We all know that networks covet the 18-35 year old demographic for some reason. I am not sure if this was the case back in the 70's, but regardless, was Abe Vigoda too old to be the star of a show?

No - I don't think so. Fish was an extremely popular character on Barney Miller. Plus, the actresses on The Golden Girls were older and their show was wildly popular.

When "Fish" debuted in 1977 Abe was only 56 years old (though he looked older). When you consider the success Betty White has achieved as an octogenerian 56 seems very young! So no Abe was certainly NOT to old to get his own show!

I think most people always thought Abe was much older than he actually was. When he was in that Snickers commercial, with Betty White, it was like -wow- He's still alive??!!

That's what my mom said when she first saw that commercial.

I think an actor in their 70s or 80s can carry a show....Betty While surely could...but as good as Abe Vigoda is (and he is!) he' just doesn't measure up to Betty White

I don't think Abe was too old to get his own show. I loved and watched Fish every week and was disappointed when the show got canceled.

Sadly. sometimes good shows just never seem to catch on, for a variety of reasons (poorly publicized, poor time slot etc.)

I wish I could watch Fish again to decide!
