Buddy Ebsen had all but retired when he was persuaded to play Doc Golightly, Holly's estranged husband from down South. His brief performance is said to have landed him the role of Jed Clampett on 'The Beverly Hillbillies,' which made him more famous than ever and extended his career by decades.

He was born just across the river from where I am.
Shortly before he died,he came back to see the house he grew up in,he had not seen it since he was a kid. The people who live there now gave him a tour of the inside,he was crying when he came out.

Yeah he played Doc, her husband that she married when she was like 14. The marriage ended soon after but according to Holly he wouldn't accept it. Comedy Freak (and those who haven't seen it), BAT is an amazing movie and worth renting. I absolutely LOVE Audrey Hepburn so I love this movie but it is a hard movie to follow, because it's so "vague". I doubt reading the book by Truman Capote would help because it differs so much from the movie. It took me several viewings of BAT to finally understand it, but I love it anyway.

Buddy Ebsen is awesome in the role, though. I didn't know that he won his role of Jed Clampett from being in BAT. I can see why, However!

I also didn't know he got the role of Jed Clampett because of that. I always thought he got it because he had played mountain men before-including Georgey Russell, Davey Crockets friend and partner in Walt Disneys "DAVEY CROCKETT"

(because of that, he was reluctant at first to take on the role of Jed)
