Take it as a sign that Midwest Plaza’s largest tenant intends to stick around for a while — the Minneapolis office tower will be renamed McGladrey Plaza next month.
McGladrey is exercising a naming-rights option in its four-year-old lease, according to officials at the Bloomington-based accounting and consulting firm and the property owner.

Tenants were notified of the change this week. New exterior signs, window banners, skyway markers and even the dual-tower building’s floormats will get the McGladrey treatment beginning in mid-June, said Brian Burg, the building’s longtime Northmarq general manager.
McGladrey did not pay extra for the naming rights when it negotiated its most recent lease in 2007, which runs through 2020.
“It gives us a lot of visibility in the community, particularly in the downtown Minneapolis area. Name recognition is a big deal to us,” said Mike Nelson, the firm’s managing partner for the Minneapolis office. “This is definitely us saying that we intend to stay in Minneapolis, in Minnesota for the long term.”
