View Full Version : Name TV shows that used sets from other TV shows
ThomasE 10-04-2011, 05:48 PM This should be a good one. I know that during one scene on the final episdoe of "Dallas", Gary and Val Ewing's house on Dallas spinoff "Knots Landing" was used in a scene. On Knots Landing, the living room set had double doors. On "Dallas" when the set was used, it had one door with fake wall padding around it. LOL.
I know of other but want to give you guys a chance. So, post your observations, please.
Marvo301 10-04-2011, 06:06 PM What's Happening used the same set for the Thomas home that was used for the Sanford home on Sanford and Son.
Regulus 10-04-2011, 07:41 PM Irwin Allen did this all the time in his series. Props and Sets can be seen repeatedly in Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants, as well as in the Movies City Beneath the Sea & The Towering Inferno. He also used a lot of Stock Footage in his series from various movies.
The pilot episode of Hangin' with Mr. Cooper used the Growing Pains set. if I recall correctly, this was referenced at the end of the episode in a walk-on gag by Alan Thicke.
treky 10-05-2011, 12:09 AM I remember seeing an episode of "MANNIX" once that used the living room from "THE BRADY BUNCH" in a couple scenes.
Once on "GIDGET" she went to someones house and their living room was the Stevens living room from "BEWITCHED".
Once on "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" Tony quit NASA and took an office job somewhere. Later Jeannie was showing Tony at his job, and he was in Darrins office from "BEWITCHED".
treky 10-05-2011, 12:10 AM Irwin Allen did this all the time in his series.
Irwin Allen was known for doing that a lot.
tiredmike59 10-05-2011, 12:13 AM Star Trek swiped a lot of stuff from the old Outer Limits series.
treky 10-05-2011, 12:45 AM the "STAR TREK" episode "Miri" used the set of Mayberrys main street from "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW"
Regulus 10-05-2011, 07:20 AM I wouldn't really call this a "Set" (I Guess you could call it Stock Footage), but in part two of the five-part Episode "The Disappearance" from season 10 of Lassie Timmy and his Father are looking for the dawg from an airplane (They were separated from her after a boat they were on capsized during a storm). When you see an exterior shot of the aircraft they are flying in, you see the plane from the ZIV Series Ripcord.
gilligan fanatic 10-05-2011, 07:27 AM Two episodes of GI during dream sequences used the Gunsmoke set. The Lost in Spain three parter from Family Affair used the "To Rome with Love" set.
old grouch 10-05-2011, 10:13 AM All of the old Screen Gems sitcoms are famous for recycling old interior and exterior sets from their other shows. It's one reason that these shows are so fun to watch. The exterior shots were filmed at the Columbia Ranch.
On 'Bewitched', the interior of the Kravitzes house is the Stone's house on 'The Donna Reed Show', while the exterior also belonged to the Partridge Family. The Tate's kitchen also belonged to Jeannie and Tony.
The kitchen used on 'Gidget' was the same one used on 'Hazel', and the living room sets on both shows look simular.
The exterior house used on 'Father Knows Best' is the same house used on 'I Dream of Jeannie'.
And on an episode of 'The Partridge Family' when Keith drops off his date, he drops her off at the Stephens house.
treky 10-05-2011, 05:51 PM didn't "THE PATRIDGE FAMILY" and "MY 3 SONS" use the same house interior? I think I read that somewhere.
Schmoopie 10-05-2011, 06:02 PM Frasier used some of the Cheers sets every once in a while. From what I read the two sets were housed together in the same studio. Makes sense.
oz615 10-05-2011, 07:57 PM The kitchen in short lived 1982 tv show It Takes Two is almost the same one used 3 years later on the Golden Girls
boechsner 10-05-2011, 09:21 PM In the 4th Season episode of The Golden Girls, You Gotta Have Hope, the locker room used is the same locker room used for the waitresses on the 80s sitcom, It's a Living.
Soap, Benson, It Takes Two, Hail to the Chief, It's a Living, The Golden Girls, Nurses and Empty Nest had the same production company back in the day and the same sets were often re-used or slightly re-arranged between series.
treky 10-06-2011, 01:34 AM the exterior of the Cleavers second house on "LEAVE IT TO BEAVER" was also used years later for Dr. Welbys home/office on "MARCUS WELBY: M.D."
andress_jade 10-06-2011, 01:53 PM The basement set from the Cosby Show was used on an episode of Third Rock From the Sun.
According to a friend of mine the living room set from Happy Days was used in the Drew Carey Show as Drew's living room.
megamanj2004 10-06-2011, 02:44 PM On the 4th season episode of Good Times, the one where Thelma was dating a African guy who later turned out to be a Polyagamist, they used the apartment set from The Jeffersons.
I don't know if The Miller Boyett shows used parts of the sets from each others' shows. I noticed the kitchen set on Family Matters has nearly the same layout as the kitchen from The Hogan Family w/ new paint jobs and new appliances and stuff.
ajgenard 10-07-2011, 01:22 AM Frasier used some of the Cheers sets every once in a while. From what I read the two sets were housed together in the same studio. Makes sense.
Although both shows were filmed on the same sound stage, I don't see how that is possible. When Cheers ended they took the whole set down and stored it for future museum purposes since the show was such a hit. It was on display at the Hollywood Entertainment Museum until it closed in 2007. http://www.seeing-stars.com/Museums/HollywoodEntertainment.shtml
Props and other decor from occasionally-used sets (like Melville's restaurant upstairs) were most likely recycled and used on several other productions since that is common practice. But outright saying Frasier used some of Cheers sets doesn't really jive unless you could provide some specifics. I don't mean to come across a smartass, just trying to clarifying lol.
factsoflife 10-12-2011, 03:13 AM I'm pretty sure that Donna's house on "That 70's Show" was the exact same interior set used on "Blossom" at least the kitchen is the same, with different wallpaper and cabinets.
broadmoor 10-12-2011, 01:58 PM When you know which studios were responsible for different shows, you can start spotting lots of examples. There was a 1st-season episode of "Mission: Impossible" which utilized the apartment set (altered a bit, of course) from "Family Affair," both shot at Desilu. There's a "Honey West" episode that used the lagoon area from "Gilligan's Island." And I believe there's an "Addams Family" episode in which a neighbor's den is quite likely from the "Mister Ed" set. Lots of Screen Gems examples, including the "Gidget" one with the "Bewitched" set, which I believe was already mentioned. There's also an episode of "Michael Shayne" which shows a stock clip of what was soon to be known as the Clampett mansion from "Beverly Hillbillies." The front of the Munsters house, on the Universal lot, was shown on a 1963 "Wagon Train" episode, which coincidentally guest-starred Beverly Owen, before she debuted as Marilyn.
Always fun to keep an eye out for these things, for us vintage-tv buffs!
ThomasE 10-12-2011, 03:01 PM I know for sure that the set of Family Matters was used in the pilot of the FOX sitcom Living Single. W When the show was picked up, a new set was built. The set of Growing Pains was used on Hanging with Mr. Cooper pilot's episode. Alan Thicke even made an appearance in the teaser scene of the Cooper show. The show's star Mark Curry told thicke he was wondering why there was a picture of the cast on the set. LOL.
factsoflife 10-12-2011, 11:38 PM For it's first several seasons, talk show "The View" used a set that was left-over from the canceled ABC daytime soap "The City". It was an empty loft that had been used as the setting for the brilliant but short-lived soap.
Timoth26 10-17-2011, 11:03 PM I thing The Lucy Show they reused some props from I Love Lucy. The bank office Lucy was working in one the episode "Lucy Is A Kangaroo For A Day" is the same office she and Mr. Mooney worked in later in the California era.
Sammy Reed 10-18-2011, 11:42 AM The one-episode wonder "Co-Ed Fever" used what would later be the set of "Facts of Life"!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClD8Fidcd_k ("")
ThomasE 10-23-2011, 06:54 PM The Living room set from show "According to Jim" looks very similar to the one used on "Boy Meets World". An episode of "A Different World" where Billy Dee Williams guest starred had a basement looking quite similar to the Huxtable's basement on parent sitcome "The Cosby Show".
ryan423 10-23-2011, 08:35 PM The Living room set from show "According to Jim" looks very similar to the one used on "Boy Meets World".
I'm pretty sure it's the same set with some revamping done!
Sammy Reed 10-23-2011, 11:32 PM The one-episode wonder "Co-Ed Fever" used what would later be the set of "Facts of Life"!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClD8Fidcd_k ("")
And come to think of it, I think they used the same lettering for the credits that would be used on mid-late 80's "Facts of Life"!
factsoflife 10-25-2011, 07:38 PM I'm pretty sure it's the same set with some revamping done!
And actually, before BMW used it, it was the set for the sitcom "All American Girl" starring Margaret Cho.
megamanj2004 10-31-2011, 05:43 PM I noticed that parts of the set from the horrid 2001 revival of Card Sharks were re-used for Whammy! The All-New Press Your Luck, most noticeably the background behind Todd Newton.
lkeriegrl 11-29-2014, 08:41 PM The kitchen in the new ABC sitcom Cristela looks very familiar. Anyone? Maybe King of Queens?
treky 11-29-2014, 11:00 PM scenes from 2 episodes of STAR TREK and a scene in at least 1 episode of THE UNTOUCHABLES were filmed on the set of the main street of Mayberry from THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW.
Mace Dolex 11-30-2014, 02:20 AM Exterior high school setting of the original Beverly Hills 90210 were used again on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, both shows were airing in the 90's but BH 90210 was into the college years by that point.
comedyfreak 11-30-2014, 05:13 AM Batman also filmed exteriors on the Desilu lot where Mayberry was used. Also the movie Brian's Song the living room was the from Stephens house.
treky 12-01-2014, 01:43 AM THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN also did.
factsoflife 12-06-2014, 12:06 AM I believe many of the sets once used on Saved By The Bell (mainly the main high school hallway and staircase) have been reused by shows such as "That's So Raven" and other Disney Channel shows.
Blackout 12-06-2014, 12:53 AM The pilot episode of Hangin' with Mr. Cooper used the Growing Pains set. if I recall correctly, this was referenced at the end of the episode in a walk-on gag by Alan Thicke.
HOLY CRAP, no way!

Many of the Screen Gems houses were also used on "Desperate Housewives" and became part of Wisteria Lane:

Home of Paul and Mary Alice Young.
The legendary second home of the Cleavers on Leave It To Beaver.
Michael Buble filmed the video for his song "It's A Beautiful Day" outside in the same neighborhood.
WhystleStop 10-21-2015, 09:14 PM I was trying to find out if the set for The Goldbergs is from Roseanne.
andress_jade 10-22-2015, 01:07 AM There was an episode of The Golden Girls where Sophia and Blanche were at the mall. They became victims of The Pigeon Drop while they were there. But the thing I noticed when I watched that episode that the mall set is the same mall set used in Roseanne or at least similar. The reason I say that is because the big department store that they are sitting outside of is called The Ultimate and that was the same store used in Roseanne when they were at the mall.
treky 10-22-2015, 01:15 AM the Cleavers second house in LEAVE IT TO BEAVER was also used as DR. Welbys home/office in MARCUS WELBY, M.D.
treky 10-22-2015, 01:17 AM once on an episode of MANNIX the set of the Bradys living room from THE BRADY BUNCH was used.
treky 10-22-2015, 01:20 AM the fountain in the opening of FRIENDS was used in a lot of Screen Gems shows, like BEWITCHED.
treky 10-22-2015, 01:23 AM in an episode of GOMER PYLE: U.S.M.C. he was walking down the street in one scene and passes by the Taylor house from THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW
treky 10-22-2015, 01:27 AM in the opening of the black-and-white episodes of I DREAM OF JEANNIE and at least 2 episodes (I'm sure there's more though) the Stevens house from BEWITCHED is seen.
Earlier this week, I watched a clip from the mid-90s sitcom Dave's World. Is it just me, or was Dave's kitchen and living room also used on Yes, Dear a few years later?
