Movie Reviews: Shark Night 3D

Movie critics finally had a chance to sink their teeth into Shark Night 3D on Friday night, lining up at the box office like everyone else after the studio decided not to show the film to them in advance.

Their criticism of the PG-13 rated horror flick was actually rather subdued.

Jeannette Catsoulis in the New York Times concluded:

“it's a movie that isn’t crummy, exactly, just blah.”

Elizabeth Weitzman in the New York Daily News reacted similarly.

“The one crime a B-movie should never commit is boring its audience. By even these low standards, Shark Night 3D is dead in the water.”

Roger Moore in the Orlando Sentinel said that the movie:

“lacks jolts, pathos or glee when this deserving character or that undeserving one becomes a shark snack. The 3D is evidence of a fad that’s faded.”

Robert Abele in the Los Angeles Times wrote that the 3D feels:

“like a vestigial gimmick.”

Likewise, Wesley Morris in the Boston Globe called the 3D:

“cheap and inconsequential.”

Linda Barnard in the Toronto Star concluded that the 3D:

“doesn’t do much besides act as a flotation device to lighten your wallet of a few extra bucks. The day filmmakers finally tire of this visual toy will be one for celebration.”
