Oklahoma City -- An Oklahoma City man was ticketed in late September for cursing, police said. The incident happened in the 4400 block of Northwest 50th Street, where an 82-year-old woman named Deloris Ward told officers she was confronted in a parking lot by 75-year-old Donald Ackerson. Ward said that after she parked her car, Ackerson began shouting at her. According to a police report, he cursed at the woman and told her, "Learn how to drive."

Deborah Ann Albarran, 50, told police that she witnessed the entire incident and heard Ackerson use words she deemed to be offensive. When police arrived, Ackerson said that Ward almost hit his car in the parking lot. Ackerson was cited for abusive language, which is a violation of Oklahoma City statute. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow told Eyewitness News 5 that while the statute is on the book, it is not used often.

Swearing in public is a state issue. Like the article says it is rarely enforced.

Most of the time it isn't the swearing per se that gets one in trouble, but the disorderly conduct that might be going on during a specific incident.
