The Dick Van Dyke is going to be fifty years old this October, and just in time for that special anniversary, Image Entertainment brings us a collection of the 20 greatest episodes of the series in a five disc set. The series debuted in 1961 on CBS after being envisioned as a pilot starring Carl Reiner. But before the series was palatable for air, his character was replaced by the iconic Dick Van Dyke, who stars as Rob Petrie, as a man dealing with the ups and downs of his life at work and home. He works for Alan Brady (played by Carl Reiner, who, as previously mentioned, played the role of Rob in the original pilot) and has to deal with Buddy (Morey Amsterdam) and Sally (Rose Marie) at work. Meanwhile, at home is his well-meaning (but often ditzy) wife Laura (Mary Tyler Moore) and son Ritchie (Larry Matthews).

I own this entire series on DVD already so I won't be buying this set but to anyone who doesn't own this series on DVD and isn't ready to take the plunge and buy the entire series I highly recommend buying this set. The Dick Van Dyke Show is a sitcom classic and a classic TV treasure. And no TV DVD collection is complete without at least these 20 classic episodes of TDVDS! And my suspicion is that if you buy this set you'll enjoy it so much you'll end up going out and buying the entire series later!

I also own the complete series set. Was tempted to buy this new release, but now know there's no new extra features that aren't on the original set. Sure wish they would release the recent reunion show!!
