Hi there! Does anyone remember a segment about a young black woman who was killed by her boyfriend or maybe it was an ex. The details are sketchy but an onlooker who saw them in a supermarket parking lot remembered the woman because she was very attractive but I think her boyfriend was roughing her up and then he dragged her away. Don't think she was ever seen again after that. Sorry for being so vague but it was a long time ago.

Are you thinking of Rebecca Young? Police suspected an ex-bf and it was witnessed by a man calling himself Antonio hunting in a field

Seems like Veronica was the victim of a serial killer, Alfredo Prieto. This entire case was built around the witness that saw the black man irritating Veronica in the grocery store. They even had the composite shown on UM, clearly showing a man that looked nothing like Prieto. So either the witness was mistaken, or this poor guy was pegged as a murder suspect for something he had no connection to whatsoever.
EDIT - It's also a huge FAIL on the part of LE when they determined that the DNA Profile of the murderer of Warren Fulton and Rachel Raver was a "black male", when in reality it was a hispanic man, Alfredo Preito who killed them as well as Veronica.

Agreed. It was also stupid that they wouldn't even look into similarities between the two cases and put so much weight on the possibility that Veronica knew her killer. They should have investigated the avenue. And just because one case was a couple and one was someone by herself, or people of different races doesn't mean they shouldn't have looked, either (I believe these were the arguments given). Often serial killers do tend to target their own race (or one race) but nothing is absolute. I'm just glad that even with these investigative oversights that the killer was finally caught.

well I just watched this case again. This is one of the more interesting UM segments out there. I never paid that close of attention to it before when I watched it previously. I'm glad this suspect was caught. What I will say is that police and technology actually did a great job in apprehending this suspect. He left behind a lot of physical evidence and it was able to be linked across all of his crimes.
As someone of hispanic culture I feel safe to comment on this with some knowledge. Many hispanics can resemble traits of african/black(and vice versa), in fact some hispanics are black as well. So in this case if the LE only had physical evidence they were going off of these traits and it was not a failure in my opinion.

They weren't going off of traits, they specifically said the DNA profile fit a black man. Prieto was not african american in any way shape or form.

And that is what matters most.

no he was hispanic, but some hispanics can also be of african heritage as well. therefore their dna would. that's what I meant to say. I don't know if prieto had african roots, but I know many hispanic people who do. just saying maybe that's why that came up....
