The California Attorney General's Office of Charitable Trust is investigating the Farrah Fawcett Foundation for potential mismanagement of funds, diversion of assets, and fraud, ABC News has learned exclusively through numerous sources including Fawcett's longtime friend and former college boyfriend Greg Lott.
The foundation became active after Fawcett's death in June 2009 from her long and much-publicized battle with cancer, according to attorney Jane Peebles, counsel to the foundation.
ABC News has been told both the Farrah Fawcett Foundation and the Farrah Fawcett Living Trust, which funds the foundation, have been notified and ordered to turn over their financial records and estate planning documents. Sources also say they were given 60 days to comply. The deadline is believed to be sometime in September 2011.
Lott says the California Attorney General's office has been quietly interviewing friends, business associates and several beneficiaries of Fawcett since early July.
Richard B. Francis, the trustee of the estate and chairman of the foundation, as well as Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal's former business manager, calls the investigation a witch hunt and says the foundation has done nothing wrong. Nevertheless, he says the foundation is cooperating fully with the investigation.
Alana Stewart, president of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, says the foundation is following Farrah's wishes and calls the investigation outrageous.
The California Attorney General's office refused to comment for this story saying, "we don't confirm or deny the existence of investigations."
Brian Damage 09-24-2011, 10:21 PM Why does this not shock me. I don't trust the likes of Alana Stewart and Ryan O'Neal.
catlover79 09-24-2011, 10:34 PM Neither do I. When I read the story and saw that Alana Stewart is the president, I just cringed. The foundation (and Farrah's memory) deserves far better than this!!!!

I agree, it seems that those two losers were just waiting for poor Farrah to die, so they could make a profit off her death. (And they both have)
catlover79 09-24-2011, 10:57 PM Still, at least Farrah was of sound enough mind to keep them both out of her will - she left her entire estate to her son, if I recall correctly. Whether or not Redmond will actually conquer his demons and live to tell about it remains to be seen.

very true
catlover79 09-24-2011, 11:10 PM Redmond is almost exactly the same age as my brother, so to see him (Redmond) go through what he's been through is just tragic. His mother is gone and his father is Ryan O'Neal - enough said. Just look at his half-siblings, Tatum and Griffin. (Though to be fair, Tatum and Griffin's mother, Joanna Moore, was also a major substance abuser - they got it from both sides!!) The only one of Ryan's kids who seems to have come through unscathed is his son, Patrick, who was the product of his marriage to Leigh Taylor-Young. LTY, I believe, had sole custody of Patrick - need I say more??

I think losing his mother, put Redmond over the top with his substance abuse.
catlover79 09-24-2011, 11:29 PM He was already having issues with drugs, but being unable to be with her in her last days due to his incarceration may have put it over the top. I think he was allowed to leave jail for a day (under supervision, of course) for her funeral, but that was it.

My question is this....Why did Farrah surround herself with such jackals?!?
catlover79 09-25-2011, 12:11 AM I wonder if she ever regretted leaving Lee Majors throughout the years - especially as he went on to marry again and have more children (I think he has kids from his first marriage).
Vahan 09-25-2011, 12:31 AM I don't think Ryan O'Neal was even the least sympathetic about Farrah's death. If anything, he most likely faked his sympathy just to make himself look better than he really is.
catlover79 09-25-2011, 01:58 AM He sure didn't waste any time getting on the interview circuit as soon as she passed. But then, no one paid that much attention to him because pretty soon the death of Michael Jackson overshadowed EVERYTHING.
Vahan 09-25-2011, 01:13 PM Just my not so humble opinion, but even if you overlook his personal life, there's really nothing special about Ryan O'Neal at all. I mean he's really only known for two things in his career: Peyton Place and Love Story (which is one of the most overrated and dullest movies ever).
McGillicuddy 09-25-2011, 07:38 PM .....and he and Tatem with Paper Moon.
McGillicuddy 09-25-2011, 07:42 PM Who's Alana Stewart? Wasn't that Farrah's best friend?
catlover79 09-25-2011, 08:50 PM ^ Supposed best friend, I guess you could call her. She's mainly famous for being the ex-wife of both George Hamilton and Rod Stewart.

Farrah’s foundation disputes ‘fraud’ claim

California authorities are auditing the foundation set up after the death of Farrah Fawcett, according to reports.
But Alana Stewart, the president of the foundation, is insisting the probe is strictly routine -- disputing an ABC News report that the foundation is being investigated for fraud.
“I’m looking into legal action against ABC News,” Stewart told The Post yesterday. “I just want the truth out there.
“I’m tired of these a--holes maligning us. They’ve maligned me, and they’ve maligned the foundation. I have sat back and taken the high road . . . but I’ve had enough.”
ABC News reported last Friday that the California Attorney General’s Office of Charitable Trust has launched a probe into the Farrah Fawcett Foundation for “potential mismanagement of funds, diversion of assets and fraud.”
The ABC News report cited “numerous sources,” including Greg Lott, Fawcett’s “longtime friend and former college boyfriend.”
But Jane Peebles, who’s been the foundation’s attorney since its 2006 inception, told The Post that the audit, called a “correspondence audit,” is standard.
“It’s a routine audit of a non-profit organization by the Attorney General, who has not made any allegations whatsoever of fraud or mismanagement,” Peebles said.
“We do know there are certain disgruntled parties out there . . . who are not in a position to know anything about our operations . . . who are making such allegations.
“We’re confident the audit will have a satisfying result. We have absolutely nothing to hide.”
An ABC News spokesman said the network had not heard from the foundation as of late yesterday.
It’s the latest kerfuffle to erupt since Fawcett died in June 2009 at the age of 62 after battling anal cancer.
Her BFF Stewart came under fire in May 2009 for reportedly demanding $200,000 for a “producer” credit on the two-hour NBC documentary, “Farrah’s Story.”
Earlier this year, Fawcett’s ex-live-in-boyfriend, Ryan O’Neal, was accused of keeping an original $30 million Andy Warhol silkscreen portrait of Fawcett that the actress bequeathed to the University of Texas.
The portrait was seen hanging in O’Neal’s Malibu bedroom in episodes of the OWN reality series, “Ryan & Tatum: The O’Neals.”
The University sued O’Neal last July for “improperly” keeping the silkscreen, which O’Neal claims was “given to him by Farrah.”
Fawcett and her famous blonde mane starred in the ’70s ABC series “Charlie’s Angels.”
