Fox stalwart “The Simpsons” is in danger of seeing its long run end after this season, as TVWeek reported Wednesday. Now word has surfaced that the show’s six voice actors have been told they need to decide by Friday whether they will take steep pay cuts to continue on the show, TheWrap reports.

Fox only wants to continue "The Simpsons" for one more season, and only if it can cut costs by 25% to 30%, the story says, citing an executive close to the show. The current season is the show’s 23rd, so what’s being talked about now is the possibility of producing a season 24.

Producers have agreed to salary cuts to keep the program on the air, the story notes, and what Fox has in mind is a pay cut of 45% for the actors, as we reported Wednesday.

If a deal can't be reached, the current season will be the animated program's last, TheWrap’s piece says. Regardless of how the negotiations play out, however, Fox only wants one more season of the program, as the show is no longer profitable for the network, the story says.

That said, I wouldn't be sad if the show did, in fact, end. While I still watch it, it hasn't been "destination television" for me in well over a decade.

i still like the show and watch every new episode, I can't see me tuning in to FOX Sunday night without the Simpsons; hopefully they will see the benefit to its entire Sunday night lineup and take that into consideration with this decision.

I think that's exactly what the suits at Fox have in my mind. They want to end the show but don't want to deal with the fall-out so they're setting up the voice actors to look like the bad guys in all this. I notice it didn't say how much of a pay cut the producers took but I'm guessing it's much less than than 45% pay cut the voice actors are being asked to take.

I think it's time for "The Simpsons" to end.

They had a long run, and even though they surpassed "Gunsmoke"...they'll NEVER have 600+ episodes (which "Gunsmoke" has).
