View Full Version : In some last season(1965-1966) episodes
rezny717 10-09-2011, 01:32 AM In the closing credits,it said "Created by Carl Reiner" and Produced by Bill Persky and Sam Denoff. While in others,it said "Produced and Created by Carl Reiner".Why was this?Did Carl Reiner and CBS have a disagreement or falling out ?Or what?
Etrulia63 10-09-2011, 01:17 PM Someone who knows more about the show can correct me on this if I'm wrong, but for a time in 1965, Carl Reiner temporarily left the show to work on a movie called "The Russians Are Coming." Bill Persky and Sam Denoff, who had been writing for the show for about three years and thus had been given a chance to "prove themselves," were trusted with the show until Carl came back. They produced about a dozen (?) episodes during that time, all of varying quality. I think the cast described those times as being hard, because everyone knew that only Carl was able to keep the show under control and consistently pump out great shows. :)

You are exactly right Etrulia63. Persky and Denoff took over running the show for 12 weeks while Carl Reiner was away filming "Russians" in Ft. Bragg, California.
rezny717 10-10-2011, 10:22 PM Thanks, I kind of figured that's what happened, because he WAS in 1966's "The Russians Are Coming! The Russians are Coming!"and he was good in that),but I always thought that the film was made AFTER "The Dick Van Dyke Show"ended.Anyway,in my opinion, one of the best episodes produced by Bill Persky and the late Sam Denoff, was 1966's "Bad Reception in Albany".
rezny717 10-10-2011, 10:54 PM And finally,of the last season episodes produced by Persky-Denoff,what are your favorites?
