Former All-Star slugger Manny Ramirez is in police custody after being arrested Monday night in Broward County, Fla., a law enforcement source confirmed to FOXSports.com.

The official said Ramirez was being booked at the jail shortly before 9 p.m. ET but declined to specify the charges against him. TMZ.com cited two unnamed witnesses who said Ramirez was involved in an altercation with his wife at his home in Weston, Fla.

Ramirez was still being held as an inmate at the jail as of 9:30 p.m. ET, according to police records.

Ramirez, 39, retired from baseball earlier this year following a second positive test for performance-enhancing drugs. His use of banned substances, which came to light late in his career, has called into question achievements that would have otherwise resulted in election to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Ramirez was the 2004 World Series MVP, made 12 All-Star teams, and hit 555 home runs in a 19-year career.

This sure has not been Manny's year - he retired rather than serve a 100-day suspension for substance abuse, and now this. He has no one to blame but himself.

I think you have to be retired for at least three years before you're even eligible to be in the HOF.

Oddly enough, Manny is the second Indians' outfielder from the glory days of the 90s to be arrested on a charge involving harm to a woman. A few years ago, Albert Belle was arrested for stalking an ex-girlfriend (something about him putting a GPS on her car somewhere so he could track her every movement). Thank God both had left Cleveland for other teams and then retired.

This surprises me. Manny was different, even strange at times; but I don't ever remember him as violent. He never had much to say. Boston had him during his best years, his prime. I always liked him, and I don't enjoy his downfall.

He could have, but I don't remember anything being a big deal. I never heard it, to be honest. I know he's not crazy over the press, so could be. He rarely gave tv interviews. He was self-conscious over his bad English.

He rarely gave interviews while in Cleveland, as well. On a slightly different note, every time I hear the name "Kevin Youkalis", I always want to say "eucalpytus"!!!! :crazy: :lol:
