The price of movie tickets hit a new high in the second quarter of this year climbing to $8.06, according to the National Association of Theater Owners.

That means the price of a ticket is up more than 5% over the average for 2010 which was $7.89. That 39 cent increase in the average is one of the biggest such increases in history.

This is not the first time the average price has risen above $8 however. It was $8.01 in the fourth quarter of 2010, but then fell to $7.86 in the first quarter of this year.

Much of the increase is attributed to the premium charge for 3D movies. Even though the attendance at 3D pictures has been softer than expected for many films this year, there have been enough successful films to drive up the average to a new high water mark.

Here in Altoona PA matinees are 6.50 and evenings are 8.50. I wouldnt pay either for any!!

So that means if I treat a girl to the movies and dinner, i'm already going to spend close to $40 before we even have dinner since the tickets will add up to $20 and the stuff at the concession stand.

I agree with the Drive-Ins, I miss the one on Memphis Ave. in Brooklyn, Ohio...they should resurrect that place.

This news makes me so happy I don't work in a movie theater anymore - the complaints about prices were bad enough 6 years ago!!!!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:

Considering what it costs for a Movie, along with a Cup of Soda and a Box of Popcorn at the Theatre, I'll wait until Christmas to see any Movies playing right now. I can then watch the Movie on my Big-Screen TV, eat a Bag of Microwave Soda and wash it down with a Glass of Soda all for the same price. Afterwards there's a Bonus, I GET TO KEEP THE MOVIE! :p :D :lol:

I just wait for the movies to come to DVD and I check them out of the library. I can watch them in peace in my own room and it's absolutely FREE. :D

Yeah, it's ridiculous.

When I had time before classes I would go to a matinee since a theater was near my school, it cost about $6.00 four years ago.

We have a radio station in town that gives away movie passes each week and I often win them but only once per every 30 days. The only stipulation is that 2 weeks must pass from the date of release before they can be used. I always give them to my Brother, going to the movies really doesn't interest me.

I like the Matinee where I live it's only $6 in the evenings it's 9.50.

My library just recently started shelving Blu-ray movies/shows. :cool:

Rarely go to the theater to see Hollywood Mainstream(unless it's something I really really want to see, or my wife or daughter drag me there) however I will for the most part go see older films re released(most recent was Zombie '79), or current Indie films(Tucker & Dale VS Evil)

I'd rather use the money that I would have spent on a ticket to buy a movie I want, minus the line, annoying people, and super spendy snacks.

I haven't been to a library in a while, it's good that library cards do not expire.
