yesterday, Notorious (American Justice) with Bill Kurtis showed the episode about the Linda Sobek case. I have the UM update to this case, but don't recall ever seeing the actual segment, so it was pretty nice to finally get some details on this one.

The UM update mentioned a possible link to the Kimberly Pandillos murder, and how Charles Rathbun could have been responsible for both slayings. The update mentions that Rathbun was arrested and had claimed Sobek died during a car accident.

Here is some of what was on the Notorious episode

-it was determined Sobek had disappeared while meeting Rathbun for an outdoor photo shoot. (Pandillos met her killer the same way). Sobek had met Rathbun at a parking lot at a Denny's restaurant (Pandillos and her killer met at the same location, however Pandillos's killer turned out to be someone else.) The hourlong show never mentions Pandillos. A police officer interviewed said that the location where Sobek's (and Pandillos) body was found is a popular dumping spot for murder victims.

-Just as the authorities were closing in on Rathbun, he attempted suicide. However, he lived. During his arrest, a shot from his gun went off, grazing someone else's arm. He was placed in custody, and again attempted suicide, slitting his wrists and writing that he didn't mean to harm Sobek, said note being wrote in his blood.

-Rathbun stated that Sobek died during a car accident. He panicked and buried the body. However, the injuries were not consistent with that of a vehicular death. Rathbun later claimed that Sobek died during rough sex, however this was also proved false. the jury found Rathbun guilty pretty early on, and he was given life without the possibility of parole.

-talk about how both Sobek and Rathbun were excelling in their careers. Sobek was scheduled for a wardrobe fitting for Married...With Children on the day she died. Rathbun, a photographer, had shot the covers for several of the auto industry's top magazines.

I am authoring a dvd set of Notorious and this starts off the 8th disc. I just finished authoring my Our House set, so this is my next project. :)
