View Full Version : Lisa Kudrow as Roz
I can't believe how hard it is to find a picture of Kudrow on the set of Frasier (i.e. she was originally casted to play Roz). Does anyone have one?
I have seen short footage of her in Roz's booth in an interview of Frasier before.

I never knew this?!?!?!?!?
Here's one article:
The role of Frasier’s producer was the least developed when the pilot script was written. A casting call was announced and the role was eventually whittled down to two actresses: Lisa Kudrow and Peri Gilpin. The producers found Kudrow to be extremely funny, and able to make even the most mundane lines sound hilarious, so she was hired. During the first few days of rehearsals for the pilot episode, however, the writers found themselves having to re-write the characters of Roz and Frasier. It seemed that while Lisa was funny, she just couldn’t play “forceful.” It soon became apparent that that the role of Roz would have to fall to someone who, although less educated than Dr. Crane, would be in control of things at the radio station. They needed a character who could hold her own whenever Frasier became too pompous, and that someone was Peri Gilpin. Lisa was a trouper when the news was delivered, and landing a role on Friends the following year certainly helped to ease her pain.

Thanks Pat for the article. You learn something new everyday. lol
Schmoopie 11-30-2011, 04:38 AM I just can't picture Lisa Kudrow as Roz. Peri is great and although I'm probably being biased, I definitely couldn't picture Bulldog and Lisas's Roz together like I could the "REAL" Roz and Bulldog.
Lisa Kudrow Explains How She Got Over The Devastation Of Being Fired As Roz on ‘Frasier’ (http://uproxx.com/tv/2014/12/lisa-kudrow-explains-how-she-got-over-the-devastation-of-being-fired-as-roz-on-frasier/)
Superbatboy 05-21-2017, 11:42 PM I'm sure losing the role of Roz was the furthest from Lisa's mind when the cast of Friends signed that $1 million per episode contract in 2002. Getting fired was the best thing that could've happened to her.
Been a while since I've been on here, but I finally found a picture of Lisa. Okay, I lied. They were only in script walk-throughs when they make the change to Peri, so those types of photos just don't exist. So here's one I created. Oh, and another if Lisa was in Room Full of Heroes.
sdb4884 03-09-2018, 07:17 AM We certainly dodged a bullet there. Peri Gilpin was amazing in that role, I just don't see Lisa Kudrow pulling it off.
Chocolate Moose 03-09-2018, 02:20 PM Whew!
Latka Gravas 11-24-2019, 03:00 AM Not a big Lisa Kudrow fan, and I find Friends to be one of the most insipid, overrated sitcoms of all time. I've never been able to sit through a full episode, given that I find the plots boring/uninteresting - and hate the characters as well.
So, it's great that Kudrow didn't get cast as Roz. She would have ruined the show! I can't imagine Frasier being as good or as funny with her as in that role. PG was perfectly cast here, and I can't imagine any other actress playing the character as well.
That being said, I did like Kudrow in an off-beat, obscure movie set in L.A. called Powder Blue (2006) - but I don't like her in much else.
