The Westboro Baptist Church, which acts abhorrently by protesting things like the funerals of soldiers and is proud to sport reprehensible t-shirts that bear phrases about God hating homosexuals, announced that they would be using their time wisely to protest the Foo Fighters show on Sept. 18 in Kansas City, MO. The members of the “church” believe that the entertainment industry as a whole acts counter-intuitively to God’s laws and they’ve taken it upon themselves to lash out against servicemen and, as they like to call them, “****,” which is totally God-like, right? Well, Dave Grohl and his fellow Foos staged their own counter protest, quite literally. They rolled into town on Friday, Sept. 16 and performed on the flat bed of a truck in front of the Sprint Center where the Westboro Baptist Church folk were congregating, protesting and generally hate mongering.

The band played the same truck stop characters from the ‘Keep it Clean (Hot Buns)’ tour promo video, which the WBC is protesting in the first place, due to its homoerotic tones. Grohl donned his long, gray, Willie Nelson-like wig, a straw hat and a flannel and his bandmates followed suit with work vests and trucker hats. They serenaded protesters with an acoustic, country version of the song and encouraged being open-minded and accepting of all people. Grohl sang about not caring if you are black, white, purple or green, or Pennsylvanian or Transylvanian.

Grohl addressed the group of people and fans that had assembled, saying, “I don’t care if you are Lady Gaga or Lady Antebellum, it takes all kinds. Men loving women, women loving men, men loving men, women loving women… you know we all like to watch that. God Bless America y’all.”

Dave, we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Hell yeah!

I still want to hear somebody play "Believe" by Dig at Fred Phelps' funeral, but I wouldn't mind a Foo Fighters song played there instead.

It's nice to see that someone has given these looney tunes a taste of their own medicine and for once crashed THEIR party. Turnabout is fair play, Mr. Phelps!!!! :D

Good!

These WBC aren't even Christians either! They say they are...but they really aren't!

Language warning (though personally I feel that Westboro's protest signs are more offensive than the bad words used):

I would love to see the IRS investigate this so-called church If they are knee-deep in auditors, they will be busy to harass people and crash funerals. What a pathetic collection of inbreds!

I wonder why there has yet to be a cease and desist order from the official Baptist Church for these yo-yos to stop using "Baptist" in their name. What they do is certainly not the work of God - and real Christians would never do what Phelps and his lackeys do.

There is no copyright claim, or anything of the sort, when it comes to religious institutions.

Look at the Jews for Jesus, for example, as they claim to be Jews defined by Jewish law. However, they are not accepted by neither the Jews or the Christians.

You can call yourselves anything and really the only thing one can do about it is formally distance themselves from that particular belief.

Also, being "real" anything is also subjective since not everyone agrees with the same beliefs. Your church, or religion, can do things one way whereas another sect will think that what you believe in is blasphemy.

I didn't know if there actually was such a thing as copyright claims for churches, but how does Westboro keep tax exempt status? How do they afford to keep going all across the country with their protesting?
