Personally, I wasn't that impressed with the look of the place. I mean this guy was a millionaire?!?

Conspicuous consumption didn't become chic until the mid 80s and the show started in the early 80s. Also, what looks dated and shabby now was fresh and new back then.

I do agree that both DS and FoL looked "cheap" by today's standards since they were shot on video rather than film, but most late 70's shows look that way to me.

A millionaire living in Manhattan is almost considered middle class. A 3 bedroom apartment w/a doorman in Manhattan now starts at roughly $5k/month.

True Mr. Drummond's Penthouse would certainly look differently today. More of what you would expect of a millionaire.

I thought the penthouse was pretty cool for a 8 year old watching the show in 1978.The stairs are great.

I'm sure I was more impressed when I watched this show as a kid in the 80s. Not every rich person flaunts their wealth. Maybe Mr. Drummond wanted his home to have a more comfortable look and feel.

As a kid watching this show, I never gave their home a second thought. Considering i've never heard anyone question the way their home looked....I bet the average viewer didn't think about it.

I always loved the penthouse. I think Arnold and Willis had a realy nice bedroom. It was the kind of bedroom I always wished I could of had when I was little. Considering the bedroom that I had when I was a kid was like the smallest room in my familys house.

I liked it even better when Maggie redecorated in 1985. The trendy modern 80's look. It sooo defined 80's. LOL.

Considering that they lived in New York City? Absolutely. Even today, a property that size would probably run you a pretty penny.
