Hey guys,
10 years ago today, Power Ranger Fans said goodbye to The Original Yellow Power Ranger Thuy Trang
Born in Saigon, South Vietnam on December 14, 1973 and stood 5'6"
Thuy Trang was a Vietnamese American actress. She was best known for her role as Trini Kwan, the original Yellow Ranger in the TV Series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
After the fall of Saigon in 1975 to Communist forces, Trang's father who had fought in the Vietnam War, traveled to America to seek political asylum. However his entire family, unable to follow were left behind.
In 1979 Thuy and her family boarded a cargo ship with other refugee's to travel to America. However first they sailed to a detention camp in Hong Kong.
The family was finally reunited in California, America in 1980. However her father died from cancer a couple of years later.
Thuy graduated from Banning high school and earned a scholarship to study civil engineering at UC Irvine.
In 1992 Trang got interested in acting and in 1993 got her first big break when she landed the role of Trini Kwan on the original cast of the hit TV series, "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers".
In 1994 Thuy Trang left the show to pursue other interests
She's appeared in only 80 episodes
After appearing in a video documentary called the _Encyclopaedia Of Martial Arts_, as an interviewee and a cameo as a manicurist in Spy Hard, she got her next large role as Kali in The Crow: City of Angels, sequel to the 1994 Film The Crow.
Sadly, on September 3, 2001, Thuy Trang died in a car accident @ the age of 27 near San Francisco, CA.
She and former actress/model Angela Rockwood-Nguyen, wife of Actor Dustin Nguyen of TV's 21 Jump Street and Pamela Anderson's V.I.P., to whom Trang was to be a bridesmaid later that year, were passengers in a car traveling on Interstate 5 between San Francisco and Los Angeles. They were returning from visiting Rockwood-Nguyen's planned maid of honor when the driver (another of the bridesmaids) of the vehicle she was riding in lost control. The car swerved violently across the road before hitting the roadside rock face and flipping several times before hitting the safety rail and plunging over the bank.
Rockwood-Nguyen, who has claimed both that she was and was not wearing a seat belt in different interviews, survived despite being thrown out of the vehicle through a window before its final impact; she is now quadriplegic. It is thus not known whether Trang or the driver were wearing seatbelts. The driver survived the accident; however, Trang died from the injuries she had sustained.
Trang was cremated a week later on September 10; her ashes are interred at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA.
4 of her co-stars from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Amy Jo Johnson (Pink Ranger), David Yost (Blue Ranger), Walter Emanuel Jones (Black Ranger) and Austin St. John (Red Ranger) attended the funeral and memorial service
Jason David Frank who played the Original Green & later White Ranger Tommy did not attend the funeral due to the fact that his younger brother Eric died in April of that same year
Power Rangers: Time Force aired an episode entitled "Circuit Unsure" in which it was dedicated to the memory of Thuy Trang
She leaves behind only a small body of work but through them she made an impact on many.
and after 10 years, Thuy Trang is still missed by many
Thuy Trang may be gone, but her life and legacy lives on and she will forever be known as The Original Yellow Power Ranger
and that's our tribute to a woman who we've said goodbye to 10 years ago today
Thuy Trang best remembered as The Original Yellow Mighty Morphin Power Ranger
God Bless Her, may she R.I.P.
