View Full Version : Was 'The Parkers' The WORST Sitcom to Ever Reach 100 Episodes?!?
Brian Damage 08-21-2011, 11:03 AM Running for five painful seasons between 1999 and 2004, the sitcom was quite possibly the worst show ever to surpass 100 episodes.

An 80s Guy 08-21-2011, 10:52 PM I thought it was pretty good.
waichingliu81 08-22-2011, 08:29 PM i've seen worst shows than the parkers. i thought it was hilarious. and i'm glad it was so different to its spin-off moesha, which was more of a dramedy than an sitcom.
CaliforniaKid 09-05-2011, 12:37 PM It's back on BET starting tomorrow hopefully I can record the few episodes I'm missing.

megamanj2004 09-06-2011, 07:37 PM I happened to love this show! Heck IMO I loved it much more than I ever did for Moesha. ;)
NathanBarley 09-07-2011, 05:24 AM I completely forgot about this programme. I remember seeing it advertised a lot as a kid, and watched a few episodes to see what it was like. It was absolutely dreadful. I really cannot believe it made it past 100episodes, I always thought it was cancelled after the first season. This was just awful.
Bronson 01-08-2013, 04:24 PM It was a good progam. Did have some scenes that were absurd sure but I have seen worst. I do remember one episode where Kim was working at the basement of a clothing store and she and her crass friend walk up to the boss's daughter and say, "Is he your daddy or sugar daddy?" Now you would have to be lowclasee to come to anyone like that.
I loved the show and all of the characters.
darkrage6 03-05-2013, 10:51 PM I thought this show was hilarious as well, I can name dozens of sitcoms that were WAAAAAYYYY worse(Anyone remember "The Secret Diary Of Desmond Pffeifer"?)
king of comedy 03-19-2013, 08:14 PM This was one of the worst shows ever. I couldn't stand Monique chasing the professor. He didn't want her. I wished it had been cancel after 1 season.

One of the worst ever? No way in hell! I didn't mind that storyline too much.
You want to see a REALLY bad sitcom? Try Cavemen. That show was so unbelievably horrible that I couldn't watch more then 5 minutes of it without wanting to kill myself(or the execs who thought making a sitcom out of an ad campaign was a good idea).
irehtman 08-22-2013, 11:22 AM Martin, Living Single, The Jamie Foxx Show and The Parkers are four classic African-American comedies.
In The Parkers, whatever they are doing in that show is true in real life of Cybill Shepherd, no offense.

Now you have it in for Cybil Shepherd.
irehtman 08-23-2013, 07:39 AM You know who is Cybill Shepherd and what she looks like?
king of comedy 08-23-2013, 07:58 AM You know who is Cybill Shepherd and what she looks like? She is a Caucasian actress who starred in Moonlightning Bruce Willis. My favorite African American Sitcoms where Family Matters and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
irehtman 08-23-2013, 10:45 AM Exactly. Monique Imes Jackson was like Cybill Shepherd type in real life.
SitcomsOffline 01-08-2014, 03:38 PM The Parkers may not have been in the same class as Cheers, Frasier, I Love Lucy, etc., but it most certainly wasn't the worst show either.
irehtman 01-08-2014, 04:41 PM I know this show was not like Cheers, Frasier, I Love Lucy or etc. at all, whatever Nikki Parker character, played by Mo'Nique Imes-Jackson, is doing in The Parkers, is really true to actress Cybill Shepherd's real life.
Of course, Cybill Shepherd used to have her own comedy, "Cybill" back in the early 90's, but got cancelled and the information of that show was recycled into this show, which is "The Parkers". Please do not get me wrong about this.
I know "The Parkers" is a african-american sitcom, but unfortunately, all Caucasian critics, all Caucasian viewers and some Caucasian fans were invited to watch "The Parkers", because this is true in real life of Caucasian people, even if the culture is all African-American, no offense.

I'm not sure I understand. What are you trying to say here?
What difference does it make if a Caucasian or African-American, etc. is viewing the show? Unless a TV show is going for a really niche audience, with primetime sitcoms I would think most would want to have as broad an audience as possible- so hopefully African-Americans and Caucasian-Americans and Asian-Americans and Hispanic-Americans and Indian-Americans and Native Americans, etc. would all enjoy it.

I'll take A Differant World over The Parkers. If Monique was after me in real life, I'll have her arrested and throw away the key.

I watched all of two minutes of it once. Horrible! To call it dumbed down swill is an insult to dumbed down swill.
Ant-Lox 01-09-2014, 06:12 AM I liked it, it was a fun show.
irehtman 01-09-2014, 11:36 AM Everybody was wondering it is Kim or Nikki or both? It's turns out the focus was on Nikki, she is the main character of this show and whatever she is doing in this show is true in real life of actress Cybill Shepherd, no offense.
MacLeaper 01-09-2014, 01:10 PM I still don't get the Cybill Shepherd connection, but okay. I don't know much on her or this show though...
irehtman 01-10-2014, 11:34 AM It is the recycled Caucasian negative life of Cybill Shepherd that is applied into this show. Cybill tried this in her own comedy show, but ended up short-lived and thrown away. This show adopt this information.

Don't expect to get a straight answer, he'll just repeat the same "explanation" over and over again.
James"Thunder"Early 01-10-2014, 12:34 PM I liked it, it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was fun.

Um.....interesting.:eek3:
Ant-Lox 01-13-2014, 06:57 AM Apparently, Cybil Shepherd's sitcom used the same premise.
Cybil is "white" where Monique is "black" therefore the Negative (reversing colors) term works in his argument.
He apparently holds a grudge against Monique for using the same idea, which is not really all that original to begin with.

I am not against Monique Imes Jackson, the majority type critics understand that whatever Monique is doing in "The Parkers" is really true to all the majority women in real life, excluding African-American culture, especially this show is true to actress Cybill Shepherd's real life, no offense. I know this is not for majority fans to watch, even if it acts to annihilated to the public, but now this time, some majority fans can join in to watch this show anytime. The African-Americans are trying to do in the pesent on what majorities cannot do in the past.
irehtman 08-26-2022, 10:01 AM This sitcom is supposed to be an "annihilated in the hood" urban sitcom type, that's why.
nightcrawler 12-14-2025, 07:49 PM I love The Parker's till this day. it is just funny and over the top.
it didn't ave to be like real life, a little fantasy is fine.
it was just a funny show, and I still laugh at it till this day.
