View Full Version : What new shows are you watching this fall?
mets82 09-21-2011, 09:52 PM I apologize if this type of question has been posted but what new shows are you going to watch this fall?
I'll give some shows a shot. Up All Night, Whitney, Suberagotory (sp), the name escapes me but its the show with Zooey Dashenal, maybe a few others. What about you?
Retro4Life 09-21-2011, 10:05 PM There's a show, it must be a midseason replacement, called "The River" that I'd like to check out, also "Terra Nova".
Other than that, not much.
mets82 09-21-2011, 10:16 PM I also might try Heart of Dixie with Racheal Bilson. Shes pretty cute.
Mr. Television 09-21-2011, 11:32 PM 2 Broke Girls, Terra Nova, Person of Interest, Suberagotory, Pan Am
benjamoon 09-21-2011, 11:47 PM I'm checking them all out and reviewing them on my blog (link in signature). Of the ones so far, I really enjoyed 2 Broke Girls, liked Up All Night and Revenge enough to come back, liked parts of The Playboy Club and Unforgettable, and didn't like Free Agents
treky 09-22-2011, 01:43 AM "TERRA NOVA" looks interesting; I might check that out, watched the pilot of "Unforgettable" and some of it was pretty good, I might watch it ocasionely.
cruzado_77 09-22-2011, 02:43 AM Terranova, New Girl, Revenge, A Gifted Man, Charlie's Angels.
I did not like Up All Night.
comedyfreak 09-22-2011, 04:26 AM I want to check out the new comedies, Charlie's Angels, and Revenge.
James 09-22-2011, 01:47 PM None of them! :D :p
Regulus 09-22-2011, 04:01 PM None of them! :D :p
SECONDED!
Jaqui-Michel 09-22-2011, 05:05 PM Person Of Interest
Suburgatory
Unforgettable
Ringer
Prime Suspect
Whitney
Two Broke Girls
Up All Night
New Girl
I will be watching the first four episodes of all. I hope they will remain on my must see list.
Zoneboy 09-22-2011, 05:14 PM SECONDED!
Likewise
LUNCH 09-26-2011, 02:17 PM NONE of them, have not watched the networks in years.
EmoJoe 09-26-2011, 02:19 PM I watched the pilots for 2 Broke Girls, New Girl, Up All Night, and Free Agents...I'll probably continue with all of them except for Free Agents which was just alright. I'm iffy on 2 Broke Girls, I'll give it a few more weeks. Planning on checking out Suburgatory too.
Brent88 09-26-2011, 02:45 PM Two Broke Girls
Ringer
Up All Night
Revenge
Pan Am
Those are the ones getting at least another couple of episodes try out.
Still to premiere: Terra Nova(tonight), Suburgatory(Wednesday, promos look hilarious), Once Upon a Time, and Last Man Standing, which will all get at least a sample
CommonTater 09-26-2011, 02:58 PM We have tried all the new shows that have been on and so far nothing impressed us BUT we watched Pan Am last night and we'll try it again. It's set in a simpler time, 1963.
It seems to have a little twist....maybe a little spy action like the old days of Mission Impossible and Get Smart.
tvparadise 09-26-2011, 03:05 PM I'm giving all the new comedies a try...at least 2 episodes a piece.
I've liked 'New Girl' and 'Up All Night' the best so far. '2 Broke Girls' was alright, but if the 2nd episode doesn't do much for me...adios. I liked 'Whitney' less than that...but will also give it a 2nd week.
I've already canceled 'Free Agents' from my viewing line-up with no hesitation.
Out of what hasn't premiered just yet, 'Suburgatory' looks the most interesting to me.
bencasey 09-27-2011, 03:21 AM Tried most of them (sorry, couldn't bring myself to even try Hart of Dixie) and only ones I'll give a second episode to are Revenge, Prime Suspect and Persons of Interest. The sitcoms are all horrendous with nothing but sex jokes.
JamesG 09-27-2011, 03:24 AM Pan Am
Revenge
Charlie's Angels is neutral for me at the moment. I will tune in again.
70s show watcher 09-27-2011, 07:18 AM rhe only one that ive watched so far that ive outright hated is the playboy club its just a badly written and produced show i liked person of interest more than i thought i would same whitney and 2 broke girls i didnt dislike new girl but i dont think its as good as some people say it is unforgettable is good but just average i really enjoyed a gifted man and prime suspect up all night is cute and i will stick with it but im not sure how long it will last free anents is an ok time filler but nothing more and pan am is a fun show to wind down your weekend with
70s show watcher 09-27-2011, 07:21 AM i ment free agents
Yong Fang 09-27-2011, 07:34 AM I hate to say it, but there is NOTHING that really piques my interest. Again, NOTHING at all. For me, I pretty much know what I would like and what I don't, and I just do not see much of anything that I would not turn off after 5 minutes, with professional reviewers backing up my sentiments.
I have resisited "Two Broke Girls" because it seems like another lazy CBS comedy with stale jokes that have been retold since the days of Everybody Loves Raymond forward. I like the CBS show Mike and Molly however, because it does have humourous side characters and an interesting concept. Last Man Standing has Tim Allen in it, if you like Tim Allen. I will probably try that out for a few minutes and may be surprised. Probably not. Subburgatory on ABC might be good.
The Playboy Club and PanAm are ripoffs of Mad Men. Never saw Mad Men. If I want to get my Mad Men on, I'd make a cocktail, smoke an unfiltered and pop in some Dick Van Dyke Show, Jack Benny or some old Johnny Carson. I do not do fantasy, no magic, witches, secret machines to tell the future, ugh.
I am looking forward to Napolean Dynomite, but it's not coming out until Spring of '12. On FOX, I might give the animated show Allen Gregory a shot, but one reviewer states that it is somewhat in humor to Bob's Burgers which I watched and really disliked. But Napolean is the only new show that I am looking forward to seeing.
The cooking and dancing shows are dreck. The Simon Crowell talent contests suck too. Why do people watch this??????   Being judgemental, these are the shows I am watching from the networks.
Mike & Molly
Raising Hope
Modern Family
The Middle
Law and Order SVU
Law and Order Criminal Intent (if it is still on.)
The Office
Parks and Recreation (My favorite show on TV.)
Cable:
Breaking Bad
A&E 's Hoarders, Intervention, Billy the Exterminator.
History Channel's Swamp People.
Various cable documentaries.
Football.
Reruns of old shows from the stone age of the three networks.
My two favorite first season shows cancelled last year...
The Good Guys (Show was funny as sh*t.)
Law and Order Los Angeles. I love L&O and wish they would have given this series another chance, but they fumbled the ball early and lost. I love L&O but writing for a chain of series for over 20 years, the same old junk comes up. SVU is probably on its last legs and then nothing but DVD's and the internet to keep it alive.
CommonTater 09-27-2011, 11:17 AM The sitcoms are all horrendous with nothing but sex jokes.
Sadly, I agree.:(
skymarshallwinky 09-29-2011, 01:35 PM Really liking "Suburgatory" and "Revenge" so far. The former had a really funny pilot, and the latter is fun, pulpy, soapy goodness.
"Up All Night" is half of a good show (not enjoying the Maya Rudolph half).
"A Gifted Man" had a really great pilot, but I can totally see it devolving into Ghost Whisperer-meets-House nonsense.
"Terra Nova," "Person of Interest," and "Pan Am" were all underwhelming or disappointing. I'll keep with them for a few more episodes, but I don't have much faith in them.
"New Girl" is terrible. Don't understand America's utter fascination with it.
jimpickens 09-29-2011, 05:45 PM American Hogger and ROH wrestling is about the only shows that are worth watching this season.
UMFaninMD 09-29-2011, 06:12 PM Luther on BBC America and Bedlam (also on BBC America, a horror series about a mental hospital made into apartments) looks really interesting too. Everything else doesn't interest me and I'm really tired of the reality/talent competition shows too. We don't need two straight hours of that every week!
factsoflife 09-29-2011, 07:52 PM I'm watching "Revenge", "Pan Am", "Whitney", "How To Be A Gentleman", "New Girl" and "Unforgettable".
So far I'm loving "Revenge" and "New Girl". I like "Whitney" and "Pan Am" and am still undecided about "How to be a gentleman". Not at all sold on "Unforgettable".
I watched only the pilots of "Free Agents" and "Up All Night" and didn't care for either.

I didnt watch Revenge. I have to catch up watching Whitney and New Girl. I did watch Subergatory and I thought that was good. Up All Night I have watched the last two episodes as I missed the pilot. Up All Night was ok last night although the one last week was a little better.

You should make an effort to catch "Revenge" it's excellent. It has interesting characters, a nice, quick moving pace and enough narrative to fill you in, but not so much you get lost. It's a good concept that is well executed thus far.
I also liked Suburgatory, a good show, but I'm unsure if it'll be a long-term hit or not.

I'm watching "Revenge" too and I also think that it's very good.
However the only thing I'm unsure of is how this is going to make it as a long-lasting series. The show has a specific narrative or "goal" to it and what happens after that has been solved?
I don't know if you watched it but do you remember "Prison Break"? The show started out with the objective of breaking out of the prison and once you complete that, then what do you do?
In my opinion by the time the show ended it was running on fumes. I don't want to see the same thing happen to "Revenge" by having an awesome beginning and then "limping on".
Mr. Television 09-30-2011, 12:04 AM So far I've liked Suburgatory, Two Broke Girls, New Girl, Person of Interest, Revenge, Pan Am.
Zebra 3 09-30-2011, 12:11 AM Watched my first and probably last episodes of Pan Am and Cover Me Canada.
steevo 09-30-2011, 08:06 PM So far I like Pan Am, Suburgatory,New Girl, and will check out Terra Nova when I get a chance.

I think that with "Revenge" the trick is that despite the fact that Emily is there for revenge, I think the show has legs because obviously as she develops feelings for some of these people her goals and objectives may change; and I think as she gets revenge on more people she runs the risk of being found out and having to deal with those people.
I think that the writing is good enough to last at least a few seasons.

Yeah, you may be right about that, especially regarding the one character who knows who she really is.
Schmoopie 10-02-2011, 03:53 AM I watched "Whitney" when it premired and really liked it. I haven't watched the newest episode yet, though. I also watched "Up All Night" and couldn't take anymore after about ten minutes. I thought it was awful. Very disappointing.

I like Christina Applegate but Up All Night just wasn't funny.
