View Full Version : ALN is now You Too
tbswatcher 09-20-2011, 05:02 PM I was looking at local tv listings on zap2it.com and saw on Ch. 259 instead of American Life Network was You Too. Anyone know when this took affect because I just tuned in to that channel and it is called you too. I just saw that its link is youtoo.com.
Pavan mentioned this on his blog but never got back to it. Sister network AmericanLife Network (ALN) will be rebranding and changing their name on Sept. 19. We still cannot reveal what the name is yet so you'll have to stay with us! We can tell you they will be adding some classic series programming again! Stay tuned!

Hmmm...
TeeVeeCloset 09-20-2011, 07:52 PM It is their approx 5th change since they were originally The Nostalgia Network, Youtoo is the most pathetic attempt I have ever seen to run a network....this idea has been attempted (viewers making announcements) several times, stretching a Batman episode to an hour, with really only 4 hours of programming stretched to 24.....they need to just go dark. Besides the female attractive hosts, it literally is unwatchable.
There's a reason these channels have never gotten significant cable/satellite carriage...

Never heard of them, but they don't sound that much different than 90 percent of cable tv stations.
gilligan fanatic 09-21-2011, 02:08 PM I had Batman on yesterday and because it was so many breaks in it I forgot what I was watching and why I had it on. ALN was good at recently as a year or two ago, fell apart pretty fast
Sammy Reed 09-21-2011, 02:20 PM Yet another exhibit in the growing folder of evidence that re-runs should only be handled by TV stations themselves.
eng51squad51 09-21-2011, 03:27 PM I remember long time ago back when my cable company was called Telecable it carry The Nostalgia Network back then it only had old B&W shows from 1920-1930 then they drop The Nostalgia Network after couple years.
robyrob 09-21-2011, 07:02 PM just looking at their schedule it looks like a complete waste of a channel.

I doubt it was ever dropped, in my post I said it kept changing formats, The currrent YouToo, was formally ALN, formally GoodLife, it goes back over 20 years, the original name and format was the network you described "The Nostalgia Network".
CommonTater 09-22-2011, 11:29 AM I really wish some of these channels like ALN, RTV, Antenna TV and the others like them would be available to DirecTV. I love the old shows and lately all I watch is GMC and INSP. There are a lot of us that can't pick up anything with an antenna and can't get cable because we live in the boonies.
At least Designing Women is coming to TV Guide Channel, I know they'll chop off some but at this point, I'm grateful just to see it.

Yet another cable channel getting away from its intended reason for being.
So I guess they're showing TV shows in a little box, while the listings are on the bottom of the screen.
Or even worse, they'll show them in a bigger box, with maybe a line or two at a time of TV listings in smaller letters at the bottom of the screen.
Not the channel to go showing reruns.

Teeveecloset,
None of those other names for "The Nostalgia Network" never been seen in my market after my cable company drop that channel after couples years and replace it with a different channel plus my old cable company change hands few times also as it was Telecable then TCI cable then Intermedia cable and now current name Charter communcations and i have a Directv satelitte now.

I didn't watch it as i have all batman taped to DVD, but was that on for 1hr by that i mean the 1st part i think the 2nd part was listed as such too being on an hr? We have FIOS and it listed on that channel as being an for part 1
BTW You Too is the worst name i have heard for a TV Station, wonder who stayed awake nights thinking that name up

Just to clear things up, what I wrote about Nostalgia morving into todays Youtoo is correct, but yes once the smaller literally "mom & pop" cable companies started being bought out in the late 80's to mid 90's by the four giants we have today, then yes your channel line-up would have changed because the new owners were not obligated to renew the channel carriage contracts.

Yeah, one 30 minute episode was on for an hour

I agree. I watch a lot of GMC and INSP because they (and a few other religious channels) are finally showing classic TV shows! And INSP has just added more, including The Brady Bunch, Bonanza, and The Big Valley. I wish DirecTV carried some of these channels. If I recall correctly, Weigel Broadcasting offered to let DirecTV air MeToo (the sister channel to MeTV) for free, and DirecTV refused. At least, that's what they said on their web site. If true, I don't know why DirecTV would refuse.
Thanks for mentioning Designing Women coming to TGVN! Unlike on cable, TVGN on DirecTV is full-screen; there are no TV listings. TV Land used to carry Designing Women...back when TV Land was good. I hope to catch the shown on TVGN.

LUNCH 09-26-2011, 03:05 PM ^^^As far as I know Antenna-tv ALSO offered the sat companies the oportunity to carry them for free, but the satellite companies also refused them.Yet they pay companies like Viacom a fortune to carry TVLand and the other commercial filled junk stations.A bunch of idiots,no wonder Pay tv is losing so many customers.
You Too, as it is now called, just needs to give up. They've been around for so long and have NEVER gotten anywhere. This new concept sounds awful.
I don't really care for much that GMC/Gospel Music or INSP have to offer, but I notice all of these channels are always showing The Waltons - counting the 3 channels it's on, it comes on 9 times a day! That's insane.

You'd think these Channels would look at each other's channels and realise that someone else is showing that Series, and would seek something else to show instead. (They could all be owned by the same Company, this happens with A LOT of the Channels, which is why it seems you could see the SAME EPISODE of THE SAME TV SERIES a dozen times or more on just as many channels)! :angryfire Is it any wonder people are giving up on Pay-TV?
As for this Channel I do have something to thank them for. :D I have six "Alternate" TV Series Sets that were recorded off this Channel when they were Goodlife/American Life. :happyface Since the Studio that made these Series refuses to release them, :( this was the only way I was able to see them. :p
