View Full Version : Cable lost another one
tiredmike59 08-13-2011, 04:52 PM My brother-in-law was over last night watching me flip through my channels,I went from Hazel on Antenna-tv to Route 66 on My family tv to 12 O'clock high on MeTV and then to an old movie on THIS tv. He said, " I thought you didn't have cable ? " I told him I didn't. He said, " You mean all these are on free tv ? " I said yes. He said he was going to cancel his cable this weekend.
My sister called me this morning and told me he was up all night on the internet checking out the shows and schedules of those free channels.
Now I have to hook up an antenna for him and the digital converter box that he bought years back and never used. I don't mind, I like doing that kind of stuff.
TVFactFan 08-13-2011, 05:26 PM 2 Channels would never make me give up cable especally since I'm a sports fan. I take it this guy doesn't like sports?
tiredmike59 08-13-2011, 05:42 PM He's like me, loves football.
But there is enough football on Fox,CBS and the other network channels that last all sunday.

Monday Football is on ESPN except for when a team in your local area is on Monday Night
Thursday Football is on the NFL Network
LUNCH 08-13-2011, 05:47 PM I think as more people find out about these free and in the case of stations like Me-tv,Antenna-tv etc. far superior television stations alot more will be cancelling cable.

Have you seen the weekend schedule for Antenna TV? Complete garbage
Regulus 08-15-2011, 05:28 AM You are not alone, last week it was reported that during the last three months Pay-TV LOST 200,000 - 450,000 Customers. Some are blaming what else, the :( :angryfire economy :angryfire  :( but get this. The Pay TV industry was UNAFFECTED by the last three recessions (1980-1982, 1990-1991 and 2001-2002). The QUALITY of what was being offered on TV then was FAR SUPERIOR to what's being passed off as    :rotflmao: programming :rotflmao:    these days.
A house divided against itself cannot stand. People are cancelling their subscriptions because they realise thay are no longer getting their money's worth. They have gotten fed up with paying more and more money for less and less variety, not to mentioned that what they were watching has become INFESTED with over 20 minutes of commercials per hour! Many are now seeking their entertainment needs elsewhere, and Pay-TV is beginning to reap what they have sown.

Unfortunately where I live, I can't get one channel without cable. There's too many mountains around here.
yankeesrj12 08-15-2011, 12:27 PM Yeah, I'll never give up cable.

sadly this is true if not for sports I would probably have dumped my satellite by now, as it is I reduced my bill quite a bit.

I always say at work it's easier for a woman or a non-sports to cancel cable than someone who is a sports fanatic. I remember wanting cable at the age of 12 so I could get the ESN channel which showed Sunday night NFL football.
Back in 1988 the TV Guide described ESPN as ESN and I had no what it was-lol

ESPN, The NFL Network and The TBS Networks that carry the NCAA Basketball Tournament and the baseball playoffs. I'd be lost without them. I guess us sports fans put up with alot. lol
ryan423 08-15-2011, 04:46 PM FX, TNT, TBS, USA, ABC Family, HBO... I think these are the only cable channels I really ever watch. Frankly though, between the availability of episodes of shows online the next day, my TV on DVD collection, and Netflix, I would probably get rid of cable if I was living alone...
MrCleveland 08-15-2011, 04:49 PM I believe that stations like AntennaTV, MeTV, RTV, and This will get bigger and there may be one that has shows from Warner Brothers, FOX, and others.

I still can't get them without cable.
TKMetal 08-15-2011, 05:42 PM RTV, Antenna TV, Me TV are all in my market, now if only I could get them in (I was able to get RTV prior to digital switch). I get three versions of TheCoolTV though :/.
comedyfreak 08-15-2011, 11:23 PM I dumped my cable about 3 years ago I have Dish Network now and I'm happy with their service.
