As an avid tv watcher, Im sure you've noticed all the marathons that are on all the time.
Americas Next Top Model, Millionaire Matchmaker, The Kardashians, Psych, NCIS, Criminal Minds, etc. It seems like most of the channels these days have marathons of shows everyday. My questions are, do you think this over exposes shows? Also, when did these networks start showing marathons on cable? I think sometimes these marathons are lazy ways of putting shows on w/o thinking about showing old shows or different shows.

This was one of the factors that eventually made me discontinue my Cable TV Subscription back in 2007. I'd tune into a Channel, see that the series being aired was not to my liking, check the guide and find that was the ONLY series thay were showing, ALL DAY! :(

As always, the primary reason they do this is Money. A Station can do a marathon with minimal manpower, which means less people to pay, and more to the Shareholders. :mad: :angryfire

What goes around, comes around. Cable Companies are now LOSING Customers, who are now seeking their Entertainment needs elsewhere. :wave:

Marathons are just another cheap way for alot of cable stations to do what they do best--show commercials.--That is the ONLY thing these stations care about.

I remember when they would only air marathons during long holiday weekends as TV networks felt that most viewers would not be home to watch. Now, cable channels air marathons every single weekend on top of holidays and even during daytime programming and of course it's always shows I can't stand. Well, that leaves more time for the computer. :lol:

I know, it's like "Hey do have an (Insert show) marathon because we feel like it" mentality that the programer have now,and i don't like it at all.

Take the USA channel as an example.They air Law and Order shows all day and almost every day,along with that NCIS or whatever it's called.And they have been doing it for a long time.Now, I don't watch those shows or those pathetic stations,but even for fans of those shows,who in their right mind would still be watching those shows when they literally have run the sprockets off them.

Totally agree LUNCH. I mean when you have these marathons your over exposing the shows. Look at Hallmark Channel. How many marathons can you have of I Love Lucy, Frasier, The Golden Girls etc.? And even when there are not having marathons of those shows, they run them into the ground because they are on so often.

You know I do notice that.

It's like the major companies of the big networks are buying all the cable channels and using those cable channels as dumping grounds for reruns of a lot of the network and/or cable shows.

I dont think the marathons are going to stop anytime soon. I just think that doing that your going to over expose your shows. I think marathons should be for special days like holidays.
