THR: News Corp. COO Chase Carey made headlines recently when he said the company would consider a Simpsons network. What's the latest there?

Reilly: We're coming to a crossroads where we want to keep The Simpsons going, and we're in negotiations right now, but we've been sitting on a big library of episodes [that are locked into long-term syndication deals]. We're having conversations with [executive producer] Jim Brooks trying to figure out what the next chapter looks like. I certainly don't want it to be on my watch where we have to make that change.

It still has some good new episodes from time to time, but it really should have ended a long time ago. On the other hand, might as well shoot for 25 seasons.

Simpsons have been around almost as long as Fox has. I'll be sad to see it go, but maybe it's time for The Simpsons to end.

The real problem with The Simpsons is they for the most part, recycle so many storylines nowadays. Hey, I don't fault them for that, but what do you expect after 23 YEARS?!?

I'll admit the show isnt the same as it once was. I mean I watch the new episodes but if they replay them, I dont go out of my way to watch them again unless its really funny. The older episodes I can watch all the time and not get sick of them.

I'm torn. I love the Simpsons and think the last couple of years have been great improvements, but I also know at some time it will HAVE to end. There's only so many stories you can tell about a family and a town without repeating yourself, and really, 23 years is pushing it, to say the least.

Maybe a couple more seasons, with an eye to planning a finale? 25 years would be a great way to wrap things up.

The thing is that there are a couple of storylines that they can do.

They have the Flanders/Edna story

How about Lisa and Millhouse going out on a date?

How about a story about the family members of some of the other characters? What about Moe, Barney, Mrs. K, Ned Flanders etc.? What I mean by that is how about Moe's mom and dad or Barney's mom and dad etc.?

I'll give you some zany ideas. How about the Isotopes getting involved with MLB? You could have Homer shoot his mouth off about how great the Isotopes are and mistakenly challenges any MLB team.

How about a Simpsons reality show episode? Not like the episode in which Ricky Gervais wrote about how Homer and Marge swapped partners. Just a reality show about the Simpsons.

I know you might do one of these:rolleyes: or one of theseohno: but I am kind of reaching for ideas. What do you think?

Honestly, I think those are all good ideas, particularly the ones involving long time storylines.

I'll throw it out for further debate; what stories would we all like to see 'wrapped up' before the Simpsons closes out it's run? I'd like to see Barney REALLY quit drinking, a new mayor elected for Springfield, Grandpa Simpson find an S.O. (maybe Skinner's mother?), Treehouse of Horror that spoofs the constant remakes by remaking one of their OWN Treehouse of Horrors, Maggie say a full sentence (maybe for the final episode, where she also tosses aside her pacifier).

I'm sure I can think of more, but that's enough for now. Anyone else?

I think 25 years is a great number to end at, because it sounds so epic, but reality is telling me that Kevin Reilly really wants to move on from this particular show.

It's funny, because NBC said the same thing about the original Law & Order a couple of years ago. They too were at a crossroads with the show. The NBC president even went as far as saying what FOX is saying....they don't want to be known as the person(s) who ended a long, successful show's reign. We all know what NBC did despite those comments.

The show has been on more than 20 years, it has a good a run and though I will be sad to see go it would not be the death of me if it did. I have heard from many fans of the series that they believe the show has gone stale and have even gone so far as stop watching the show because the jokes have become weak and the storylines ridiculous. This may be true, I don't know because I have missed the passed few seasons. However, the episodes I have seen I would believe that they definitely running low on idaes anymore and are repeating themselves. Back in Season 3 they did an episode called " I Married Marge" and then they talk about how Bart was conceived and how Marge and Homer got married. Well, in a much later season, I don't know which one it showed Homer and Marge in college and they break up for half of the episode and then got back together and it shows at the end how Bart was conceived. Now they already did this episode, why are they doing it again? It just seemed rather stupid to do the same episode twice. Anyone else agree with me?

I know that my brother does, he has been watching it since the show first was aired back in 1989. I wasn't really allowed when I was young to watch the show because I was only 5 years old when it first came on as a regular prime-time show and my mom didn't really want me seeing it because of the adult humor and language. Now an grown up, I own all the seasons of the show that are out and just recently I tried to watch the newest season that aired a couple weeks ago and so far what I have seen its not too bad, but it's definitely not as funny as it use to be. I have gotten a few chuckles out of them, but their not delivering anything that could be considered laugh-out loud funny. I think they need to quit while they are ahead.

Me either. Actually I think it's been longer than that. Never really cared for it much after a while and I'm still :eek: that it's been on so long.
