October 4th, 1931 - The comic strip "Dick Tracy" made its debut in the Detroit Daily Mirror. The strip was created by Chester Gould.

...paid tribute to Tracy by having Dick make a special appearance on the day of his anniversary. Ironically, the paper that was the "flagship" of the strip- the New York DAILY NEWS- hasn't published "Dick Tracy" in years.
