Is the 1980's Newhart show separate from The Bob Newhart Show (1970's)? Or does Newhart pick up where The Bob Newhart Show ended? I have only seen the first four seasons of The Bob Newhart Show since seasons 5 and 6 aren't available on dvd. I have never seen Newhart.

Newhart is a completely different series from The Bob Newhart Show. In Newhart Bob plays do-it-yourself book author Dick Loudon who with his wife Joanna purchases the Stratford Inn a colonial Inn in Vermont. They inherit its staff which is made up of quirky handyman George Utley and rich girl turned maid Leslie Vanderkellen. (who would be replaced in season 2 by her cousin Stephanie Vanderkellen)

I was just thinking about which actors had multiple appearances on both series...? Tom Poston is the first who comes to mind.

I was just thinking how many of his TBNS cast members had appearances on both shows. Of course Tom Poston, Bill Daily, Marcia Wallace I think was on an episode or two...

Jack Riley (Elliott Carlin) also made an appearance on Newhart.

Will Mackenzie, who played Carol's husband, Larry Bondurant, played a key role in the 1980s Newhart. He never actually appeared on camera, but he directed many episodes. Mr. Mackenzie also directed many Family Ties episodes during the same time period as well.

Not to give anything away, but Suzanne Pleshette (Emily) played a small but crucial role in the series finale of 1980s Newhart. Sheer brilliance!!! :cool: :D

I will never, ever forget watching that last episode with my mom and grandma. The two of them howled with laughter when that scene happened. Having only seen the 1980s show, I didn't get the joke at the time. :lol:
