I am convinced they are one of the smartest animals on the planet. Did you ever see that youtube clip where that squirrel crawls up a vending machine and comes out with a candybar ? The original video showed him sitting behind a tree unwrapping it. My neighbor across the street has this big tree in his front yard,not sure what kind it is but it produces these big green balls the size of apples,and they are hard. I watched this squirrel run from his yard carrying one in his mouth. When he got to the street it fell out and he went to get another one,then that one fell out in the street. He did that several times and waited for cars to run over them so he could get that seed or nut that was inside,the street was a mess but he got what he wanted. I would like to get a dozen or so squirrels and train them to steal for me. I would take them out late at night and go to jewelry stores and pawn shops and prop open the mail slots and insert a few of the fuzzy bandits,then come back in 20 minutes and see what goodies they snatched for me. I would love to be a fly on the wall in one of those places the next day when the crime lab is dusting and they keep finding tiny little fingerprints on everything.
