View Full Version : Does this faze anyone else?
catlover79 09-05-2011, 09:24 PM I'll see a rerun of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on Me-TV and then right after that will be a rerun of The Dick Van Dyke Show. It's a bit jarring to see a slightly older Mary in color directly followed by younger Mary as Laura Petrie in B&W. Not quite as jarring as when one of our local stations used to air repeats of Happy Days and The Andy Griffith Show back to back. It always threw me as a youngster to see a young adult Ron Howard as Richie and right after see him as a tiny boy (Opie) in B&W. Is this just me?
dakert 09-05-2011, 10:26 PM I am sorry to say it is just you
I would rather see TDVDS and then TAGS. I dont usually like to mix the B&W with Color.
this is what I find wrong with the retro TV stations--It is mainly just a hodge-podge of shows. If you want to know how a good classic channel programs its shows--just check out Nick@ Nite from 1985-1991. Black and white heaven!!

tiredmike59 09-05-2011, 10:57 PM Our local WB station shows Matlock followed by Andy griffith show.
Thats kind of strange looking to see how much Andy changed.
He seems to have shrunk.
Marvo301 09-05-2011, 10:58 PM Actually when I first got Me-TV that was the first thing I noticed. It would make more sense if they aired TDVDS before TMTMS instead of after.
dakert 09-06-2011, 01:26 AM Marvo does your Me TV show Cannon? My Me TV got knocked off about a month ago and they said I should re-boot my channels but I have been too lazy!

That's exactly what I meant - it just jolts me for a second to see things like that. It would be if Diagnosis Murder was scheduled right before The Dick Van Dyke Show in syndication.

I have never seen Cannon on my Me-TV.
catlover79 09-06-2011, 01:31 PM We have Cannon here in the Cleveland market.
retrofan05 09-06-2011, 05:05 PM I actually like it. It's fun to see the range of classic TV shows from various decades. Although, it probably too depends on your show preferences. For instance, I wouldn't want to see an episode of Bewitched followed by Married with Children. Ugh!

Ugh, me neither. Then again, I never cared for MWC, but you get my point.
megamanj2004 09-06-2011, 06:59 PM It doesn't bother me too much.
It's sometimes fun to see how the actor from one show looks different in their other hit show and it's even more fun if their shows are back to back.
Ex's:
Mary Tyler Moore on TMTM and on Dick Van Dyke
Carroll O'Connor on AitF and on In the Heat of the Night
Sherman Hemsley on AitF, The Jeffersons and on Amen
Clifton Davis on That's My Mama and on Amen
Bob Newhart on The Bob Newhart Show and on Newhart.
Michael Landon on Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie and on Highway to Heaven.
IMO, Clifton Davis and Michael Landon look the most jarringly different in appearances on their later hit shows.

Didn't Clifton Davis have that huge 'fro going on on his earlier show? I've never seen That's My Mama - I'll have to see if I can check the DVDs out of my local library system.

Yep, Clifton Davis was sure rockin' that fro on that show! :)

Here is a picture of Clifton Davis and his "That's My Mama" co-star Theresa Merritt.
