View Full Version : Andy Dick Was Considered One Of The Biggest Emmy Snubs Of All Time?!? Really???
Brian Damage 09-17-2011, 09:35 PM He's become better known for the trouble he's gotten into, but Andy Dick used to be really funny — especially as NewsRadio's cat-loving idiot savant street reporter Matthew Brock. Yeah, it took us five seasons to figure out exactly what Matthew did, but that was part of his charm. We would have definitely voted for Dick's spastic performance in the episode where Matthew imagines the Hamburglar is framing him for breaking the station's coffee pots. (Hey, Rainn Wilson has earned multiple nods for playing the office weird guy; Andy should have too!)

Adamantium 09-18-2011, 06:36 AM Say what you will about Andy Dick but on NewsRadio he was funny. Of course being a super fan of this show I think they all deserved Emmys but then again maybe that adds to it's charm, the cult status and getting disrespected while it was on the air.
I don't know who he would have been up against. Obviously there were other people also deserving to win but some cast nominations would have been nice (I know Phil was noiminated but after his death).

NewsRadio was a very funny...very underrated show. If anybody from that show should've won it was Hartman. His deadpan delivery was classic. Andy Dick might have been funny, but deep down I am glad he never won. The guy nowadays would probably sell it off for drugs & hookers. (Sad but true)
Retro4Life 09-18-2011, 12:27 PM Honestly, I never followed Newsradio but from the clips and bits I've seen it seems like Dick was doing what he's been doing in every role I've ever seen him in; play himself.
I don't know; it's all subjective. That type of hyperactive, over the top persona just never does it for me, personally.

As the show went on he was more and more himself (as all the actors were). The early episodes, he was sweet, naive but inept. Then (for a while) they kind of did a Chevy Chase SNL thing and every opening scene he would have some kind of pratfall.
Also, his character DIDN'T do drugs. He was a man-child and was more or less a natural idiot, rather than one created by drug use, lol.
Skywalker 09-18-2011, 02:13 PM Half the cast (Hartman, Root, Foley and Dick) deserved emmy nods. Unfortunately, Newsradio, which was never a popular show, aired in the era of Seinfeld, Frasier, and believe it or not, 3rd Rock From the Sun, so Newsradio never really had a chance.
icecream 09-18-2011, 02:57 PM I haven't seen NewsRadio but Andy Dick was my least favorite actor in Less Than Perfect. To say he was an Emmy snub is laughable.

I watched Less Than Perfect several times because Andy Dick was in it, but I could never get into the show. Andy's character wasn't funny at all. I blame the writers though, not him.

That's why I watched Less Than Perfect too! I thought he was funny in it but I generally think he's funny. I know that's not the cool thing to say but it's how I feel.
His Matthew character was sweeter and more naive than Owen (from LTP).
