View Full Version : Charlie’s Angels Ratings Were NOT Heavenly

ABC’s Charlie’s Angels and NBC’s Prime Suspect, had lackluster openings, while NBC’s comedy Whitney was promising. CBS’ Person of Interest was solid (as has been every series — new or returning — on CBS this week), but at first blush it looks more like The Mentalist than the series it replaced, CSI, in terms of breakout potential.

ABC’s Charlie’s Angels reboot (2.1/6 in 18-49, 8.7 million) got off to a slow start given its pre-sold title. (Last fall, CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot premiered with a 3.9 demo rating.) Still, Charlie’s Angels was up 31% from last fall’s debut in the slot of My Generation, which was canceled a couple of weeks later.

I don't care about the ratings being not that good for the first episode because i liked what i saw and i'm gonna continue to watch it. I like the new women playing Charlie's Angels. I was surprised they got a black woman to be one of the angels. Minka Kelly is hot. I've seen her before in the movie The Roommate with Leighton Meester. That's a good movie. I wouldn't mind kissing and massaging Cameron Diaz feet. Nice pictures of her being barefoot at the Charlie's Angels movie premiere.

The reviews weren't heavenly, either. I have no comment either way - I didn't watch. Some things are best left in the past.

This is exactly the same thing that happened when the original version premiered in 1976. It might not have been a ratings blockbuster out of the gate, but it was enough to be a sensation, and I believe that this version will be as well. Expect this to be around for a long time.

the diference is that networks do not wait for a show to gain an audience anymore; if it isn't a super-hyper-megahit right out of the gate they give up on it, stop promoting it, and if it drops below a certain ratings level, they cancel it immediately.

Remakes that are successes, like Hawaii Five-O, are the very rare exception to the rule. I couldn't believe it when that show became a hit!!!

I finally got around to watching the pilot today on my DVR.

I don't know, it was just "alright". I'm definitely going to watch more and give it more of a chance.

I'm not too crazy about Bosley though.

For me, I was pleased to see Carlos Bernard in it. I know him from "24" and I had no idea he was going to be in it, so it was a treat for me to see him here as the "villain of the week".

My favorite angel has to be Rachael Taylor.

Reverend Jim, thanks for posting a picture of the actresses playing the new Charlie's Angels. That's a nice picture. Also thanks for the Cameron Diaz pictures showing her barefoot. That last picture of her in the water at the beach with her feet in the air is nice. Robyrob, you do make a good point about tv networks don't wait for people to watch a show anymore so the show can stay on for awhile. TV networks today don't have the patience anymore for people to tune in to watch shows like they did back in the day so the shows can stay on longer. There have been a few tv shows that i liked that got cancelled that i wish would've stayed on longer like Fastlane with Bill Bellamy and Tiffany Amber Theissen and Dark Blue with Dylan McDermott and Omari Hardwick. I also didn't get a chance to watch the new Knight Rider that got cancelled but i'm glad it's on dvd so i can see it because i wanna check it out. I loved the old Knight Rider with David Hasselhoff. I'm trying to get that on dvd too.

Some things are better left alone. The original was good for it's time. Too many shows have been remade only to fail, Love Boat, Fantasy Island. I do, however like the Charlie's Angels movies for the campiness. My sister likes the new Five-0, but I prefer the original. Oh well, maybe someday Hollywood will have an original idea, but if the movies coming out are any clue, I'd say not. Remakes, sequels, prequels. Now they are remaking remakes.

There's also the new "90210". It's on its 4th season now.

The new "Melrose Place" didn't make it.

On any other network it wouldn't be. I watched the first season mainly to see some of the original cast.

Hawaii Five-O is more like a buddy cop show. You could change the names and it would still be fun to watch. they don't take it too seriously. It isn't as good as the original but is a fun show on it's own. Most of the other remakes try to take themselves too seriously and fail miserably.

Regarding the new Melrose Place, I was initially interested in it because original castmembers were to be on it. I never understood what the deal was with Sydney (Laura Leighton). Her character was killed off in the original show, but then she was alive at the beginning of the re-boot. Then, I think she died again. Was her reserection ever explained? Did she die again? Why was she brought back if she was just going to be killed off again?

Hawaii 5-0, the exeptional re-boot that has survived, used the same principle characters played by different actors. Something else that H50 did was bring back the old musical theme opening with the star credits. That may seem trivial, but I think that initially drew viewers in, as well as connected with the old show.

I don't understand why most shows have done away with the opening themes. The re-boots especially would benefit from it for nostagic purposes, and also so whe know who's who in the cast!! Charlie's Angels, The Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, Melrose Place, 90210...none of these shows brought back the old theme openings!!

The new "Charlie's Angels" does use the original theme, but it has been sort of re-tooled.

Yeah, I noticed that, but I'm talking about the complete theme song openings with the cast introductions, that are very rare now-adays.

I know - and it's a shame. I've always been a sucker for the H5O theme song. :D

I hope that this show makes a success. I did watch the first episode. I liked it. It was pretty violent, though.

The second episode was old school style, like the original. The theme song was actually shown.
