'Barney Miller' is the only multiple-season TV series ever to win best drama or comedy once, for its final season.

Back in 1982, ABC's police-station comedy "Barney Miller" stole the Emmy as best comedy series from three-time champ "Taxi," previous winner "M*A*S*H," "Love, Sidney" and "WKRP in Cincinnati." Previously, "Barney Miller" had lost the top race six consecutive times but then finally got the last laugh as it left the airwaves. There is no other case like it in the history of the Emmys. ("My World and Welcome to It" won best comedy series for its only year on TV, 1970.)

I remember when the NHL's Dino Cicarelli of the Minnesota North Stars got sentenced to a day in jail for assaluting a player on the ice by the Toronto police department he responded by saying "The Police station in Toronto is something out of Barney Miller"

I burst out laughing when I heard that!!

'Barney Miller' deserved to win an Emmy. In fact it deserved to win several Emmys.

To this day I've never seen a single episode. I've seen a few minutes before but it never made me laugh so I changed the channel.

Is Barney Miller himself still alive? How come you never see him anywhere after Barney Miller?

Hal Linden, who played Barney, is still alive and well at age 80. He never got another long-running show, but tried with Blacke's Magic and The Boys Are Back, both of which only saw one season. He mainly focuses on stage work and charities these days.

To this day my only Barney Miller memory is that memorable Dino Cicarelli quote!

It's surprising that Hal Linden never even took a supporting role anywhere. He kinda disappeared from TV completely!

Didn't he pop up on Hot in Cleveland?

Didn't he pop up on Hot in Cleveland?

Yup - he played Wendie Malick's dad, if I'm not mistaken.
