Have you guys ever thought of instating a minimum post requirement for posting links? Other forums have them, and it might be a good way to prevent people from registering for the sole purpose of spamming. Just a thought.

Regulus 09-09-2011, 02:00 PM I SECOND THIS! :( :angryfire Spammers SUCK!!! :angryfire  :( Marvo301 09-09-2011, 05:00 PM Excellent suggestion Brad! TJ 09-09-2011, 10:54 PM We installed this plug-in a few weeks ago. It's set to 5 to post links or use attachments. It stops some of the spam, but obviously not all of it. There are still some dumb spammers who will make a thread that looks like spam without any links. We've changed the registration options to make it harder for any bots to register. We also tried moderating all first posts, but many of these spammers lurk for some weeks or months before posting. They blend in like regular members. Unfortunately, there's not going to be any system that is going to be 100% effective in preventing the spam. It's a constant battle. All we can do is delete it really. It helps to have it reported. Regulus 09-17-2011, 02:17 PM You need to set the minimum HIGHER, to at least 25 or more posts. I have a feeling many people who are kicked off this board simply reset their computer, get a new name, and come on and post again. |
