I remember those "FYI" segments Hal Linden hosted, which ran between ABC soap operas in the early-80's. There are a few of those on YouTube. One I particularly remember was where he said to swallow a tablespoon of sugar to stop hiccups. (How come the one episode you remember of something isn't on YouTube?)

Hal won three Emmys for the FYI spots (but oddly enough, never won for Barney Miller, despite being nominated 7 times for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series). Here's a small sampling of FYI:
