View Full Version : Long running shows that DIDN'T have a pregnancy
A lot of long running shows had pregnancies ranging from happy days to night court, it was more unusual for a show not to have a pregancy later in their run. Specifically I mean pregnancies among regular or frequently recurring cast members. IE shows that didn't use a preganancy as a 'jump the shark' device like frasier and others.
Off the top of my head.....
Mr belvedere
Family matters

I'd say I Dream of Jeannie, but I remember that she and tony had kids according ro the two larry hagman-less reunion movies.
Marvo301 08-22-2011, 09:49 PM M*A*S*H never had a pregnancy (unless you count farm animals!) although there was a pregnancy scare in one episode. Margaret Houlihan thought she was pregnant but thanks to a contribution from Radar's pet rabbit Hawkeye was able to determine Margaret was not pregnant.
Regulus 08-22-2011, 10:19 PM Lassie! Although new kids were introduced from time to time, it wasn't because their Parents had em! :D

Actually, Mr. Belvedere did have pregnancies. I remember one episode from the second season where Kevin's girlfriend delivered a baby in the house, and another in season 4, where Kevin becomes a nurse, and witnesses a pregnancy regarding a Latin-American couple.
ILUVO&H 08-22-2011, 11:17 PM Ozzie and Harriet was on 14 years and never had any pregnancies. In real life Dave and Rick and their wives had children, but they weren't written into the show.

benjamoon 08-23-2011, 03:40 PM ^^ None of the main characters had pregnancies but there was an episode of "Family Affair" dealing with a pregnant friend (played by Linda Kaye Henning)
I'll throw in:
Adventures of Superman
Batman
The Bob Newhart Show (though Carol was supposedly pregnant in one episode and then it was never heard of again)
The Lucy Show
Here's Lucy
Taxi
I meant regular cast pregnancies, not a random plot where a guest star gives borth in a car.

Does this show count? I remember the episode where we were introduced to Oliver and Cindy & Bobby misunderstood what Carol was talking about with the "7th child" so Cindy went and told her sisters that their mother was expecting.

Yeah, but it was a guest character that happened to, not a regular character.

She gave birth five times during the Series 19 year run. (Bear in mind that the dogs who played Lassie were all Males so in reality, they couldn't have pups (But they could make them)!
The Episodes were:
Season One "Lassie's Pups"
Season Five "Puppy Story"
Season Six "Puppy Sitter"
Season Nine "Lassie and the Eagle"
Season 17 "Lassie's Interlude", "The Birth, "The Survival", "The Miracle", "The Innocents", "The Offering", "Natures Child" - A Seven-Part "Series within a Series" also called "The Saga of Lassie's Pups".
Thanks to y2k3 Joker I've been able to see all of these Episodes (Along with the rest of this Series). :D
McGillicuddy 08-24-2011, 06:17 PM I forgot Lassie was portrayed by male dogs! Must have been tricky to have her(him) nursing the pups!

UMFaninMD 08-24-2011, 09:23 PM None of the regular characters on Punky Brewster got pregnant, which is a good thing, since you only had Punky, Cherie, Allen, Margaux, who were all kids, Henry and Mike, who couldn't anyways, and Mrs. Johnson, who was too old.
The Incredible Hulk (two guest characters had babies but then again, there were only really three main characters in the whole series).
