One thing I noticed about this show is that the music supervision in the earlier episodes was done by legendary 20th Century Fox music supervisor Lionel Newman, and the additional music was done by Ben Lanzarone (Ilene Graff's real-life husband), in the later ones. Newman was only on the first season of the show. My question is, wasn't Newman responsible for licensing existing songs/scores, or creating new songs/scores, while Lanzarone composed background music for the shows later scenes (like the montage scene in "Kevin Nightingale" for example)?

The job of a music supervisor is to pick appropriate songs to be used in a TV show or movie and then to negotiate the legal rights to use those songs and finally to integrate the music into the TV show or movie.

Actually, Lionel Newman worked on both seasons 1 and 2. You probably think the two were just one whole season due to the fact that season 1 was very truncated due to the show premiering as a mid season replacement.

Also seasons 1 and 2 were released together in one boxed set on DVD.
