return to the station to break for lunch. As Jinny and Magda are walking into the station, they pass Brian Webb leaving. He stops them and talks to Jinny.)
Brian: Hey. I told you I’d be here.
Jinny: So you did.
Brian: Anything new?
Jinny: Yeah, we’ve identified the body as a Peyton Simpson, (shows the picture) look familiar?
Brian: Um, yeah. I took her out on the boat a few weeks ago. She didn’t say anything about her name being Peyton, though.
Jinny: Where’d you meet her?
Brian: In a bar on the east side.
Magda: In a bar? She was only 18.
Brian: (shaking his head) Eighteen?!?! She told me she was 22. And she didn’t say her name was Peyton. What was it she said? Heather? I think. Yeah, I’m pretty sure it was Heather.
Magda: Last name?
Brian: I didn’t ask. She didn’t say. My God, she was only 18?
Jinny: Yeah. And a mother.
Brian: Oh, my God.
Magda: You don’t ask? How could you not at least know their name?
Brian: (smiling wryly) It isn’t really that important. If you know what I mean.
Magda: (rolls her eyes) I’m thinking you need to go on back inside and add to the statement you just made. You care to do that?
Brian: No. Not at all. (to Jinny) You wouldn’t want to grab a bite to eat later would you?
Jinny: I’m sure I’ll be eating later, but I’m trying to cut back. I’ll take a rain check thanks.
Brian: (as they walk past him, to Jinny) Strike one.
Jinny: (looks back at him and shakes her head, turns back around and smiles)
Jinny: (to Magda, once they’re away from Brian Webb) He doesn’t give up, easily.
Magda: Reminds me of someone else.
Jinny: Who?
Magda: (nods her head in the direction of their department and the gentleman standing outside the door)
Jinny: (smiles to Theodore) Hi. I thought you said you were busy, and for me to call you tonight.
Teddy: Lunch break. Are you hungry?
Jinny: Starving.
Teddy: Anchorside?
Jinny: (winces) Ummmm. No. Pizza?
Teddy: Sure. I like pizza.
Jinny: (smiles) Good, cause I’m beginning to hate it. (turns to Magda) Hey, Mag. We’re gonna grab a bite, that okay with you?
Teddy: Wanna come?
Magda: No. I see CD and Nate. I go with them. You two go ahead.
Jinny: Thanks, Mag.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, there you go, let me know what you think........
Babes_Cat 01-21-2002, 07:44 PM LOVE IT! MORE PLEASE HUN!
dovesong 01-22-2002, 02:04 PM For a change, I have nothing really to say. But here's more to the story................
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Teddy and Jinny walked to the pizza place across the street in silence. He opened the door for her and pulled out a chair for her at the table. Jinny looked up and smiled her thanks. Jinny had never felt so awkward with a man before. Then, she’d probably never been on a date sober before, either. Once, she was seated, he went and placed their order, then returned and sat down. They were quiet for a minute. Neither looked at each other, save for quick glances. Teddy finally broke the silence.)
Teddy: I, um, ordered you spaghetti. Is that okay? You do still like...
Jinny: (interrupts with a laugh) (quietly) Yeah, that fine, thanks.
Teddy: I haven’t seen you around for a while.
Jinny: (smiles) You’ve heard the rumors, I’m sure.
Teddy: Rumors, yeah. Rumor has it you were suspended.
Jinny: (raises eyebrows, tilts her head, not quite a nod)
Teddy: What happened?
Jinny: (shrugs) Stupid really. I went to rehab. Been sober for three and a half months now.
Teddy: (eyes wide) Wow. So, what are you drinking now?
Jinny: (laughs) Lots of water.
Teddy: (jumps up) I’ll be right back. (returns) I’m really sorry, I didn’t know.
Jinny: (smiles, head turned down) That’s okay, really.
(CD, Nate, Magda, and Captain McCafferty are sitting in a booth at the Anchorside. They are laughing and talking.)
CD: It’s been a while since you’ve been out with us,
Magda. We’ve missed you.
Magda: Well, I can’t just leave Jinny out there all on her own. She needs to know someone supports her. (CD and Nate get quiet. Guilty?) Hey, I’m sorry, that didn’t sound good. It’s just that, I’m the one that did this to her and I want her to know that I’m proud of her and all, you know?
Kate: So, where is Jinny now?
Magda: (big smile) Lunch, with Teddy, or sorry, Theodore.
CD: I thought that was over.
Magda: Was. Jinny says it still is. I think she’s trying to punish herself for something. I don’t know what. Letting him go to start with, or being drunk. I don’t know. But she needs to do something good for herself, you know.
Kate: I heard she’d moved in with her dad, how’s that going? Doesn’t he drink a lot?
Magda: Yeah. I don’t know. She doesn’t talk about it.
CD: Can’t be good in the long run.
Magda: I know. I’m worried about her. But she doesn’t have the money to do anything else right now. And you know that Jinny isn’t going to ask for help, from anybody. She won’t even talk to me about it. I think she’s still mad at me.
Kate: Well, I’m glad to have her back. Sober. She’s an asset to the Division. She’s smart, if she’ll just use it.
Magda: (nods)
(There is again silence, for a short time between Jinny and Teddy. The waitress brings their meal, and turns to leave. The rest of their conversation is done over their meal.)
Teddy: So, you been seeing anybody?
Jinny: (laughs) Only my sponsor, and he’s really not my type. You?
Teddy: (makes face) Um, yeah. Kind of. Nothing serious, though.
Jinny: (gives Teddy a doubtful look) Oh, come on. You can tell me.
Teddy: We’ve been out twice. There’s no fireworks or anything. (shakes his head) It’s not serious.
Jinny: (still looking doubtful) But you were hoping it would go that way. (not a question)
Teddy: (guilty smile)
Teddy: I, um, I saw you.
Jinny: Saw me?
Teddy: In the bar that night, with that guy. I came to apologize for canceling on you. I saw you with him.
Jinny: (smile fades, looks down) I was going to tell you yes, you know. I struggled with it all day. I thought about me, and about you, and about us, and I was going to say yes.
Teddy: That’s why you did it? Because you were mad at me?
Jinny: No. (smiles slightly) I did it because I was drunk.
Teddy: (nods)
Jinny: (laughs) I got drunk because I was mad at you.
(Teddy laughs) (silence) Look, I didn’t call you to fight. I didn’t call to make excuses.
Teddy: (quietly) Then why did you call?
Jinny: We left things kind of hanging out there. And I just wanted to say, I’m sorry. Sorry for hurting you. Sorry for (quietly) still (then) loving you. And I just wanted to, I guess, make things final between us. We still have to work together occasionally, and I don’t want anything getting in the way of that relationship.
Teddy: (smirks) Funny.
Jinny: Excuse me?
Teddy: It’s just funny. I thought you had called to tell me you didn’t want it to be over. You say you still love me, then you say goodbye? I guess I missed something in there.
Jinny: (dumbstruck)
Teddy: Well, I mean, I guess, when you called, and then we came here and you told me you’d gone to rehab, I guess I thought that was your way of apologizing. I thought you were going to ask if we could pick up where we left off and I had been sitting her preparing a speech about trust and now (pause), I don’t get to give it. I kind of think you would have liked it, under different circumstances.
Jinny: Those circumstances being?
Teddy: You not saying goodbye, for one.
Jinny: (confused) I don’t understand.....
Teddy: I loved you, Jinny. From the moment I laid eyes on you. I thought you were beautiful, and smart, and a handful. (laughs) I knew that I could love you, and I tried really hard to show you that. You kept saying no, and then, when you finally said yes, I was on cloud nine. God, Jinny, I got a tattoo for you. Does that not give you some clue? That’s the stupidest and probably the most painful thing I’ve ever done in my life, next to walking away from you that night.
Jinny: (almost in tears) I’m sorry. I...
Teddy: I hadn’t seen or heard from you for three months, I just thought that maybe you really wanted it to be over. I met this girl a few weeks ago, and when you resurfaced last week and still didn’t get in touch with me, I called her.
Jinny: (trying not to cry) I don’t know what to say.
Teddy: There are only two things you can say.
Jinny: (looks at him curiously)
Teddy: Goodbye. (pause) Or hello.
(Jinny is completely silent, gazing into Teddy’s eyes. She isn’t sure what to do. She was prepared for him to blow her off and here he is saying welcome home. She’s afraid to speak, but afraid not to say something before he changes his mind. She knows her time is running out and that she has to get back to work soon, but she can’t seem to move or speak. Teddy helps out a little by continuing.)
Teddy: I won’t say that you didn’t hurt me, Jinny. It was like a knife being stabbed into my heart. And I can’t say that I didn’t lose some of that trust, but I’m willing to try again. If that’s what you really want. (pauses waiting for Jinny to speak) Um, Jinny? You’re starting to worry me. (puts a hand on her face) Jinny?
Jinny: (snaps out of it) I’m sorry. (wipes a tear) Are you sure you’re willing to do that? I mean, I wasn’t expecting...
Teddy: (stood and bent over the table, to kiss her the tear rolling down her cheek) (whispers) I’ll take that as a yes.
(Teddy takes her hand and helps her up. He lays money on the table to pay for the half eaten meal and they walk back across the street. (He opens the door for her and kisses her on the cheek again as they part ways. Jinny goes into the Division and there is everyone staring at her. She can feel the heat from her cheeks and the tears spilling over. Her hands are shaking as she turns around and heads for the locker room. Magda and the others exchanged worried looks as CD, Magda and Captain McCafferty follow closely behind her. Raina trailed behind unsure if she was a welcome addition to their group. Nate knew he could be of no assistance and remained behind.)
(In the locker room, Jinny is splashing cold water on her face in an attempt to cool herself down and make herself presentable. She has always felt it a weakness to cry, but her emotions did occasionally win over. Magda led the way in and put her arms on Jinny’s to turn her. She handed Jinny a towel to dry her face and waited. After several minutes, Jinny felt composed enough to talk.)
Jinny: I’m really sorry about that, guys.
Kate: Don’t mention it. Everybody needs some time on occasion.
Magda: What happened? Want to talk about it?
Jinny: (smiles) You know, I called him to tell him I was sorry for everything and just to say goodbye. That’s all I had planned on doing. But...
Magda: He say something? Was he angry? What?
Jinny: (more composed) It’s nothing, really. I’m okay, now.
CD: Jinny, if there’s something you need to talk about. We’re here for you.
Jinny: It’s just that, I was prepared for a big speech, about how he’d loved me and trusted me, and how could I do this to him and he never wanted to see me again and everything. I was ready for that.
Magda: But?
Jinny: He went through the part about having loved me and trusted me.
Magda: And?
Jinny: And I kept waiting for the ‘goodbye, I never want to see you again’ part. But it never came. Instead, it was, ‘I got a tattoo for you......’ and, well...
Kate: He still loves you.
Jinny: (smirks) Yeah.
Kate: What’s so unbelievable about that?
Jinny: (stares at her)
Kate: Well, I mean, you’re pretty, you’re smart. (pause) You’re sober. What’s not to like? Mr. Blumenthal is a smart man, and smart enough to realize that. Don’t sell yourself short. Just because you’ve hand problems, doesn’t mean you’re a failure. You make mistakes, you learn from them. (she turned to leave and then turned back) Key thing is, don’t make the same mistakes twice.

Well, there you go, now it's back to the drawing board. My boss just called and left me the message that she needs me to work this evening:lol: :happyface :happyface :lol:

dovesong 01-22-2002, 08:23 PM Well, I'm going to go watch my (other) show in about an hour so, I thought I'd post this, and challenge your minds a little. First read it.......
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Jinny finally composes herself enough to leave the locker room. They ran their plan to interview the boyfriend by the captain and headed out to finish the afternoon.)
(CD and Nate are discussing their case between themselves when CD remembers that she was going to call the medical examiner about Ashleigh’s pregnancy. She picks up the phone and dials.)
CD: Danny? (pause) Inspector De Lorenzo, how are you? (pause) Good, well listen, we were talking to some of the kids at school today and a young lady told us that our little princess, Ashleigh Hopkins, was pregnant. (pause) Yeah. You think you could substantiate that for me? (pause) Okay, I’ll be here for a while, or I’ll have my phone. Thanks. Bye.
Nate: And the verdict?
CD: Checking. He said if she was, she wasn’t very far along. But he’s gonna check.
Nate: Okay.
(Jinny and Magda have some difficulty locating the residence of Justin Watkins. They finally decide upon an apartment over a garage. They climbed the stairs and knocked.)
Voice: Who is it?
Jinny: SFPD. Open up.
Voice: (opening the door, teary eyed) Are you here about Peyton?
Jinny: Yeah. (flashes badge) Inspector Exstead. (points to Magda) Inspector Ramirez. You Justin Watkins? Can we come in?
Justin: Yes, and yes, come on in.
Jinny: I take it you’ve heard about her?
Justin: Yeah. Her mother called me this morning.
Jinny: I understand the two of you didn’t get along well.
Justin: We got along just fine. I sent money. That was it.
Magda: You never talked?
Justin: No. We didn’t. I mailed the money. We never saw each other, never talked. Until...
Magda: Until?
Justin: She called me the other day. She wanted to get together and talk. She asked me to meet her on a boat down at the dock. Said she wanted to talk.
Magda: You went in? How’d you get in?
Justin: Yes. I just walked in. There wasn’t anyone at the gate.
Jinny: What’d you talk about?
Justin: She wanted us to get back together and raise the baby. I just haven’t been ready for that responsibility.
Magda: You ever think that she wasn’t ready, either. You left her alone to do it all.
Justin: I don’t need a lecture from you, too, okay. I know I’m not perfect. I know I didn’t leave her in the ideal situation. But she was the mother of my baby. I loved her.
Jinny: So you left? Great way to show it.
Justin: We had done some talking about getting back together that day. She brought some pictures of little Cheyenne and I just fell in love with her. She looks just like me. Now, I’m not sure I’ll ever see her again. I know I couldn’t take care of her myself and ... (stops, fighting tears)
Jinny: What time did you leave the dock?
Justin: About eight o’clock. I offered to drive her home so she wouldn’t have to pay for a cab, but she said no. She wanted to stay and watch the sunset. She was alive when I left. I swear.
Jinny: (nods) Was there anyone else around when you left? Other boat owners, or just people walking around?
Justin: Just the security guard. He was making his rounds.
Magda: That’s it? No one else?
Justin: No one.
Magda: Did he see you?
Justin: Yes. He spoke. Just said he was making his rounds
and kept going.
(Jinny and Magda exchanged looks.)
Magda: Thank you. You’ll need to come down to the station and make a formal statement. We’ll be in touch.
Justin: (nods) Okay. When?
Magda: Within the next 48 hours. (he nods, they leave)
(Jinny and Magda walked to their car. They got in and Jinny turned to Magda.)
Jinny: He lied to us.
Magda: Who? Justin?
Jinny: No. The security guard.
Magda: Why? Because he said he didn’t see anybody? Justin could just as easily be lying about it. He was paying her an awful lot of money to keep her happy. Look at how he was living.
Jinny: People live like that by choice. (turns away, eyes on the road as she pulls out) Look at me. I want to talk to the security guard again.
Magda: Let’s talk to the captain about it. She what she has to say.
Jinny: What? She doesn’t trust my judgment anymore or what is it? You two conspiring behind my back, now?
Magda: Jinny. You’re overreacting.
Jinny: About what, Mag? You never used to question my judgment, so what?
Magda: Fine. We’ll talk to him again. Tomorrow. Let’s stop by the bar and get back to the station. Ben has a soccer game tonight, and I want to be there on time, for a change. You want to come?
Jinny: No, not tonight. I’m going to call Theodore tonight. Talk to him a little.
Magda: Okay.
(Jinny and Magda were silent on their way to the bar. Jinny pulled up out front and waited while Magda went inside and spoke to the owner. She wasn’t gone long before she returned. She got back in the car and Jinny drove off.)
Magda: Seems that the Warner’s were at the bar that night. Just as Mr. Warner had said. It seems that they are regulars there. Along with Brian Webb and the son Douglas. Seems Douglas made appearance there later in the night, about midnight or one, he said, looking pretty proud of himself. Had a few beers with old pop and left with him.
Jinny: Figures. So, what? We add him to our list to question again?
Magda: Sounds like a good idea to me.
(Back at the station CD and Nate finally get the phone call they’ve been waiting for as Jinny and Magda return. They can tell that CD is upset when she hangs up the phone. Kate sees Jinny and Magda return and comes out of her office. Her first question is directed toward CD and Nate though.)
Kate: CD, what have you guys got so far?
CD: We went to the high school this morning. None of the kids that she hung out with really knew anything about her. She was a good friend, but never really talked a lot about herself. Too busy helping everyone else out.
Nate: Yeah, but as we were leaving, there was this girl that came out of nowhere. Said that she was next in line for head cheerleader. Said she knew that Ashleigh killed herself because she was pregnant and couldn’t tell daddy. Said she was really good friends, but never shed a tear.
CD: You’re really into people crying aren’t you?
Nate: Well, I mean, I know that at that age, all the girls are emotional. They cry over everything. Don’t they? They did when I was growing up. She seemed like she was more interested in getting her out of the way than why she killed herself.
CD: Well, that was the medical examiner, uterus tests positive for fetal tissue. Maybe six to eight weeks gestation. Hard to believe that she killed herself over something like that.
Nate: I don’t think she killed herself. I think she had a little help from someone who didn’t want a baby.
Kate: The boyfriend?
Nate: Or someone who really liked him and couldn’t get him to give her the light of day.
Jinny: Maybe it was a conspiracy. They wanted to get together, but Ashleigh being pregnant was standing in the way.
Magda: Yeah, well, this girl’s (holding up case file) boyfriend seemed to be crying enough of a river for him and your girl, too. But he hasn’t seen her in 11 months, since he found out she was pregnant. Says that he was with her that night, on the boat at the dock. She said it belong to a friend.
Jinny: Yeah, that friend being Brian Webb, romanticist extraordinaire. He says that he went out with her. Met her in a bar. Said that she gave her name as Heather, and said she was 22. He took her out on the boat about three weeks ago. Justin also says that the security guard, David Green, did see them, and just waved them off while doing rounds. He said that she was still alive when he left her at about eight o’clock. Security guard says that he must have gone to relieve himself about that time, because he didn’t see nothing. I’m putting my finger on Green.
Magda: I’m not so sure that maybe the boyfriend didn’t do it, he was paying her a lot of money for that baby, and feeling pretty guilty about it.
Nate: What about Brian Webb. He admitted to seeing her. He never go out with the same girl twice? Maybe he found out she lied about her age and everything.
Jinny: (laughing) I don’t think Brian Webb cares about age as long as the ability is still there.
Magda: Didn’t you turn him down? Maybe she did, too. The security guard didn’t see Justin there, maybe he didn’t see Webb there, either. Girl got smart. Didn’t want to be his entertainment for the night, and he wasn‘t happy with that answer.
Jinny: Maybe. We’ll have to ask a few more questions.
CD: Yeah, we’re thinking of bring the boyfriend and this girl we talked to in here. Thinking maybe if they see each other in passing, they’ll stumble, thinking the other is gonna say something out of the way.
Kate: Let’s call it a day and start fresh tomorrow.
(They all bade each other goodnight and went their separate ways. CD, home to her now lonely home. She was thinking about how she needed a pet or something to keep her company. Nate to the Anchorside, to have dinner and browse the selection of available women. Jinny took Magda home to get ready for Ben’s ballgame, and she, herself headed home to await the call of one very important person.)
:crazy: Okay, now it's time to rack your brains a little. Here's the challenge. This story will be ending in a few more posts. In order to get the rest of the story, you must tell me whodunnit. Or at least who you think dunnit and why.
In Jinny and Magda's case, was it :
.The husband, Mr. Warner? He got rather defensive didn't he? Maybe he just didnt have time to dispose of the body before the security guard came back.
The friend, Brian Webb? He likes to take his dates on midnight boat rides. He isn't any easy one to say no to, he admits that himself.
The Son, Douglas Warner? They conveniently neglected to tell hte inspectors about him for obvious reasons. He does have a history of domestic violence with two prior girlfriends.
The boyfriend, Justin Watkins? He was awfully upset by her death considering the fact that he hadn't seen her in almost a year. He was paying for something that he didn't necessarily want to call his own.
The security guard, David Green He did conveniently miss the victim and the assailant, or were there any?
CD and Nate's case:
Just tell me who you think did it and why.
You can post it here, or e-mail me at dovesong25812@yahoo.com. If you catch me online, my screen names are TeddysValentine (AIM) or dove_song25812 (yahoo). ;)
After I get a few responses, I'll post some more
Thanks chicks
dovesong 01-23-2002, 05:18 PM Well, here's little more, hope it isn't too disappointing.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(CD and Nate pulled up in front of the high school the following day. Following them was Jinny and Magda. The four were stopped at the door when they set the metal detectors off. The guards allowed them through only after thoroughly examining each of their badges. They walked into the office, take no bull.)
Sec.: Inspectors, may I help you?
Nate: We’d like to speak to Mr. Harris, please.
Sec.: I’m sorry, he isn’t available right now. He’s in a meeting and he’s asked not to be disturbed.
Jinny: (pushing her way passed CD and Nate) Yeah, well, see, he needs to get un-busy, now.
Sec.: Excuse me? And who are you?
Jinny: (shows badge) Inspector Exstead. And we’re not students you can brush off. We have official business here. Now, you can let us in...(pause, waits for a response then walks to the door) or I can let myself in.
(Jinny opened the door to the interior office with the protests of the secretary. What Jinny saw was enough to make her nauseated. CD, Nate, and Magda were not far behind Jinny. They stopped dead in their tracks, as well. Standing before them was principal Harris. With him, and looking scared to death and next to tears, was one half-dressed, Kiersten Richardson. It took a few minutes for the image to sink into their minds.)
Jinny: SFPD (show badge) You’re under arrest for sexual assault, if nothing else.
Harris: What? You can’t come in here like this! (stepping toward Jinny)
Nate: (intercepts) I wouldn’t. She’s been pretty grouchy lately. I think it’s her time of the month, and you know how moody they get. Unpredictable really.
(Nate turns the man around and hand cuffs him while Magda retrieves the young girls clothes. Jinny turned around and walked out. CD was not far behind her, speaking to the secretary.)
CD: I want Jeffrey Kingsley out of class, now!
Sec.: Yes, ma’am. I’m getting him, now.
(She pulls a card from the card file and takes off down the hall. She returns shortly with Jeffrey. He looks confused until Jinny shows him her badge and informs him he’s coming to the station.)
Jeffrey: I thought you were finished with me...
Jinny: New info just presented itself. You’re going to the station for more questioning.
(Just then, Nate pushed Principal Harris through his office, reading him his rights. Following closely behind was Magda and a crying Kiersten. Jeffrey advances toward her and they embrace. Everyone in the room was silent, but exchanging knowing looks.)
(Jinny and Magda took Jeffrey and Kiersten in their car, while Nate and CD took Mr. Harrs. Jinny threw Magda her keys and walked around to the passenger side of the car and got in without a word. Magda looks at the keys in disbelief. Jinny never let anybody drive her car. She shrugs it off and gets in. She definitely wasn’t going to let this opportunity pass her up. She hops in and heads toward the station. She glances over at Jinny while stopped at a light, but Jinny was somewhere far off and Magda didn’t want to make a scene.)
(Shortly Magda pulls up behind Nate and CD. Magda and Jinny get out and escort their charges to separate questioning rooms. They then returned to Kate’s office to discuss everything while lawyers are being called and fingerprints were being done.)
Kate: What’s this? Buy two get one free day?
CD: You won’t believe it. We walked into the office and there he was, undressing one very frightened, Kiersten Richardson.
Kate: (eyes wide) Really. Have you talked to her about it?
CD: No, we’re waiting on her parents and a lawyer.
Nate: We were beginning to lean toward her as a suspect. I guess there’s still that possibility.
Raina: (knocks) M E just called. They got a sample of the fetal tissue for DNA testing, if you need to go that route.
Kate: Yeah, why don’t you have lab come up and draw some blood from Mr. Kingsley and Mr. Harris. Send it to the medical examiner for a STAT review.
Raina: I’m on it.
(They discuss a few more technicalities and break for lunch. Teddy has left Raina with about four messages for Jinny to call him when she took her lunch break. He finally tired of waiting for her call and came to check on her, himself. He found her sitting at her desk head down. He walked up behind her and started to briskly rub her shoulders. He could tell she was tense, but she started to relax a bit and finally sat up.)
Teddy: Hey, what’s up? I called you like a dozen times.
Raina: Four times, to be exact, (smiling) but who’s counting.
Jinny: Sorry. We’ve been busy.
Teddy: Oh, yeah? (looks around at everyone sitting) If this is the hardest you work, can I change jobs?
Jinny: (smiles, half-heartedly)
Teddy: Lunch? (he puts his arms around her waist)
Jinny: Um, you know, (she pats his chest) I’m not really hungry. Can I take a rain check?
Teddy: No. If you’re not hungry, then let’s take a walk in the square.
(Teddy could tell that something was bothering Jinny. He grabbed he jacket from the back of her chair took her arm, pulling her towards the door. She gave up protesting and followed behind him.)
CD: (smiling) I take it they’re not over?
Magda: Seems that way.
Nate: (watching Jinny leave) Too bad.
CD: (laughs, slaps Nate playfully)
(CD, Nate, Magda, and the Captain walked across the street to the Anchorside. They sat down and ordered their meals. Their conversation is light.)
(Teddy and Jinny walked around the square, quietly. Teddy finally put his arm around Jinny and guided her to an empty bench. They are quiet for several more minutes before Teddy finally asks.)
Teddy: What’s wrong, Jinny? (she shakes her head) Oh, come
on. Talk to me.
Jinny: (she looks up at him and smiles. She isn’t sure she’s ready to talk about it yet) Nothing really. Just that case, got to me a little. I’ll be all right. I’m glad to know you care, though. Thanks.
Teddy: You’re welcome. (leans down, they kiss) You know you can always talk to me.
Jinny: I know. (smiles) I’m okay, now. I think I jut needed some air. Thanks.
Teddy: Hungry now?
Jinny: (smiling) No, but thanks.
Teddy: Rough case you’re working on, huh?
Jinny: Not even my case, but they’re all rough right now. Yeah.
Teddy: Can’t drink the pain away, now, huh? Not numb to society’s tragedies anymore? (smiles teasingly, and puts a finger on her chest) Finding out you really have a heart down there?
Jinny: (smiles, takes his hand) Something like that, yeah.
Teddy: (nods) I hand an uncle that drank like that. I never told you that. He was in an auto accident and with his wife and two kids. They died. Almost killed him. Wasn’t his fault, but he blamed himself. Couldn’t stand coming home to a quiet house and sleeping in an empty bed. He ended up getting drunk once and putting a bullet in his head.
Jinny: (winces, turns away)
Teddy: Oh, hey, I’m sorry. I forgot about...
Jinny: That’s okay.
Teddy: Want to talk about it?
Jinny: No. Not now. Maybe one day.
Teddy: (nods) Just so you know you can.
Jinny: Yeah, I know. (turns back and kisses him) It’s not you, I’m just not ready.
(Jinny notices the others returning from the Anchorside, so she and Teddy get up and join them. They are greeted at the doors to the Felony Division by Raina, who was just coming to look for them.)
Raina: Hey guys, here’s the results of the DNA testing on the fetus and the fingerprints. and Jinny, Magda (hands them a piece of paper) I was coming after you. A couple just found another body in the woods at by the dock. Raped, stabbed, left for dead. She’s in a coma at the hospital. They don’t expect her to make it though. Officers are at the crime scene now.
Magda: (takes paper) Thanks. We’re on our way.

More later this evening.................
Babes_Cat 01-23-2002, 05:28 PM *Raises eyebrows* Nate a little jealous of Teddy? Hmmm......
LOL I LOVE IT HUN! MORE PLEASE!
dovesong 01-23-2002, 09:50 PM Gee, we're getting close to the end of this one, too. What am I gonna do?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Jinny and Magda leave shortly after that. The Captain, CD an Nate go down to question their suspects. Kiersten is first on their list.)
Kate: What did you mean when you told Inspectors De Lorenzo and Russo that Ashleigh didn’t deserve Jeffrey? She was a good kid.
Kiersten:They were always fighting. She didn’t think he was smart enough. They were always fighting too, cause she never had time to spend with him. She was always studying and going to the homeless shelter, or going to church. She even missed cheerleading practice a couple of times. he needed someone who could be there for him.
Kate: Yeah, God forbid the star football player not have girl on his arm all the time. Are you glad she’s dead?
Kiersten:(eyes downcast) I’m glad she’s out of the picture. I didn’t want her dead or anything. I just wanted Jeffrey to break up with her and he wouldn’t. And then she got pregnant. And I knew it wasn’t Jeffrey’s. He told me one night, she wouldn’t have sex with him. (sarcastically) God wouldn’t approve you know.
Kate: A person who can stand up for their convictions against the odds, is a strong person.
Kiersten:(rolls her eyes)
Kate: So you killed her. You’re fingerprints match those on the glass. Why’d you do it?
Kiersten:No. I didn’t kill her. He said it wouldn’t kill her. He said that it would just make her sleepy. That it would kill they baby, and she’d be sick for a while and the be okay.
CD: Who? Who said that? Jeffrey?
Kiersten:No. People made fun of him cause he was still a virgin. And it was okay with him, cause he loved her.
Kate: And you were jealous. So you killed her.
Kiersten:I didn’t do it! He told me it wouldn’t hurt her, just the baby.
Kate: We know who the baby belonged to. Do you?
Kiersten:(nods, looking down)
Kate: Who? Why?
Kiersten:The same man mine belongs, too. For the same reason he was going to hurt me today. I was going to tell. (sobbing) He told me, if I put that stuff in her drink and left that note on her dresser, he would leave me along. I didn’t want to kill her.
Nate: He lied.
Kiersten:He was going to take me to some, god forsaken place down on the other side of town, and make me have an abortion. That was just one last fling, ya know? He killed Ashleigh, because she refused to go. It’s a church thing, you know. He didn’t want anybody asking questions about the father, and all.
Kate: (nods and walks out of the room with CD and Nate)
(Jinny and Magda arrive on the scene at the dock a short time later. Jinny looks at Magda and takes a deep breath as she opens the car door and gets out. They walk through the gate and follow the bustle of the uniformed officers until they reach the crime scene itself. The body, of course, has already been removed and taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. Jinny and Magda are shown around the scene and informed that the witnesses are in the office along with the dock supervisor, and left on their own.)
(Jinny and Magda looked around but found nothing of real interest. Jinny did her best to avoid the sight of the blood left behind and the flies swarming around it. She had to admit to herself, her stomach was getting stronger. Perhaps she really could overcome the alcohol. She and Magda left the scene and walked toward the office.)
(Jinny and Magda opened the door just as a uniformed cop approached from behind. He hands them a hip pouch that, he informed, had been found about a hundred yards away from the body. Jinny takes the pouch from the officer and searches through its contents for a wallet. Finding one, she locates a driver’s license and reads the name to Magda and the dock supervisor.)
Jinny: Kimberly Ellen Singer; age 18, that would maker her 21 now. (to the super) Know her?
Super: Yes. she was the daughter of one of my patrons. She liked to run here in the early mornings.
Jinny: (curious, turns to the couple) You guys were running when you found her, right? (they nod) Lot of people run here?
Super: Not really. She liked to run here, because of the privacy.
Jinny: Who was the guard last night? He see anything?
Super: David Green. And I don’t know. You’d have to ask him.
(Jinny and Magda exchange cynical looks.)
Jinny: You can be sure we will. (looks to the couple) You two found the body?
Man: Um yeah. We own a boat here, too. We come here as often as we can get together, and run. We work different shifts, but we usually get together at least three times a week.
Magda: Was there anyone else around?
Man: No one. Not usually this early in the middle of a week. Weekends are a different story.
Jinny: I’m assuming you found the body and tried to locate the security guard to report it?
Man: Yes.
Jinny: Where was he?
Man: Here, in the office. He called the cops.
Jinny: He go check out the body?
Man: No. But he seemed to know where the body was, before I told him. I told him we had found a body, and he picked up the phone and told the police. Waved me off before I even told him where.
Jinny: You gave the uniformed officer your name and contact information?
Man: Yes.
Jinny: Good, we’ll be in touch.
(Jinny and Magda get in the car and pull out on the road. Jinny is concentrating way too hard, in Magda’s opinion. She doesn’t need to ask where Jinny is going. She already knows. She gets on her cell phone to check in with Captain McCafferty.)
Magda: Cap? Hey, it’s Magda. We just left the dock, haven’t visited the hospital yet, Jinny and I are thinkin’ of running by to visit David Green again, first. He was the security guard on duty last night. (pause, listening) Yeah, okay. (pause) Okay. Thanks, bye.
Jinny: (overheard the conversation) Please, Magda? Jinny’s thinking of running by there? I’m going whether you agree or the Cap agrees, or not. This guy did it. I know it.
Magda: Jinny, I don’t mean to doubt you. Why are you always so defensive now? We have always had to run our whereabouts by the captain. You know that as well as I do. You’re just paranoid, Jinny. So stop it. I still trust you. And so does the captain.
(Jinny was silent the rest of the way to David Green’s residence. She got out of the car, and walked to the house. She literally beats on the door.)
Jinny: SFPD, open up!
(CD, Nate and the Captain trail into the interrogation room that Mr. Harris and his lawyer have occupied for the last two hours. Nate walks in and sits in front of Mr. Harris.)
Nate: Mr. Harris. Care to explain to us what was going on in your office when we walked in?
Harris: She, um, was ... um, she can into my office and...
Nate: Told you she was pregnant?
Harris: What?! No!
Nate: Is that why you killed Ashleigh? Because she was pregnant?
Harris: Killed Ashleigh? No. I didn’t kill anybody.
Nate: No? She was carrying your child.
Harris: She what? My child? No.
CD: (throws a file toward Harris) DNA tests on the fetus Ashleigh was carrying and your blood test confirm that by an accuracy of 99.97%, you were the father of that child. I’m sure that when Kiersten’s baby is born, it will match as well.
Harris: They were both messing around with Jeffrey Kingsley. Test him.
Nate: We did. Negative. Doesn’t match Ashleigh’s baby. You do. Can’t argue with DNA testing.
Harris: Okay, fine. Yes, I did have a relationship with Ashleigh. She came to me asking me for help.
CD: Kiersten Richardson come to you asking for help, too?
Nate: What about the other two young ladies that got pregnant and got booted off the cheerleading squad? They were both pregnant too. We did some checking. They both had abortions at the same clinic that you were taking Kiersten to this evening.
Harris: (opens his mouth, but is cut off)
CD: What would have happened to Kiersten if she had refused to have an abortion? Who would you have forced to kill her?
Harris: She told you that? She told you I made her kill Ashleigh?
Nate: (nods) You’ve already got two strikes against you. Do we need to pull those other girls in here and ask them to rehash their stories, too?
(Mr. Harris sighs and his shoulders slump. They knew. He couldn’t fight the truth. He knew that.)
(Jinny and Magda are standing at the front door of the house, waiting for someone to answer the door. They hear a commotion inside the house. Jinny draws her weapon, for the first time since her return. She’d forgotten what it had felt like. She indicated that Magda was to remain in the front and watch the opposite side of the house. Magda nods her understanding and Jinny proceeds cautiously around the side of the house, avoiding the windows. When she had advanced about three fourths of the way around the house, she pauses, because she thought she’d heard something. She waits a few more seconds and continues slowly. She inches up to the corner of the house and peeks around. There is David Green, uncovering a motorcycle. Jinny rounds the corner of the house, gun aimed on him.)
Jinny: SFPD! Freeze!
(Mr. Green stops, hands up. He turns his head just enough to see Jinny)
Green: Afternoon, Inspector. How are you this fine afternoon?
Jinny: Going somewhere? (advancing, slowly)
Green: Thought it was a good day to work on the hog. Get it in good shape for the summer.
Jinny: Got a few more questions for you. Want to turn around? (almost there)
Green: Sure.
(He started to turn around but instead, he grabbed a tool and threw it at Jinny and ran. Jinny turned in time to avoid being hit in the face, but the wrench caught her in the back of the head. Jinny stumbled momentarily, but caught her balance and ran after him, holstering her gun as she ran.)
(Mr. Green was in the process of scaling a fence when Jinny caught up with him. She grabbed him by the pants and by the back of his jacket. His momentum was so great when she caught him that he pulled her down with him. He was getting up when she knocked his feet out from under him with her own. He fell face first, but by the time Jinny could get to her fee, he was up and swinging at her. he caught her in the cheek. Jinny stumbled again, she was beginning to loose her sense of balance from the first blow to the head. She knew she had to do something fast of she was going to lose it.)
(Jinny grabbed him by the back of his shirt again with both hands and threw him against the garage. He turned to come after her and she kicked him with all her might, square in the stomach. He fell to his knees, holding his stomach and making a great effort to breath.)
(Magda came around the side of the house to find Jinny bent over resting her hands on her knees, gasping for breath. Mr. Green has passed out by now. Jinny looks up to see Magda standing there.)
Jinny: (sarcastically) Great timing.
(Jinny falls down to her knees. She’s beginning to lose her orientation. She reaches up and feels the back of her head. She pulls her hand away and Magda, who has handcuffed David Green, gasps.)
Magda: Oh, my God, Jinny! Are you all right? What happened? You’re bleeding.
Jinny: I am? (looks at her hand) Oh, yeah, I am. (passes out)
HAHA! MORE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dovesong 01-24-2002, 05:09 PM Okay, I thought I'd wait until tomorrow to post the last of it, which, in essence I have, but I have decided to make the last post into two posts, so here's almost the last of it............
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Jinny wakes up to starch white sheets and a white room. Her vision is fuzzy and when she tries to sit up, her head throbs until she falls back down on the bed. The brightness of the room, causes her head to hurt, so she closes her eyes to it. She moans softly to her self and puts a hand up to her head. The minute she touches her face, she pulls back her hand in pain. She wasn’t aware there was anyone else in the room until Magda touches her arm and says her name. Startled, Jinny jumped, but regretted it afterwards.)
Jinny: What? (concentrating hard) Mag? Where am I?
Magda: You’re in the hospital. You got hit on the head and passed out. Are you okay?
Jinny: No, my head hurts. Can I go home now?
Magda: No. They’re moving you upstairs. You lost consciousness, so they’re keeping you overnight for observation.
Jinny: Damn. We still need to question that security guard again.
Magda: We did, Jinny. He’s the one that hit you. Don’t you remember? He ran? You chased him?
Jinny: (shaking her head, wincing, regretting it) No.
Doctor: (scaring Magda, she didn’t see him enter) Short term memory lost is common in a concussion with loss of consciousness. (walks to the bed, speaking to Jinny) We’re getting ready to move you upstairs. How are you feeling?
Jinny: You mean other than the fact that I have a headache? My head hurts.
Doctor: Gee, I’m not sure I’m qualified to treat that. Anything else?
Jinny: (ventures opening her eyes) My trigger finger is a little fidgety.
Doctor: (smiles) I’ll see what I can find.
(Jinny was moved from the emergency room to a private room, one of the many privileges afforded a police officer. She had had few visitors, at least that remembered, but Magda had remained the entire day. At 4:10 pm Teddy came rushing in, in a near panic state.)
Teddy: Oh, God, Jinny. I’ve been in court the entire day. I just heard. What happened? Are you all right?......Jinny?
Magda: (laughing) She’s asleep. They gave her something for pain about half and hour ago.
Teddy: What happened?
Magda: (laughing) Her job. (serious now) She got hit in the back of the head, pretty hard. That’s all we know, and she doesn’t remember anything. (Teddy’s eyes grew wide and he looked back at Jinny) Doc says that normal with a concussion.
Teddy: (nods) I’ll be back, okay.
(It’s been about an hour and Kate and CD have returned. Jinny is just beginning to wake up and is still pretty groggy from the medicine. Steven, the medical examiner comes in. Jinny looks up at the people around her. Her eyes stop at Steven.)
Jinny: (low, raspy voice) Am I dead?
Steven: (laughs) No. I heard you were here. I came to check up on our victim from this morning. She’s dead. All the forensics evidence points to David Green.
Jinny: (looking at Magda) Told ‘ya.
Kate: Yeah, we did some checking this afternoon. Seems he was a registered sex offender in the state of Washington, but failed to register in California. He’s got some pretty serious charges against him, including assaulting a police officer. We’re not going let the DA forget that one.
Magda: (laughs) I don’t think we have to worry about that.
Steven: I just wanted to say, hey. I’ll see ‘ya round. (leaves as Teddy comes back in, carrying a dozen white roses)
Magda: Wow.
Teddy: (smiles) It took me an hour to find a floral shop that had white ones.
Jinny: (squinting as Teddy came near) Do I know you?
Teddy: (pauses, Jinny smiles to reassure him) (lightly kisses her cheek) That help any?
Jinny: (shakes head) No.
Teddy: (bends down and kisses her on the lips, Jinny reaches up as he pulls away and pulls him back to her, still kissing him)
Jinny: (releases him) I think it’s coming back to me, yeah. (little smile)
Teddy: I understand you’re free this weekend. Got any plans?
Jinny: (big smile) No. But I have an idea.
Teddy: Oh? (Jinny nods)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
:confused: any ideas?:confused: Or do you even want to know?;)
dovesong 01-25-2002, 09:51 AM Well, I think I have kept you hanging long enough, though I could keep you here until I've slept (until about 4:00 this afternoon). But, I'll be nice and post it now........
(Teddy can see Jinny talking to the guy and slips him what he knows is a little cash. Teddy is curious until he sees the man nod and retreat quickly. He smiles as he watches her return and stand over him laying on their make-shift bed. He’s decided she had put a lot of work into this and has put all his qualms aside.)
Jinny: (smiling seductively) So what do you think?
Teddy: It’s different. That’s for sure. (he reaches a hand up to her and she takes it and joins him)
Jinny: (takes a deep breath)
(Jinny leans over and kisses him. He smiles at her. She begins to unbutton his shirt very slowly and kisses each bit of newly exposed skin. He sits up to aid her in removing his shirt. He puts his arms around her and pulls her close to him. She rests her head on his bare chest, listening to his heartbeat. She sits up removing her jacket and tossing it aside. Still sitting up, they gaze into each others’ eyes. All is quiet. He can see the reflection of the light in her eyes , yet it’s dark enough made it romantic, a room lit only by candles. He reaches over to kiss her softly, still weary of her head. His tenderness is met by an urgency that curbs his weariness. They kiss for several minutes.)
(Jinny pulls away long enough to remove her shirt, something she knew he would have done long ago, under different circumstances. Teddy’s eyes are wide, looking around.)
Teddy: Um, Jinny. (staring at her)
Jinny: We’re alone.
(Jinny reaches to unbutton his pants as she leans to kiss him again. He pulls away slightly so she plants a light kiss on his neck, then harder. He puts his hands on her shoulders and pushes her away. She moves his hands and pushes him backwards onto the bed.)
Teddy: Jinny...
Jinny: We’re alone.
Teddy: (glances in the direction the gentleman went) Jinny...
Jinny: He’ll stay put. (teasingly now) Are you nervous?
Teddy: (uncomfortable) This is new, um.....
Jinny: (quietly, kind of upset) You don’t like it?
Teddy: (looks at her for several seconds, traces her bra strap from her shoulder to her.....) Just, I don’t know........You’re sure we’re alone?
Jinny: (nods, chill bumps rising)
(The rest of their clothes were gone in short order. A few precisely placed kisses and the rest of Teddy’s worries were gone. Teddy and Jinny made love that night, for the second time in their relationship, like neither had ever before. They lay holding each other for a long time afterward, still undressed, talking quietly. Jinny finally acknowledged to herself that Teddy was everything she had hoped to find in a man, but never thought she would, and she was completely sober when she found him. She laughed.)
Teddy: What was that for?
Jinny: Just thinking.
Teddy: About what? Me?
Jinny: Yes, actually. (smiling)
Teddy: Good I hope.
Jinny: (smiling) Very good. (she leans to kiss him, he jumps and points upwards)
Teddy: Look!! A shooting star! ! (he looks at her) Make a wish.
Jinny: (thinks about it for a minute) No. You go ahead, (looks into his eyes) I have everything I ever wanted.
(Teddy smiles at Jinny as she kisses him. They make love for the second time that night. Teddy lays awake afterward, staring at Jinny. The lull of the boat on the water had rocked her to sleep. She shivers slightly from the chill in the air and cuddles closer to him. He pulls the cover up more tightly around her. The reflection of the moonlight on her hair, causes her red highlights to shine, and Teddy’s last thought before he, too, drifts off, is that he’s just found his bit of heaven here on earth.)
Okay, well that's the end, so let me know what you think...............
Babes_Cat 01-25-2002, 04:23 PM I loved it Michelle but ummm... when did they get on a boat? I'm sorry I just dont remember that
Esperanza 01-25-2002, 05:36 PM awww... that was a sweet ending. But when did they get on the boat?? But hey... that doesn't matter, it was still great!
dovesong 01-25-2002, 06:09 PM See guys, that's the good thing about the written word, you can have a surprise ending like that.........
Had it been on the show, it would have started and you would have immediately know they were on a boat.
But when reading it, you make all the assumptions that just because I've compared the light to a room lit only by candles, that they are in a room, lit only by candles.
But once you read on................
It's called the element of surprise, ladies. And GAWD wouldn't that be romantic, to be in the middle of the river, in the middle of the night, naked, and alone with the man of your dreams.........Ooooo chill bumps. (I'll leave it at that).
:D :D :D :D
