Nightwish Imaginarium Film Now in Production
by Gregory Burkart
August 8, 2011

Finland-based Gothic metal group Nightwish have spent the past three years planning a combination of major motion picture and concept album titled Imaginarium... and now according to a new announcement on the band's official site, the film is ready to go before the cameras next month.

With a budget of $3.7 million (partially funded by a grant from the Finnish Film Foundation), Imaginarium tells the tale of a dying man who travels back to his childhood with the power of his imagination in an attempt to cheat death.

The story is based on a concept by Nightwish songwriter Tuomas Holopainen, who worked on the script with director Stobe Harju.

"The script is fantastic," the band declared in the new update.

"It's about life, and the little spark of light you see during the darkest and most hopeless times. The same spark we've had to find over and over again during the process of making this film happen."

With production scheduled to begin next month, the band and filmmakers are now heavily involved in the creation of props, costumes, effects and rehearsals, as well as adapting songs from the album into the film's score.

Casting is also complete, although the band is keeping the actors' names secret for now.

While the movie release plans are still up in the air, the now-completed album is tentatively scheduled to drop in early 2012.

The first single – and a trailer for the movie – are also set for release before the end of this year, and the band is planning a massive stage show at Universal City, CA on January 21st to kick off their promotional tour for the album and film.

Stay tuned for more updates as they roll in!

Nightwish Unveils 'Imaginaerum' Album Details
by Gregory Burkart
Sept. 9, 2011

Last month, we tipped you off to the upcoming dark fantasy film and concept album Imaginaerum (originally titled Imaginarium) from internationally famed gothic-metal band Nightwish.

Now the band has come forward with a mountain of info about the album, which is due later this year.

According to band founder Tuomas Holopainen, the image shown above – rendered by artist Toxic Angel – was meant to be on the inside of the digipak foldout, but it was so impressive that he changed his mind.

"I believe this is Toxic Angel's finest piece of work yet," said Tuomas, "capturing the deepest essence of what Imaginaerum is all about. The power of imagination and places of wordless wonders, magic and awe, of longing and the surreal.

I emphasized from the start that not a single living thing should be seen in the picture, and Toxic was able to create that sublime but desolate, 'all this waiting for you, and you only' feeling... All you need is the courage to enter."

You can see a high-quality version of this foldout at the band's official site - http://www.nightwish.com/en/imaginaerumteaser

'Imaginaerum's' songs examine human dreams and nightmares through the setting of a magic carnival, and Holopainen says they will explore everything from mermaids and enchanted snowmen to childhood fears of "monsters in the closet, squealing pigs, hordes of spiders and flesh-ripping harpies" – but ultimately, the album's main concept is "a celebration of life and existence."

[News Bites] Nightwish

By: Jonny B.

Nightwish have announced January 10th, 2012 as the release date for their upcoming album 'Imaginaerum'. It's their first new release since 2007's 'Dark Passion Play', their first album with new singer Anette Olzon.

This new album is going to also be the soundtrack to a feature film with the same name.

Keyboardist/songwriter Tuomas Holopainen states:

"It was important from the very beginning that the album would work as its own individual piece of art, as well. It is a thematic album about life itself, about imagination, love, goodness and beauty, with a touch of darkness and melancholy, which are strongly included in all of those things mentioned."
