View Full Version : One more "What if"...
In the episode Daphne Hates Sherry, what if Niles was just a touch bit more assertive that night?
If Daphne were to give into to Niles and he to her, do you think that the writers would have had Daphne blame it on circumstances and have them go back to being friends in the next several seasons?
Would it have made for stronger jokes and situations if Niles had "tasted the forbidden fruit" and then couldn't have any more?
Any thoughts???

Wow that's something to think about but when I really do think about it, if they had "had a taste" of each other that night there would have been no going back. We saw they both behaved around each other after their "first time" in Crock Tales. Once they started they couldn't stop. LOL. It sure would have made things different if they had "been together" sooner but then we wouldn't have had the great episodes we had later on. ;)
I think Daphne said it best in Crock Tales: "he's spoiled me for any other man". :P
Kristen 09-05-2011, 08:53 PM I think it would've been wrong, and out of character for them to have crossed that line then. This episode has had a number of alternate endings done in fanfiction. There's even one by yours truly, if you'd like to read it. My FF link is in my sig, and the story is called "Alone at the Montana." Sorry for the entirely shameless plug, but I couldn't resist! ;)

And I have to say that it's an amazing story and very melt-worthy! I agree that I like the way things turned out on the show, although it is fun to explore other endings via fan fiction. I think the timing of Niles and Daphne getting together was perfect.
Kristen 09-08-2011, 02:37 AM :bighug: Aww, thank you, Andrea! A compliment like that from someone whose FF name is "iloveromance" is definitely flattering! And you know I love all of your Frasier stories!

This is an interesting topic. I agree with Kristen. I think they both wanted to that night but it was based more on lust than love, which is I think what kept them from acting on it. As much as they wanted to, I think they understood that and understood the risks to their friendship. Frasier was right when he said "unconsciously you knew it wasn't right..."
But to answer the original question--
If Daphne were to give into to Niles and he to her, do you think that the writers would have had Daphne blame it on circumstances and have them go back to being friends in the next several seasons?
Would it have made for stronger jokes and situations if Niles had "tasted the forbidden fruit" and then couldn't have any more?
I think things would have gotten really awkward between them and possibly tense until they would be able to actually talk about it. After all, he was still trying to save his marriage, so imagine all the tension and maybe guilt that would have caused. I don't know that it would have made for stronger jokes but I could see the writers using it to make them either get together sooner or take even longer to get together, depending on which way the writers wanted it to go. It certainly would have blurred everything and maybe made it harder for them (mostly Daphne) to realize her true feelings.
bingbangbaby 02-28-2012, 01:56 AM By the way, I find it so funny that they had her pick that interestingly shaped strawberry and that she kept dipping it in and out of that narrow champagne glass (see first picture above). It's subtle stuff like that that make this show so brilliant.
