Why do some of the girls wear blue ties but others wear red ones?

I don't know. I've wondered that too. Some wear blue sweaters with red ties and others wear red vests with blue ties. Blair always wore a red vest and blue tie. I don't think I ever saw here wear a blue sweater and red tie. Natalie always wore a blue sweater and red tie. I never saw her wear a red vest and blue tie except very briefly in one Season 4 episode. Strangely, though, Jo and Tootie wore both uniforms at different times in different episodes. Very unusual.

I am a fairly new fan of the show so these unusual questions like this will arise.:)

Thanks

Maybe the upper class or higher grade had to wear different colors. Or maybe they got to pick their uniform styles.

I don't think the tie-color had any signficance in terms of being an upper or lower classman. Tootie is wearing a blue tie (with the red vest) in a couple of S2 episodes. I think it was just a matter of having some variety/options within the uniform.

What I have noticed is that Blair wore her Eastland blazer far more frequently than the others (I can't recall Jo ever wearing one). I think it was partly because Blair tended to dress a little more formally, period, but also to give Lisa "longer-line" and make her appear a little slimmer. Simlarly, I also noticed that around S3, the red vest changed from a three-button vest, to slightly longer four-button vest....again, for a more slimming look.
