INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say they have confirmed at least four deaths after a stage collapsed during a storm at the Indiana State Fair, where country act Sugarland was set to perform.

Indiana State Police said the number of people hurt has risen to about 40, with their injuries ranging from minor to serious. The incident happened Saturday night at the fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

Strong winds caused the stage rigging for the outdoor concert to collapse, trapping and injuring concert-goers shortly before 9 p.m.

Witnesses say no one was performing at the time. The opening act had finished, and the crowd was waiting for Sugarland to take the stage.

The collapse came as thousands of concert-goers were being evacuated from the fairground grandstand to a nearby coliseum.

That storm came up suddenly. I was at the fair earlier in the day, but I left by the time the storm came. A friend mine kids were at the concert, but luckily they got out all right. My prayers goes out to those people and their families who were killed and injured.

WOW!!! I'm glad you and your friends got out of the fair safely. Still, you must be pretty shaken up. :bighug:

So sad. I was just there last weekend :( I was really worried, my uncle and his wife were planning on taking their kids there this weekend. So far I haven't received any news, so I assume they're all okay...

Still just a tragedy. I'm so sorry for those that were hurt in this.

Thanks catlover! Yeah I was a little shaken up because usually I stay at the fair until it gets dark, but my sister wants to go with me this week. So I just did the rides and went home instead of looking at exhibits also. We plan to go later this week to at look at exhibits

I saw that on CNN Sunday afternoon. Just horrible news. Another reason why I don't like outdoor concerts.
