Dan Aykroyd Drops Signficant Ghostbusters 3 Details
Source: Dennis Miller Radio
August 25, 2011

After years of rumors, it appears that Ghostbuster 3 is finally moving forward and will likely do so with or without Bill Murray's involvement.

Dan Aykroyd appeared on 'The Dennis Miller Show' to discuss the project, dropping specific details about the sequel, hinting that the plan is to film in Spring of 2012 no matter what happens casting-wise.

"Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray. That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that 'Ghostbusters' is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold Ramis, myself and Sigourney Weaver.

The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of 'Ghostbusters 3' is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood."

The comedian also confirmed reports that the plot will revolve around a new generation of Ghostbusters and hinted at the states of his and Ramis' characters.

"My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac. He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness.

We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation."

As for who might be cast as the new characters, Aykroyd says that, while no decision has been made, he does have a fondness for one piece of prospective casting.

"I like this guy Matthew Gray Gubler from the 'Criminal Minds' show, but there's going to be a casting. We're going to see everyone that wants to do it. We're going to need... three guys and a young woman."

If there is a new cast instead of the 4 returning, Ghostbusters 3 is going to bomb

Nobody cares about "new blood"...the truth is that this franchise isn't about the "ghostbusters" concept, it has been and always will be about the three main stars, and without Murray, it's going to bomb.

Honestly, though I liked the first one, I always kind of wondered why it was so incredibly popular. Funny? Yes. Deserving of the ridiculous box office and praise it received? No.

You mean 4, you forgot Ernie Hudson, it is a shame that Ernie is the forgotten one, not sure why...

No I didn't forget him, I just don't think his presence was key to the movie's success. Nothing against the actor, I just didn't see that role as nearly as essential as the others.

In the first film, Ernie Hudson was billed eighth in the cast credits (after William Atherton). I never understood the reasoning there. He was part of the team; he should have had fourth billing (after Murray, Aykroyd and Ramis).

Dan Aykroyd Shreds Ghostbusters 3 Rumors
Monday, February 13, 2012
By: MrDisgusting

Empire recently hosted a webchat with Dan Aykroyd who once again talked about the rumored Ghostbusters 3.

The site reports that Aykroyd hinted that Bill Murray may not return as Peter Venkman, and that the character could be played by a different actor, a la Jack Ryan.

As for the internet rumor that Murray recently shredded a Ghostbusters 3 script and sent it back with a note that said, "No-one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts," Aykroyd denied it with vigour.

"Bill Murray is not capable of such behavior. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in 'Ghostbusters 3' has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work."

As for the delay, he explains, "The script must be perfect. We cannot release a film that is any less than that. We have more work to do."

Confirming earlier reports, Aykroyd also drops this juicy nugget about a returning character - the reclusive Rick Moranis as Louis Tully:

"If we can get the script to 'Ghostbusters 3' right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant."

Dan Aykroyd Says Bill Murray Too Busy With Life for Ghostbusters 3
Wednesday, February 29, 2012
By: MrDisgusting

Dan Aykroyd did a recent interview with The Daily Telegraph where he mentioned that Bill Murray is "too busy" to do Ghostbusters 3.

"I honestly don't know. At this point it's in suspended animation. The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie. He doesn't want to be involved. He's got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He's into this life and living it.

I know we'd have a lot of fun, but I can't be mad at him. He's a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn't want to know."

He's recently begun to consider recasting Murray's role with another actor. It's also been suggested that he could return as a CGI ghost...

"We're not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I'm the cheerleader, but I'm only one voice in the matter. It's a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio."

Arguably, a better time to do Ghostbusters III would've have been around 1995-97 (when Dan Aykroyd cameoed as Ray Stanz in Casper and when the Extreme Ghosbusters cartoon was on the air).

Dan sounds like a used car salesman. Oh yeah buy into this and all the sequels so me and my family can rake in royalties, endorsements, advertising $.

Bill Murray: Ghostbusters 3 "Is A Possibility"
By Christopher Rosen
04/16/2012

Bill Murray did a recent interview with WGN-TV sports anchor Pat Tomasulo, before offering the briefest of brief updates about the long-gestating Ghostbusters 3.

When asked by Tomasulo if the project was a possibility Murray echoed, "Well, it's a possibility," but he then shifted into discussion about his actual movies, like Moonrise Kingdom.

So, where does that leave Ghostbusters 3? Probably in the same place it has been for a while: nowhere.

You know, I'll say one thing for Bill Murray. In an age where everyone in Hollywood is trying to look 25 regardless of their true age, Murray just seems very comfortable with himself. He's let himself go gray, quite bald, doesn't try to hide his wrinkles, etc. I think it takes a real confidence to do that and I admire it.

Dear Mr. Murray,

I'm a huge fan of your work, up to and including your more pretentious latter-day films and your Zombieland cameo. I've loved your movies for as long as I can remember.

Having said that, you seem like an insufferable douche off-screen. Please quit holding this movie and Ghostbusters fans hostage with your giant ego.

With love,
Earth

Sony Hires New Writer for Ghostbusters 3
By Jeff Sneider
July 10, 2012

Who you gonna call if you're Sony Pictures and you want to reboot the lucrative Ghostbusters franchise? How about Men in Black 3 scribe Etan Cohen, who has been tapped to rewrite Ghostbusters 3 for the studio.

"The Office" scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were hired in September 2008 to revive the blockbuster franchise that started in 1984 with Ivan Reitman's Ghostbusters. At the time, the supernatural action-comedy was Columbia Pictures' highest-grossing film ever, until it was beaten by Men in Black and then Spider-Man.

The third installment is expected to find original cast members Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray passing the torch to a new generation of ghostbusters.

Cohen is repped by CAA, Mosaic and attorney Peter Nichols.

Ghostbusters 3 Hires New Writer, Will Feature 'New Generation' Cast
8/2/2012
by Jordan Zakarin

Bill Murray may be out, but Dan Aykroyd hasn't stopped chasing the ghost.

The 60-year-old comedic actor has long pursued making a third Ghostbusters film, but was in part stymied by series co-star Murray's refusal to join in. In late February, Aykroyd admitted he couldn't get Murray to budge; fast forward to this week, and he's told the UK's Metro newspaper that there is a whole new concept at hand for the film.

"We've got a brilliant new writer on it and we'll be passing the torch on to a new generation," Aykroyd said. "We're working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I'm confident we'll be in production in the next year."

As for Murray, he added, "It's sad but we're passing it on to a new generation. 'Ghostbusters 3' can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one."

I hate that Murray has hung up with project for so long, but honestly, nobody is going to see this because of Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, or Ernie Hudson, for that matter. Aykroyd's box office mojo went south a long time ago, Ramis, a good writer, never really had box office mojo, and Hudson...well, he's not going to get many butts in the seats either.

And NOBODY cares about "new blood" for this franchise. Like so many successful series, the appeal was the original characters and without those, the concept itself is just silly and outdated.

Let it die, Dan.

If the original cast is not going to be in it, then shouldn't they just do a remake instead of a #3? Like a brand new version of the GB? They are doing that with allot of stories.

At the rate they're going, they may have to do a Bubba Ho-Tep and set the thing in a nursing home.
