I've heard that they didn't want stools in Cafe Nervosa because they didn't want it related to Cheers, but did you hear about some other similarities they were avoiding?

Once it was agreed that Grammer would continue as Dr. Crane, the creators still wanted to distance themselves from Boston and the whole “crossover syndrome.” They knew that the network would insist on having both Wings and former Cheers characters make guest appearances if the show was set anywhere in Massachusetts, so they moved Frasier across the country to Seattle. The gourmet coffee scene was taking root in that area, which provided a central meeting place for the characters. The creators didn’t want Frasier Crane to work in private practice, which had already been done in The Bob Newhart Show. Grammer’s resonant voice seemed natural for radio, so the concept of a call-in psychiatry show seemed natural. WKRP in Cincinnati had been set at a radio station, however, so writers needed to develop some sort of home life for Frasier.

In the beginning, Kelsey didn't want a British theropist. He thought it would be too much like the Nanny.

Thank God Kelsey changed his mind! Having an English physical therapist was genius! :D

I did read about there not being any stools at Nervosa, and I'm glad they went with that. I love Cafe Nervosa! Too bad there isn't a real one! But as far as the thing about Seattle, I read that the original setting was supposed to be Denver. Supposedly the reason they chose Seattle is because at the time Denver was against gay marriage.
I found this on the IMDB website that has some fascinating trivia about Frasier that even I didn't know. I'll post the link in another thread but here's the part about why the show takes place in Seattle

The show's creators originally planned for the show to take place in Denver, Colorado. But in late 1992, Colorado passed an amendment that repealed anti-gay discrimination laws. (It was later declared unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court.) The creators did not agree with the amendment and decided to move the show's setting further west to Seattle. The creators did not want the show to take place in Boston, Massachusetts as "Cheers" had because they did not want NBC to ask for frequent guest appearances from that show's characters.

Personally I think it's awesome that the show takes place in Seattle! Hmm... Can't imagine why!
