Ignoring the beloved star for his two seminal series, Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie, is like never sending your dad a Father's Day card.

I'm still stunned by that. However, his youngest daughter Jennifer would go on to win three consecutive Daytime Emmys for her role on As the World Turns (2006, 2007, and 2008). Not to slight her acting (I never watched her), but I always had a feeling that the Academy was in part trying to make it up to Michael Landon's memory by awarding his daughter so lavishly.

You are probably right about that Monika. Michael Landon could bring out so many emotions from his performance as Charles Ingalls. He was one of the few actors that I really respected.

You do have to admit that Jennifer looks a LOT like her father - especially the eyes and smile.

and don't forget his role as Jonathan Smith on Highway to Heaven. Both he and Victor French deserved emmys for those roles.

Believe it or not Monika, I don't see it. She is beautiful though.

Well said Sonny, all Landon did was quality, good, wholesome television.

I wonder why he's never gotten a Lifetime Achievement Emmy that can be accepted by his family. Does he have a Star on the Walk of Fame?

Yes. In fact, there's even a S5 episode of Highway to Heaven where Landon's character jokes about never having heard of Michael Landon before when he looks at the star:

Mark: "Oh, look, here's another one of my favorites, Michael Landon."

Jonathan: "Never heard of him."

Mark: "Are you kidding? Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie."

Jonathan: "Sorry, doesn't ring a bell."

Mark: "I keep forgetting you've been dead for 40 years."

Jonathan: "Look, don't you have every picture yet?"

Mark: "Not until I find Bette Davis. I promised my sister next time I was in Hollywood, I would get her a picture of Bette Davis' star. You know, we can find it a lot faster if you would use the stuff. Tell me where it is?"

Jonathan: "A block-and-a-half from here."

Mark: "Block-and-a-half? Why didn't you tell me that an hour ago?"

Jonathan: "Cause we got an appointment to meet someone here."

Mark: "Oh?, oh."

Besides being a terrific actor, let's not forget Michael's considerable talents as a writer, director and producer. :)

Yes - he wore a lot of hats and wore them all well. Here is a photo of one of Michael's LHOP daughters, Brenda Turnbaugh (Grace), wearing a Highway To Heaven jacket he gave her the last time she and her twin sister Wendi saw him (in the late 80s). Bren told me that he didn't have any child-size jackets there, but once she grew into it she'd get a lot more use out of the adult-size. As you can see, he was right!!

I agree, but honestly those award shows are overrated. The real award is how well the show is received by fans. I didn't realize he'd never been nominated and that's just wrong, but like I said... he showed them all. Most of those shows that win awards didn't last nearly as long as Little House, nor or they as good.

This is exactly it. Surprising that Michael Landon was never even nominated, but both LHOTP and HTH continue to air and entertain people. I'm not even a fan of either show (I do like Bonanza) but it has to be acknowledged that those two shows still move people to this day, and there are a lot of loyal fans out there for both shows.

Jennifer Landon was good on the soap, & I wonder if anyone even knew she was Michael Landon's daughter. Soap award shows are kind of worthless, too, but she was good, regardless. I don't see a resemblence to ML...she's cute but Michael Landon was a handsome, beautiful man.

It's like that soap opera chick, Susan Luci. Always a bride's maid, never a bride.
