Yes, you heard correctly!

Read here for more info (http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2011/09/familynet-fall-2011-schedule-part-ii.html)

This is great news, because 1) it may make more people interested in checking out the series for the first time, 2) it may convince people to get all the seasons on DVD so far, and 3) it might (I stress) might convince Fox to loosen their grip on the final two seasons!

Anything that can help get the last two seasons released on DVD is a good thing!

HALLELULLAH!!!

This gives me more reason to believe in cable TV all over again!

Even better news is that I can now see more of the '80s Newhart since stupid AT&T U-Verse took away WGN America a few years back.

And also The Hub is also airing Batman: The Animated Series too so now I have a reason to stay home now! :D

But the big question is will they air the late '80s/early '90s syndicated episode format or will it be a different way? I ask is because when N@N and Tv Land aired Family Ties they aired the eps. w/ the full intro credits. Same went for Perfect Strangers as well.

The Mr. B episodes could be edited in a different way compared to the way they were edited during the original off-network syndication run from 1989/1990 (cut episodes but with full-length opening, as opposed to cut episodes with the short opening). Keep in mind that just about all TV shows have different syndicated versions (they meet the minimum 22 minute requirement, but have different scenes removed).

This is fantastic news! I look forward to checking the shows out on Familynet.

This is great news! But what cable or satellite company has FamilyNet because I have DirectTV and I don't think I get it? I would love to be able to see Mr. Belvedere on TV again! :)

To those who have FamilyNet as well as seasons 1-4 on DVD:

Can you verify which version are they showing come tomorrow? The initial syndication run from the late 80s/early 90s with the short 30-second season 4 opening, or are they new syndication cuts?

Also, if these syndication cuts include any scenes that were included on the original ABC network airings, but not on the DVDs for some reason, please verify. Same thing goes with music and dialogue.

I don't have FamilyNet, that's why I'm asking this. I'm anxious to know.

Having just watched the first airing of Mr. Belvedere on FamilyNet, I timed the opening theme at 55 seconds.

Vahan
10-03-2011, 04:18 PM
Was the first airing the pilot episode? If so, was the opening the correct variation as well (the beige family portrait photo album)?

howierules86
10-03-2011, 04:33 PM
Yes, the first episode aired was indeed the pilot episode, and the opening I saw was a beige family portrait photo album on a black background with various photos of the cast being shown one at a time.

Vahan
10-03-2011, 04:41 PM
What about the running time? Was it a little under 22 minutes, or was it 23:23 minutes (like it is on the DVD)?

howierules86
10-03-2011, 04:48 PM
Sorry, I didn't think to time the whole episode today. (For the record, it's been years since I've seen Mr. Belvedere in reruns, and I don't have any of the DVD sets to know about any cut/uncut scenes).

One more question:

Which order are they showing the episodes in? Production or airing? Older syndicated reruns were in production order ("Gotta Dance" followed the pilot, as opposed to "The Outcasts" following the pilot).

howierules86
10-04-2011, 04:22 PM
The episode that FamilyNet aired today was "Gotta Dance."

So far this looks like new syndication reruns! AWESOME!

Too bad I'm in Arizona and my father and his new wife's cable provider is COX and they don't seem to carry FamNET. Darn it. :(

As of now, FamNET TV is now airing the Season 4 episodes and last night they showed the episode where after coming home from a date, Kevin brings home a drunken hot girl, makes out w/ her in his parents' room, all the while she drops her bottle of booze under their bed, while Wes begs his parents to convince them that he's old enough to stay home by skipping out on Mr. B's live opera show, only to end up getting framed and in trouble for messing up his parents' pillows.

To make matters more complicated, Kevin who confesses his whole mess to Wesley, tries to persuade Wes not to tell their parents about the mess he created in order to get his new car. Wes does everything in his power to tell the story to cover Kevin's tracks and all goes well...until Mr. Belvedere finds the booze...under the bed, leading Wes to get into even more trouble for not coming out and telling the real truth to begin with and Kevin also pays the price in the end in a way too.

On 12/23/2011, FamNet just showed the S6 Christmas episode where the entire Owens family auditions for a Christmas play after the director (whom earlier dropped by the Owens' house) found Mr. B. to be his perfect Mr. Scrooge after he snaps on Wes for making his mini-Fruit Cakes into pucks by saying:

Mr. B: "Wesley, you little snit. I was making mini Fruit Cakes until you turned those into little pucks!"

Wes: "Oh lighten up."

Mr. B.: "There's no Christmas for nasty boys!"

This episode is also a must-watch if you're an Ilene Graf fan as she looks really sexy in her leotard outift she wears in this episode.

NOTES:
- Tony Sheehan, one of the long-time Mr. B executive producers is notably absent in this episode since his name is not listed in the closing credits. I'm not sure if he was still w/ the show and wasn't around in this episode or he left the series around the end of S4 or some point in S5 but his name is missing from the closing credits.
- This season a slightly longer and slightly different arrangement of the 1st-half of the closing credits transition music w/ a few additional instruments.
- The closing theme tune for S6 (at least for the Christmas 1989 episode as far as I know) has the piano melody replacing the brass horns and trumpets portions of the instruments usually used in the Jazzy Big Band closing theme (used since the last quarter of S3 and the duration of S4 and S5).
- Dennis Snee takes over as one of the primary writers and lead creative consultant of the series.

Sheehan stepped down from his role as executive producer sometime around season 4. I know this for a fact, because I've seen the episodes on the official season 4 DVD set (released by Shout Factory as part of their Shout Select service).

They've now entered Season 5 territory and even though the opening credits is relatively the same as S4, I noticed that the set in Season 5, namely the kitchen and parts of the living room looked like they've gotten a slight paint-job done on the set.

Watch the opening credits and you'll notice a clip from the kitchen set you know the scene w/ Belvey dancing around in S1 episodes compared to a S5 episode and there is a slight difference in the color scheme of the set.

I too noticed several set changes over the years.

One of them was Mr. B's desktop lamp. I noticed he had at least three different models of it.

1) An old-fashioned model that lasted only the pilot
2) A modern lamp with a bright neon-green shade, as seen throughout seasons 1-4.
3) One that was similar to number 2 (and was used for the rest of the run), but now had what I think was a shade of neon teal green. Is that the right way to describe it?

megamanj2004

Yep, it's a neon teal green alright!

Good call, Vahan!

FamilyNet and Rural TV are merging on January 1, 2013. I wonder if Mr. Belvedere will continue in primetime.

Well, look on the bright side, Todd. At least FamNet had the courtesy to show this program in three cycles providing fans with plenty of post-season 4 episodes to hold them over for the time being until (hopefully) Shout! Factory continues the DVDs.

This show could not have made it past even the first season if it was rerun on ABC Family.

It better. If Mr. Belvedere, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart disappear from the line-up anytime soon then I'll be likely to have smoke coming out of my ears!

Oh Mace!!! Yeah in the LA area at 8PM they show channel 5 news. Antenna TV is affiliated with KTLA!!! That is a shame that's the time Mr. Belvedere is on Saturdays! I'm sorry! :( I watch Newhart on weekdays 7-8 and right after channel 5 news comes on!! I noticed that before when I first started watching Antenna, I was like WTF??

WOW, we were all busy with football today! But down the line after football will be sure to catch Small wonder, yeah it's corny, but I liked it back in the day, I'd love to see it again! ;) I'm glad for you that they didn't put Mr. Belvedere on at 8:00 on Sunday too because of that darn news! Glad you are getting a chance to see it! ;) I've been catching some eps on the weekdays , and it's as good as I remember. I'm really glad they brought it back! :)

Seeing the show for the first time since it ended its original run in 1990 has been a lot of fun. I love the banter between Mr. Belvedere and George the best. Heather is a totally 80's girl. Every outfit that she has worn so far her socks have matched her top.

Today's (5pm) episode is apparently the last episode before ABC pulled the plug in late 1989 and only brought it back for the series finale in late summer 1990. Everything from now until the finale was only run when the show went into syndication. Some of it was downright silly but I really didn't think season 6 was awful like some people think.
