Not to offend anyone who loves this episode, but if the proposal was done differently, where would you have had it done???

1) still at the Montana
2) Frasier's apartment
3) Cafe Nervosa
4) The Roof of Elliot Bay Towers where they had their first date
5) at a fancy restaurant
6) while dining at the Space Needle
7) at Niles work office
or someplace else

The rooftop would have been very romantic. I could see that happening, but honestly I loved how it was done. B/c for all of Niles' planning, all Daphne would've really wanted is for him to ask. :) And the fact that he did it even while she was sick and not looking her best makes it even more romantic. *Sigh*

I agree, Kristen all though I have to admit that the scenes with Frasier trying to get all of the 'extras' out of The Montana during the proposal took away some of the romance. It was almost as though the romance was pushed to the back while that other stuff was going on. Of course when it finally did happen it was wonderful, but I think it could have been a lot more romantic had they shown some of those scenes up close. I loved it when Niles was telling Daphne that she was the most beautiful creature he'd ever seen ( I know I have the words wrong, but I'm not in a place where I can watch it right now!), but I would have loved to have seen her face when he was saying all those sweet things to her.

I do like the fact that he proposed at the Montana though but honestly before I saw this episode I could have sworn that he proposed at Frasier's. That would have been really romantic-like on the balcony in front of Martin and Frasier but probably not in the living room since another proposal took place there a few seasons earlier.

I don't think it would've worked to have it at Frasier's either, since Donny proposed to her there. It might've made Niles feel a little uncomfortable, thinking back to the heartbreak of that moment.

I liked the episode. :) I think Niles' apartment was a good place for it since it became their apartment.

That's very true and the only reason I mentioned Frasier's apartment (besides the fact that it's where they met) is because I'd seen clips of the proposal (just the part where Daphne throws her arms around Niles) in videos on Youtube but it looked like they were at Frasier's house. I like it better that he did it at his apartment.

I loved the way Niles proposed to her even though she was sick as a dog. The tears in his eyes and the way he asked her and then Daphne's reaction. The tears in her eyes and the smile on her face as she accepted and wrapped her arms around him. Just lovely. I even teared up a bit myself. I loved how he found every inch of her beautiful as he described her toes, her knees, her fingers, her arms, her shoulders...just sweet. He loved everything about her. :)

I completely agree with the way you've worded this. I loved how he was telling her how beautiful she was. That whole thing was just so meltworthy! Definitely the most unique proposal I've ever seen!

I can love this episode simply because it exists as it is, but I do think there are some things that they could have done differently too. The acting was great as usual, and DHP sure knows how to turn on the charm, but I do like the idea of more scenes at closer range. I have chosen to believe that the message the writers were sending is that Niles and Daphne didn't need all the bells and whistles and that all they really wanted and needed was each other... same reasoning as why they had them elope instead of having a wedding. The other side of my head though hopes they didn't expend all their energy on Donny and Daphne (in the proposal and the wedding) and got lazy and didn't want to do it all again. Sometimes that's what it feels like to me.

I think the episode is mostly okay, but apparently we're supposed to think Niles is speaking off the top of his head when he was asking her, and I think if they had run with that and had really tried and put their heads together on it they could have come up with something that was just as simple (since she was sick) but was unequivocally, uniquely Niles. Something that only he would do and we could recognize it as that. That's what I would have liked.
But like I said, I love it just because it is, too. :)

I guess he figured that he waited seven long years to give her his heart and ask her to be his wife that he wanted to make it something that she'd never forget.

I don't think I mentioned this before but when I used to watch videos on Youtube that people did of clips of Niles and Daphne (before I saw the actual episode) it looked like he was starting to ask her and then as soon as he pulled out the ring she threw her arms around him. Now what he said to her was completely romantic and wonderful but just thinking bout that scenario makes me melt!
