It looks like The Simpsons—20th Century Fox Television’s multibillion-dollar cash cow, the anchor of the Fox network’s Sunday prime-time schedule, and the longest-running sitcom in the history of broadcasting—might stop production after the current 23rd season ends next spring.

The reason is a negotiating impasse between the studio and the six principal actors who voice the beloved characters on the animated series that hilariously satirizes middle-class Midwestern angst.

Difficult bargaining is nothing new for the show, which was created by James L. Brooks and Matt Groening. Fox studio execs have occasionally threatened to replace uncooperative cast members with sound-alike actors. But for the first time in nearly a quarter century of haggling, the executives have insisted that if the cast doesn’t accept a draconian 45 percent pay cut, The Simpsons will die an abrupt death as a first-run series.

A Fox Television spokesman had no comment by late Monday night.

Not the end of the world if this happens. The series had a great run an 23 is a good number of seasons to end on.

Very true, but with that said, it would be really sad to see such a longtime institution like this show end on such a sour note. The ending should be celebrated.

I agree. The Simpsons should be celebrated considering how long its been on. I mean its been on for a lot of peoples lifetimes. Im 29 and I grew up on the show and so have thousands of other people. I just think if, and thats a big if, if they cancel The Simpsons they should get at least a proper sendoff.

I feel that I missed so much of this historical show. :( When I was a kid my parents didn't really let me watch this mainly due to the adult humor and language. ( I was only 5 years old at the time it aired as a regular prime-time show back in 1989). Anyway, I hope that FOX and it's voice-actors can work out their differences, but if the can't I agree that the Simpsons have had an excellent run and if the show must end, though it would be sad it wouldn't be the death of me.
